Seems strange, growing up, everyone at school, even kids who didn’t hoop would yell “Kobeee” when shooting or throwing something in the trash. I think a lot of younger ppl are looking back his stats and weighing them by todays standards of efficiency. It’s sad to see. Also the media never really gave him his due credit.

RIP Kobe but come on guys. Basketball is a team sport, Kobe had Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, Fisher, a blossoming Andrew Bynum. LeBron had a couple of hand-me-down veterans way past their prime and a few guys he elevated to look like decent players. Those Laker teams won back-to-back titles, they had way more talent and way better team defense. It's amazing to see LeBron look as confounded as he does in these clips, it's a testament to how good Kobe's team was. But obviously, Kobe is amazing, it just helps to have a way better team, it makes everything easier. It lets Kobe expend more energy on defense among many other things.

For those who erroneously think Kobe didn’t pass the ball need to watch this clip among many others. As a shooting guard he averaged 5 plus assists over his career (check how low the career averages of other great shooting guards were) and the only reason he didn’t average more was because he made the plays needed at all times for his team to win. He had a ton of career double digit assist games when he needed to be a facilitator.
@duperfat5646 Жыл бұрын
Kobe passed the ball a lot more after they got Pau. But before that he was ball hogging for sure. Even most of these assists in this game happened after kobe was in the air about to take a jumper, then seeing hes being guarded tightly he dumps it out
@jdf319 Жыл бұрын
you have to know the whole story behind his passing/lack of passing , one game doesn't tell it all.... as a Kobe fan, I know that in this phase of his career as #24 with Gasol, odom, and Bynum, Kobe bought into the team strengthening thing and did a much better job balancing being the go to guy and 1st option on offense with being a facilitator and a team 1st player. BUT... he wasn't always like that, and he didn't always beleive in the teammates around him.... So as #8 when he felt like the team wasn't strong enough overall, and he didn't trust his team mates work ethics, he would put it all on his own shoulders and try to dominate the ball and score big points every night to win. when that was the case, his assists lowered in numbers, points went up, and he took more shots a game and played heavy minutes..... You just have to understand the different phases he went through as a player, the growth and maturity with age and experience, and the team situation he was in at each parts of his career.

You can make a video of any 2 famous players who went against each other more than 20 times and hand pick games or moments to make a guy look like he dominated. 90% of videos on you tube are Kobe fans hand picking. Literally trying to change history. LeBron isn't even my top player. I been watching Basketball since 70. No other fans are obsessed with this. Do you see Duncan fans trying to do this?If

People keep on forgetting Kobe is a 9-time 1st team all-defense, a record tied with Garnett, Jordan and Payton. Add those defensive accolades with his championships and scoring records. That's why he's better than LeBron in my opinion. If he wasn't plagued with injuries over the years, who knows how many more rings he could've gotten.

@amorodioamor43884 жыл бұрын
You do understand that after his first few years he played defense sparingly. When he was winning 1st team all defense later on Phil Jackson didn't get it. He said Kobe was a defensive liability. He would do a half hearted reach out as people passed by. He stated he was getting rewarded for his athleticism on the steals he got that resulted in slams. He pointed this out when Kobe had 12 blocks and made all D.
@aliciaencaderada13614 жыл бұрын
Kobe doesnt even rank in top 250 defensive ratings all time. He was winning awards through popularity. Like he made all star team in 2nd season when others were better or how he was on all star team his last 3 years that were really bad. Lots of guys like Lilard off team who deserved to be. When someone gets something that really wasn't deserved then someone who deserved it gets cheated. Kind of like admission scandal. When the rich pay to get in someone who deserved to gets bumped.

