@@lelouchvibritannia8997 True book wise, we don’t know what happened and honestly she could still show herself a good ruler. Though this video can kind of be seen as repairing what was damaged in the tv series, to me this is a true ending to the tv series and everything about it just connects perfectly. It honestly makes sense to me that Dany just wanted to go home and that her desire was warped because of Viserys and all the shit she endured.

@@belleville1805 Well, it adds to the sad irony of Tywin's all-consuming desire for legacy & position; in the books, Jaime's conversation with GhostMom when he's tripping, as a result of his injury, I think (it's been a hot minute since I read them) kind of feels like it would naturally be pulled in that direction - she says what Tywin's always wanted (since the days when their family was thought weak, under his father): For his house to be powerful & feared, for Jaime to be a great knight, & for Cersei to be queen- Jaime says all of that has happened, but Joanna just gives this heart-breaking smile; she knows that _despite_ getting what they wanted, they are essentially ruined, because of everything that's happened to achieve all of it - House Lannister *is* powerful & feared, *_but_* also hated & despised: despite Tywin's work to distance himself from Elia & the kids' deaths & blame it all on Lorch & the Mountain - despite distancing himself from the Red Wedding, letting the Freys & Boltons take the dubious 'honour' - no one's fooled: neither the individuals, nor the houses' lords would have taken those actions without his say-so. Jaime technically _is_ a great knight, but not only is he bound to the Kingsguard (like the Nights' Watch, no wife- no kids)- he *also* has the disgrace of kingslaying attached to him. Even his greatest act (saving Kingslanding) is tainted by what he had to do, in order to do it- & no one knows. Cersei's queen, but she's quite possibly the worst personality to have any kind of power; reckless & biased in the extreme- favouring a psychotic-in-the-making that she had next-to-no control over (in the books, he died pretty young- though he still did incalculable damage, & she still thinks him faultless- unlike ShowCersei, which kind of undermines her failings as a mother, imo - ShowJoffrey felt to me more like a projection of BookJoffrey; what he _might_ have become if he lived a bit longer)- & neglecting & then manipulating a sweet-natured boy, when _he_ came into power- to preserve her own authority for a bit longer. Gods alone knows how she managed to avoid tainting Tommen & Myrcella. Cersei's a jealous*, arrogant, power-hungry fool who's so greedy & reckless that she will treat subordinates like crap, & allies like threats (even family- see: Kevan Lannister)- she only wants people who will do what she says, rather than what is best- & endorse her point of view, being completely oblivious to the fact that she's alienating the few supporters she has left. If they question her, or fail her (regardless of whether an action was her idea or not)- then they're nothing to her, & she won't hesitate to throw them under the proverbial bus, to buy herself good will, or a bit more time - she's so short-sighted that she will take instant gratification/ a perceived immediate 'win', over a bit of hard work & compromise- despite the fact that she's opening herself up to much larger problems... Tyrion being Tywin's only legitimate child makes his treatment of him (& his ultimate fate at Tyrion's hands) all the more ironic. *I genuinely believe accidentally, or deliberately- BookCersei will be responsible for Myrcella's death (as part of her paranoia regarding the 'younger queen' part of the _valonqaar_ prophecy)

The only major thing I disagree with is Tyrion is a secret Targaryen, not because it cheapens how special Jon is, but because a) it makes zero sense timeline wise for Joanna to have been impregnated by a Targaryen. But more importantly it cheapens Tyrions story line. His father hates him, is disgusted by him, and the irony of it all is that Tyrion was the most like him, and if Tyrion wasn’t a dwarf he would have been a perfect heir to Tywin. Tyrion being a secret Targaryen vindicates his father in treating him like a monster because then he was right, then Tyrion really wasn’t his son. So personally I prefer making Jon a bit op in this case.
@ladylynx9657
@ladylynx9657 Жыл бұрын
Further, I think Tywin was disgusted by Tyrion even more BECAUSE he was the perfect heir - except for his being a dwarf. If had been bodily like Jamie I think Tywin would have praised his wife for her sacrifice in giving him the perfect son rather than blaming Tywin for her death.

I think its *much* more meaningful to have Dany allied with two dragons, all the power in her hands,--- and still choosing to walk away. THAT is acceptable. The Tyrion theory does not have a lot of water when you hold the timeline like you said. Its just a reason for Tywin to hate Tyrion, and to add spicy rumors to their family.
@jpdipity.
@jpdipity. Жыл бұрын
Actually the timeline for Tyrion to be Targaryen is spot-on. Joanna was at KL in 272 at a Tourney - Tyrion born 273 -we don't have months, but it could easily be 9 months apart. Further, something happened that made Tywin so angry that he tried to resign as Hand, but Aerys refused. I absolutely understand the statement that it cheapens Tyrion's story - I don't necessarily agree, but I get the sentiment. I think it just changes his story personally.

