Dot started as a lyrical street rapper too but the pivot/rebrand is what made him a household name, same as Lupe. Kendrick has credited Lupe in several songs as well. That type of artist who could start street, go conscious and really rap while also making charting hit songs didn’t exist until Lu. He was the prototype.