Look how upper management ruined the lakers and sabotaged him winning more titles. The man was beat tf up playing seasons on injuries at a elite level, and did not cry.Truthfully the only black eye they put on kobe was the bullshit rape charge, thats why the REAL kobe fans gotta argue for him on forums like this because the league was never gonna let him surpass jordan, or be the focal point of the league THEY SKIP OVER HIM IN EVERY CONVERSATION LIKE WE ALL DIDNT THIS WATCH THE MUTHAFCUKA DO THE IMPOSSIBLE NIGHT IN AND NIGHT OUT. David Stearn vetoed the Chris Paul trade.Why? That most likely would've been 6 Rings for kobe, Then they get rid of phil jackson ,cmon. HE WAS TOO GOOD. @onurbole79215 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call him out of his prime in 2008-2010. In fact I'd say it was his ultimate prime, when his maturity as a leader caught up with his body and basketball skills. He was still one of the best players in the league until he ruptured his achilles, and his last healthy season at the age of 34 was considered his best ever by many critics at that time. If a 30-32 year old guy is out of his prime, I'm sure there are many HOFs who had to wait until that age to get a better team and win a ring. It was only like 4 seasons that Kobe had bad teams after Shaq left. Yeah he could have had a couple rings more in those four seasons if he had better teams, but many players have to wait for over a decade to get a decent team, if they get any. And if he didn't have those trash teams between 2005-2008, we probably wouldn't have seen his historical games, the 81 point game, the 62 point 3 quarter vs the Mavs' 61 points, all those back to back 40+ pt games, those stretches when he made 50 points look easy, etc. That's because the Lakers were trash and Kobe literally had to win games playing 1 on 5. And it's only smart to ask for picks and screens when Kobe guards you, and let someone else waste energy on failing to guard him haha, especially if you are one of the best players in the league and you know he's coming at you with full vengeance. He's one of the best one on one players of all time. It's not LeBron's craft.

Kobe should have 4 MVP’s
@jakeabbatacola50925 жыл бұрын
Amor odio Amor So, you wouldn’t be considered someone who knows what you’re talking about. Any year from 2000-2011, he was MVP worthy. Obviously other guys were too. But during that decade, he was easily and definitively the best player. Dirk was great, Nash was great, Lebron was great for most of it, Chris Paul was very good, Duncan was near Kobe’s level, but let’s be real. You probably would give MVP’s to guys with the “best” stat lines, or on teams with best records, but the Most Valuable Player year in and year out for 10+ years was Kobe Bryant.
@isaiahmarquez97175 жыл бұрын
Amor odio Amor For many years Kobe was the TOP player in the league with a shit team. The fact that he only had 1 league MVP, as great as he was, is a travesty. The fact that Kobe was year in and year out 1st team defense while Harden plays NO defense yet also has 1 league MVP, is a travesty. And this business of the record factoring into MVP is garbage considering Kareem won a MVP without even making the playoffs. And Paul? He was never worthy of MVP. He couldn’t carry a team on his shoulders and he never has. Automatic disqualifier.
@jakeabbatacola50925 жыл бұрын
Amor odio Amor You’ve proven two things: 1) That you like to watch basketball and 2) you’ve proven the point I made- “You probably would give MVP’s to guys with the ‘best’ stat lines, or on teams with the best records...” After watching and studying the game for so many years, in the end, you go the Stat Leaders and Standings page on ESPN, read off the top names, and form your opinions from that? Just because some players rack up fantasy points more than others doesn’t mean they are better basketball players. The best player, the Most Valuable, isn’t always the guy at the top of those web pages. (Al Horford showed that a few years ago in the playoffs). And as far as team record goes, that logic is like expecting Kobe Bryant to turn Smush Parker into Scottie Pippen. That’s not how it works. If we took four guys, cloned them, made two separate teams, and I chose Kobe and you chose whoever you want as your fifth, my team would win more times than not (unless you’re taking MJ). Value is much more than stats- it’s who gives you the best chance to win. A lot of players were and are incredibly valuable, but Kobe was Most during his time.
@isaiahmarquez97175 жыл бұрын
Jake Abbatacola Agreed. The only reason the Lakers teams were even at or near .500 between the championship years was because of Kobe. He literally carried those teams on his back.

Amor odio Amor Let me give you an example. By PER, James Harden is a top 10 NBA player ALL TIME. Say that to yourself slowly. Now ask yourself, is he greater than Kobe, is he greater than Kawhi, Dr. J, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, etc, etc. That answer better be a hell nah! That’s PER in a nutshell.

LeBron has always been more of a team facilitator where Kobe is a score first player (like jordan). One on one is Kobe's game - its what he thrives at.
