The Game that Tried to Save a Franchise and Ended up Burying it

Crysis was definitely an insanely good game. However, for some reason the sequels that game got were really not all that great, and in this video, I'm going to go a little in depth on what went wrong and why. Hope ya'll enjoy.

I love all the Cryisis games but while you're right about the next two game deviating heavily with the Crysis identity, Crysis 2 did still have a great story imo. Also Crysis 3 had an incredible stealth system that was actually challenging unlike previous games where playing stealthy was so easy it was game breaking.

Personally i find c2 to be the better game than c1 and 3 and i dissagree on your story point for c1 1 is a cut down ver of what was promised The 3rd act was cut as well as some of the 2nd act was to And it simply showed in the second half At that point the devs where burnt on making jungle shooters and with warhead underpreforming they wanted to go the clean slate route thats why they went in a new direction with 2.

Crysis 2 & 3 were limited by old gen consoles (ps3/xbox). If they made it PC only like the first one it would have probably been totally different.

The series definitely started going wrong with #2! Not only was it dumbed down in order for it to work on those gaming consoles, the story drastically changed and wasn't a real sequel to #1! It was really an INTRODUCTION of Crysis to the console gamers while ignoring those of us that started with the original PC/Windows version! Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to change the protagonist from "Nomad" to "Alcatraz" while calling it "Crysis 2"... and thought that players of #1 wouldn't notice this?! And don't forget that the FIRST Crysis was eventually converted to the Xbox 360 and PS3 AFTER #2 was released! *facepalm*

Crysis Warhead was my favorite. Even though it was just an expansion of the first game, it was much more action packed.

Grreat video mate! I totally agree with you! Crysis 2 had a great story, epic cutsenes, but the gameplay.. meh.. When I played it I wanted it to end faster just to see how it's going to end.. When I played Crysis 1 I didn't want this game to end.. I replayed it countless times, because it was fun to play.

Idk. Always thought the first game was fun but it was mostly a tech demo. The levels were non linear but not exactly designed well. They just said "here's a sandbox. Get from point A to point B". Second game was more fleshed out and has aged much better than crysis 1

Honestly I disagree. Crysis 2 and 3 were limited by last gen consoles and that's why they ended up being a little underwhelming to Crysis 1 fans but that doesn't mean 2 and 3 are bad. I will die on this hill and say that both of the sequels were great games. In fact they were downright incredible. I have a bias towards them because they introduced me to KZbin let's plays and started my interest in the internet overall. Crysis 3 in particular had a great story, a story about sacrifice as well as Psycho's relationship with Prophet. It was about the Nanosuit and how it changed Prophet (Alcatraz). And to answer your question: Crysis 2 is about a soldier given the power of the Nanosuit by Prophet to save New York from an alien invasion. Simple but interesting. And Crysis 3 is about Prophet's quest to kill the Alpha ceph and free everyone from Cell's control. About the suit modes: I actually agree with you on that part. In my opinion they should make a new system that combines all the good things about the Nanosuit from all 3 games. For now though I wouldn't say the franchise is buried. Crysis 3 has an incredibly fun and still active multiplayer. So all I hope for is that the 4th game stays true to the franchise

I disagree with your mundane assessment of the games. The suit, and the overall gameplay is unique. I've never found games I like better. The story doesn't matter, gameplay matters.

been playing all the crysis games recently (apart from warhead) and gotta say 2 is my favourite, yes its more compact and has a meh story compared to 1 but i the gameplay is so much better imo, 1 is still great, i just prefer 2 more, 3 is just as you said a disaster of sorts, it basically shotgun marries both games into one that doesnt work, trying to over extend the CQB of 2 into the games of 3, and my god 3 is so short, it feels like theres missing missions that should be in it hoping 4 will be good, surprised they're making another crysis instead of a brand new ip, but hopefully with more powerful consoles the platform gap between the consoles and pc is non existent for crytek to make a crysis that has the scope of the first game with the blockbuster action of the 2nd game, and since they're self publishing it they have full creative control over it, gotta see what happens

The way I see it people didn't care about the story in crysis they care about gameplay sadly When crysis 2 came out people were pissed bc it was linear and the distruction wasn't on same level as crysis 1. crysis 3 was a bit mixed but after crysis 2 the damage was already done and people didn't come back anyway That is the ugly truth Me personally I love all of them and I will buy crysis 4

There has been no game since it that made me think - I really need to buy a new video card so I can fully enjoy this game. If AMD or nVidia wanted to get people to buy their cards, they would buy the rights to this game - make it fantastic and crank the hell out of the graphics and optimize the crap out of it for their cards.

I disagree with you on your analysis of crysis 2, it’s such a well done game… did you just watch bunch of videos and decided on crysis 2 or have you played it yourself ? The way the character builds and how nano suit evolves in crysis 2 is vey well done… so the aliens infest earth with some virus, the nano suit evolves to fight the infection… the character not being Prophet steadily evolves.. he was finally able to fight back the infection and he also was able to destroy the alien’s with the help of his nano suit…, it’s a good enough narrative

I have to disagree. Gameplay wise crysis 1 was trash Im replaying the series and crysis 1 was absolutely the most frustrating gameplay wise. The second half was incredibly lame too. Final boss sucked, aliens suck. To be fair, the ending of crysis2 was a joke lol but at least is was more interesting to play

crytek didn't actually promise anything. crytek stated Crysis3 would go back to it's roots (Crysis1). Crysis2 & 3 didn't live up to the hype. all Crysis games were cut down if anyone can remember how it would on youtube videos vs on your computer. to me all games are the same and are a complete waste of money.