Even when I was expecting it and have known about it, the way you unfolded the events held so much tension and uncertainty. The same thing goes with "chaos is a ladder" and Varys' and Littlefinger's fate. It is so perfect. The "burn them all" reveal actually gave me chills man. It's so good and it's also really satisfying after the "hodor" future messing with the past thing that didn't go anywhere in the actual show. Also that detail of Sansa singing to Theon was everything I needed. Instead of the dumb "femininity is weakness so she has to go all badass" thing, she grows from doing things like singing in a childish, naive manner to using it and her gentleness to comfort someone in deep pain. That's the Sansa I wanted to see. Great job!

So good, I wish this is how the real series wrapped up. Cersei being killed by Jamie is what should've happened. Theon's quest for death gives him more to do. The dynamic between Jon and Danny seems more organic than it did in the show. I both love and hate the idea of Tyrion losing his tongue though. Littlefinger actually getting all the way to the tippy top of the game of thrones only to be hit with his own hubris would've been much more satisfying then whatever dumbshit they pulled with him in Winterfell. I also like the connections with the NightKing and Bram just not sitting around like a zombie himself.

GoT was my single favorite show that I cherished with my heart, and I was so sad and disappointed when it turned into shit in later seasons. I thought the harm could never be undone and I will have forever lost something that could have been a true masterpiece. You….you’ve changed that for me. The original scene where dany burnt down the city and became the mad queen was confusing, but you’ve made that same exact scene much more powerful and believable. You saved the character developments and made their relationship much more complex and interesting. You made all the dots connect to a plot that is consistent, surprising, and ingenious. You have revived and completed my favorite show that suffered a dishonorable death. Thank you so much for what you’ve done.

I agree with you, Dani was definetly going on the wrong side on several moment before season 6 and could be quite cruel and evil. And the plot was always reminding us that through "she's the daughter of the mad king blabla", but that's what I didn't like in the end of season 8. Her going "crazy" is too fast and weird. Like, I get that she burns armies to the ground bc she's always doing that as she sees them as oppressors, but I don't understand the burning of Kings landing part. She never burnt citizens before, and now she's burning an entire city? I don't know, it doesn't seem logical. But to me the worst part is her killed by her lover, too much of a Greek tragedy to me. I would have like an ending were she realizes she's actually going mad and a dragon is far too dangerous, and decides either to kill herself, either to go back on the other continent to never be seen again 🤔

@@godsfavhitman5814her 'just going mad' is an insult to her complex character. Good story telling is displaying a character's wants against their needs. That was one of the best things done in GOT when the writing was good. Every character was fighting for their wants whether it was for their honour or just doing the right thing which conflicted with their needs which kept them alive. For Danny, becoming the mad queen was neither a want or a need. It's a disappointment for the culmination of her character and the story as a whole. *Fantastic re-write. Summary of my favourite moments:* 1. Jon actually playing the game of thrones in the north, not for his own self-serving agenda but to try and bring Daenerys to the negotiation table and help him in their fight against The Others. Both in his guerrilla campaign against the Dothraki and also his decision to fight the trial by combat but execute the traitor in question as well to placate both sides. 2. Baelish technically winning the game of thrones by playing his enemies against each other but seeing it all crumble due to an incorruptible force of nature that he helped strengthen. 3. Daenerys considering the Night King's own motivations and lack of a home, and seeing that within herself, eventually realising that she could never find what she truly wanted in King's Landing and deciding to destroy The Others at any cost. 4. Jon pulling Lightbringer out from his half-dead corpse forged through Dragonfire in the middle of a battle against The Others and reviving the population of KL to help fight. 5. Jaime and Tyrion realising that their greatest strength was never what truly defined them. 6. Arya's "you're the only one left" was just really sad ;( The only things I was not a huge fan of were the "Aegonist" Northern faction seeming to be an ex machina plot device that are just perfectly organised and posed to strike whenever the plot demands it (in both Winterfell and KL), completely unrelenting in their demands to force Jon on the throne and getting rid of Daenerys even if he didn't desire that. I also thought Littlefinger orchestrating Daenerys' murder of Jon Snow was just a bit too easily pulled off. But the payoff for it was really well done. I do however think that these concerns could be rectified by developing them thoroughly over seasons 7 and 8 - which it seems would have to happen.

Extremist political factions and groups are a thing and can be awesome for tv but definitely fleshing it out would be necessary. Do they have rapport with little finger? Do they have their own dislike of Dany beyond the basics? Do they ever relent beyond being forced to? These are people too they need to falter or dig in.

