No you guys don't understand why an Okami sequel is such huge news. It's been 18 years since the original, the series director left for Platnum studios all but killing any chance at this game getting a sequel. Okami was HUGE when it came out it's art direction and unique game play were some of the best the wii had to offer. Now suddenly it rises from the dead with the original director back at the helm. This shouldn't have been able to happen, but here we are.

Also, if any chance he was to read my comments, I want to mention that these developers for Wukong wrote a speech two years prior to the awards show, and then after obviously losing to TGA, he stated that he came for no reason. Is that the sportsmanship and attitude that we want to see win a big award like GOTY? I personally don’t think it deserves any award at all. He comes off as selfish and entitled.

It’s one of the highest ever critically acclaimed games on metacritic with over a 100 international publications both large and small. That’s no small feat. Let’s be honest: they gave it Astro because they thought it was the game of the year, not because of some conspiracy you made up where all these different people, across the world, love Sony and want to protect them. Looking at reactions from those who have played it, most loved it and can see why it won. Mario Odessy had a good chance of winning when it was released but it came out in the same year as BOTW. I enjoyed Astro more than odessy and Mario Galaxy. Whatever game won, someone would be moaning and making excuses. Astro deserved as much as any of the nominations, if not more so.

Nothing really, but you could also argue that the other nominees were a DLC expansion, a sequel in a remake trilogy, a persona reskin and a Mario-like game that expands a pack-in title (Astro's Playroom).

The jrpgs had pacing and gameplay issues, the card game is built conceptually on rng. The dlc is a dlc and not as good as the base game was. The only game that exceeded expectations and overperformed was astro bot. Wu kong was the most hyped game in years. So was rebirth. So was elden ring. Metaphor failed to break atlus out of niche status. The card game unironically makes the best argument for being expertly made against astro bot out of any of them.

Wukong although has similar soul-like gameplay, it's based of a badass story. Look at it as God of war meets dark souls. So much content & replayability, a ton of enemy variety, bosses are very interesting & epic & challenging. The visuals r damn good. No woke/messaging bs. A straight up GAME. AstroBot I hvnt played it, but I can tell that's it's a good game but not GOTY. Imean heck, if it is GOTY, then why ddnt marioWonder win? Why ddnt ratchet&clank riftApart win? It didn't sell well. The games made by the original Clover team were amazing, arguably among the best of that gen but historically never sold well eg God Hand and Viewtiful Joe. And that continued when most of them went to Platinum and continued to make incredible games that didn't sell well like Wonderful 101, Astral Chain, even Bayonetta. They had to sell the rights to Nintendo just to make the sequels.

He might as well record their reviews from inside the car after leaving the theater like his friend Cinema Snob used to do. He can watch and talk about every episode of a Star Trek/Star Wars/Halo/LOTR/Marvel show and do almost weekly movie reviews but he can't play an 11 hour game like AstroBot? Or the best 3 hour narrative this year; Mouthwashing? And he claims to love Survival Horror but he skipped Conscript, Crow Country, Hollowbody and Fear the Spotlight this year? Balatro and UFO 50 are the best indie games this year, has he even booted them up? I dislike Alex's opinion on almost everything but at least he helps carry the weight with other reviews for smaller things. Theres too many games, we need more people talking about games to k ow whats worth our time and money. Why doesn't he try things outside his comfort zone like Metaphor, Lost Crown, I am Your Beast, Wayfinder, Infinite Wealth, Nine Sols, Soul Reaver 1&2, RetroRealms, Kunitsugami, Unicorn Overlord, SF6, Tekken 8, Monster Hunter, etc. He always plays the same things every year, it's so boring and repetitive and uncreative. Look at how many times Joe says "Never heard of it" or some variation on that during this event. There's a reason he doesn't post/talk about his Steam Wrapped breakdown of what he played over the whole year, because it would be mostly empty except streams/reviews. Idk if he even plays for fun anymore. Joe isn't doing anything special anymore or putting out better content than any other youtuber, despite his resources and sub count. I’m not saying black myth deserved it as I’m yet to play Astro bot, but a game like Wukong will always spark more controversy than a family friendly game. Elden ring got ripped apart by critics initially. Anyway point being is people really shouldn’t vote unless they have experienced both games in their entirety. It’s like voting for a political party when you only know the one. Wukong is far from perfect and needed a bit more time in the oven, but it is special at the same time. Also, people should focus less on controversies and more on diverse games, and that's exactly why Astro Bot winning is better for the industry. Controversies are created so you give them views, that's exactly why Black Myth winning would literally do nothing better for the industry as a whole, its another Soulslike that would win. Astro Bot is an indie-style 3d platformer, winning GOTY in the year that Concord and Suicide Squad failed, sending a very strong message to the corporations. I admit I didn't play Astro Bot, but the more I learned about it, the more it makes sense to win. I think one other game that could had competed was Metaphor, but the others I don't see winning. One is a DLC, one is technically a remake/remaster, and one is a certain type of game- which all three have in common is appealing to only a certain audience. Metaphor probably did the same thing too if you think about it. Soooo that leaves Astro Bot- a game that appeals to so manyyyyyy people. Appealing to a lot of people AND having that much praise? Gonna win for sure. I'm glad people are enjoying it too :D I don't personally have a PS5 rn lol

Astro Bot is a polished gem. Something that is extremely rare in gaming nowadays. Metaphor, FF7 Rebirth, and Wukong are (severely) compromised experiences on consoles and that is the version of the game that most peope will experience. Wukong is the worst of the bunch. It is borderline unplayable unless you play it on a PS5 Pro.