You have given me a gift, and I really appreciate you for it. Despite the extremely poor last seasons, GOT remained my favorite fictional story, with hopes that GRRM will eventually right the wrongs but even that began to seem like a distant reality, then you just fix it in 2h15m. It's so beautiful I don't even care if GRRM completes it or not anymore. The depth you applied to the characters, the way you completed their arcs, the reveals, the thrill, wow Thank you❤

That's why there was a noticeable decline in the quality of the show after season 4. It just got surprisingly worse and worse each season after that. Which suggests that GRRM's behind the scenes work on the show (beyond writing the books) drove its success, which Dave and Dan took the credit for. Epilogue: Cut to interior, Horn Hill. We hear a woman calling out, “Little Sam! Go fetch Daddy for supper!” “Yes, Mama!” he calls back. Little Sam, now a strapping man grown, opens the door of an office. An old man is hunched over a desk strewn with papers, books, and scrolls. “Almost done, Dad?” The man sets down his quill and closes the thick volume he was writing. An elderly Samwell Tarly, played by George R. R. Martin, turns and smiles directly at the camera. “You never thought I’d get there. But it’s finally finished.”

That's the problem with A Song of Ice and Fire. It's probably why George R. R. Martin can't finish it. It's an anti-story story. You can't write a satisfying conclusion without betraying the idea of not having satisfying conclusions. I do believe it is why it's objectively weak story telling. Extremely entertaining drama but not a good story.

I would love a scene where they realize that many sayings were seemingly warnings for future generations. Theon realizing that "What is dead may never die,but rises again, harder and stronger" was referring to wrights instead of the iron born. Dany realizing "fire and blood" is what will be needed to win the war.

There are only 2 things I would do differently for this rewrite. I would swap the fates of Daario and Jorah, and I would swap the fates of Thoros and Beric. Let me explain For the first pair, practically speaking, Daario is much younger and a better fighter than Jorah, so it makes sense that Dany would send Daario out into the field with her men to hunt down Jon, and keep Jorah by her side. Also, Jorah being a highborn northerner himself, he would be a crucial advisor to Dany on how to deal with the northerners she is now trying to rule, so it would be more prudent for Jorah to stay by her side in Winterfell. If Jon kills Daario, you can still sow that initial distrust between Jon and Dany, AND you can still have the payoff of Jon killing Jorah with his father’s blade in the trial by combat. The only issue with this that I can see is that Dany might not be willing to let Jorah be her champion and might have Grey Worm or someone else do it instead. Maybe you could say that Jorah is eager to redeem himself to his late father in a way by clashing with Jon (Jeor’s other heir kinda) and Longclaw or something like that. Heir v heir. I just think that Jorah, being a more important character than Daario, is more deserving of the more dramatic death, and he would want nothing less than to go out defending his queen from those that tried to assassinate her. This way, the narrative beats and consequences from them can remain essentially the same, all while giving Jorah the better death for his character As for Thoros and Beric, it’s much more simple. Beric’s multiple resurrections have been built up as very important to the Lord of Light and his prophecy. Thoros should die in the battle at Winterfell and Beric should be the one to sacrifice his final life to attract the horde of wights over to Jon’s body and burn in the resulting dragon fire, finally serving the purpose the Lord of Light kept resurrecting him for. Beric literally loses his final life in the very fire that births Azor Ahai. Without Beric’s multiple resurrections, he wouldn’t be in the exact spot he needs to be in order to bring Azor Ahai to life. Can’t really get much more of a divine purpose than that lol Other than that I don’t think I would change anything. This rewrite was probably the best one I’ve seen. The characters and their arcs were kept intact, there were great twists, the ending was extremely satisfying, and I don’t think there were any major stretches to make something work. Despite the ending being on the happier side, it still felt very much like Game of Thrones. Great job Unique👏

@@Edo9River Beric will follow whatever purpose his Lord has in store for him; Beric lives for the Lord of Light. In season 3, Beric himself said that the Lord of Light was keeping him alive for a reason. Nobody knew what that reason was exactly, but there must be some reason that the Lord of Light keeps reviving him. That setup goes nowhere if Beric just dies at Winterfell; he’d end up having been revived six times for no reason

Defo agree with Thoros and Beric, I can see the scene in my mind with it's mysticism and splendour. Would be lovely to have tied into the book too (no spoilers) after how much deviation the red priests had to go through. I love the idea of keeping Jorah around longer. It is an emotional weight because Danny actually is interested with Daario. Daario is also one of her only blades that is flawlessly faithful. Jorah earns the right to defend her honour and you get a great duel between heirs. However, it never solves the conflict like it might with Daario. Jorah represents the breaking and re-forging of trust and vows. Jon killing Jorah is the perfect reflection of the Jorah betraying Danny, and also her eventually forgiving him. It's well within their characters to do so, but the emotions are also explosive.

One problem is that Dany's "home" was never Westeros in her eyes. When she tells Viserys she wants to go home, she's referring to their apartments in Illyrio's palace. But the only real home she has ever known is the house with the red door. She has never seen Westeros, so her seeing that as her home doesn't make sense

I don't think Tyrion needs to be a Targaeryn for that to work. Viserys remembers him from back in Meereen, when both of the dragons were freed by Tyrion from imprisonment under the temple. Viserys deciding -- completely on his own -- to stop Dany would bring back what Tyrion said at that time: dragons are much smarter than they look. The vanilla show brought this back with Drogon burning the throne, your rewrite should bring it back in a way that actually serves the plot.
