Crysis 3 is a first-person shooter video game developed by German video game developer Crytek and published by Electronic Arts for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. It was released in North America on 19 February 2013. Officially announced 16 April 2012, it is the third main installment of the Crysis series, a sequel to the 2011 video game Crysis 2, and runs on the CryEngine 3 game engine.
Crysis 3 's gameplay revolves around Prophet, a Nanosuit holder who is on a quest to take revenge on the CELL Corporation, and the Alpha Ceph, the leader of the Ceph alien race. He is accompanied by Psycho, the protagonist of Crysis Warhead. The story of the game serves as the end of the Crysis trilogy. Gameplay revolves around the use of the Nanosuit, which grants players a variety of abilities such as being invisible. New features introduced in Crysis 3 includes a new compound bow and the "hacking" feature, which allows players to hack into enemies' equipment and weapons. New additions to the game includes Rip & Throw, a new Nanosuit ability, and an asymmetrical multiplayer game mode called "The Hunter".
The game is set in a post-apocalyptic New York City, in an effort to combine the urban landscape of Crysis 2 and the forest setting of the original Crysis. The game introduces the "Seven Wonders", with each wonders having their own unique landscape. Due to complaints about Crysis 2 's linearity, the game's level were opened up so as to grant players more freedom. The game's development time was shorter than that of Crysis 2, as some resources were being allocated to the development of Crytek's other projects.
Crysis 3 was met with positive reception and has won multiple awards prior to its release. Praise was directed at the game's level design, visuals and multiplayer, while receiving criticisms regarding the game's story and narrative. Crysis 3 was a commercial failure for Electronic Arts, as the game failed to meet the company's sales expectation.

I think the trilogy stands as a pretty solid set of shooters that aren't really as common anymore.Being honest I think the open world nature of Crysis is a bit overrated, and shitting on the linearity of Crysis 2 and 3 are sometimes a bit of unwarranted elitism, and people don't really give Crytek enough credit for putting effort into a well crafted single player campaign. Or maybe it's just me, and preffer a well crafted linear experience, rather than an aimless open world one.

"I think the open world nature of Crysis is a bit overrated" Oh I agree. The 2nd half of it and 2nd half of Warhead became very boring Space Invaders play, which I only completed once. The first half of both though are classic. I replay both annually and always take a different approach with a different objective-eg instead of playing on Hard, play Easy but never use suit powers. I quit as soon as the squids show up, just too uninteresting.

It isn't just the 'openworldness' that was lost in the sequels - I felt like the story really took a different direction too. Look at Warhead (granted it was an alternate perspective from the first game), it did have to create some unique story narratives - which were all amazing. Remember the Frozen ocean tide? It just was a larger narrative scope...

I think Crysis 2 had a perfect balance of having open and linear areas. C3 feels like the most basic fps out of the 3 and they took put the cover system of 2.

I'd recommend taking a look at Crysis Warhead (basically Crysis 1.5). Feels a lot like the first game in it's game play and openness, but it also feels a little more focused. The character development is more interesting too (you play as Psycho).

Something interesting that I've always wanted to know more about is how you approach difficulty. You seem to exclusively play games (at least shooters) on the harder difficulty modes. I find more often (even in Crysis 3 that I played sorta recently) that higher difficulty modes doesn't make a more compelling game. I always think of Call of Duty World At War on highest difficulty whenever I picture higher difficulty modes. I'd love to see you do a video on your approach. Why you play higher difficulty modes, what you like and don't like about them. And some games that do higher difficulty well.

I don't know I personally have enjoyed the Crysis series as a whole and think that the third entry is by far the best one. I myself loved the stealth elements of both of the newer games and forced myself to get trough sections of the game flawlessly without anyone spotting or being alerted to my position. And it was a lot of fun IMO especially with the Bow in the third entry. The first one was though OK at best and as you said the AI was so god awful that stealthily going trough the game wasn't a viable option as once you got spotted every one and their grandma knew exactly where you were so I basically just run and gunned trough that one. But back to the third game, I also immensely enjoyed the story and it really had an emotional effect on me by the end of it all. And the visuals.. Well lets just say you don't know what realistic graphics mean until you've played Crysis 3 Maxed out in 1440p 60fps :D

The graphics in this game are great but like a lot of modern AAA games there's this kind of sheen covering everything which makes it hard to see enemies so sometimes you can only tell where they are after they've already shot you. Battlefield 4 and Medal of Honor: Warfighter (it's shit don't play it) have this too and combined with other effects like lens flare and motion blur it can get pretty fucking annoying especially during night time missions.

+Kit Emett How the fuck did you jump to that conclusion? He said it's sometimes hard to spot enemies because of the visual effects which sometimes can make the enemies and environments seem to blend together. All those visual effects are enabled on higher settings btw so your accusation goes out the window.

@matman000000 8 жыл бұрын
+Serpico's Beard Devs in recent years started just filling the screen with particle effects to make it look good. It can look great if it's done well, but sometimes it's just too much and it gets distracting. I have this problem with Batman Arkham Knight, where the whole game takes place in a rainstorm and it can be pretty annoying when flying through the city. But once you get inside and focus on the details, the game stops looking at impressive and you learn that models, animations and textures look only slightly better than in the previous games, and with low texture settings, it looks even far worse.

I have played maybe Crysis 1 over 10 times and completed it every time. Most since I downloaded that A.I mod who makes the A.I actually smart and challenging to play against. Crysis 2 I just found too linear, boring and dumbed down. It just didn't feel like Crysis. Are Crysis 3 more like Crysis 1? Edit: After seing your entire review I found out it is not for me. Its quite funny that I just finished the crysis trilogy a day before you started uploading these reviews. What I expected from these games was about pure visual spectacle and servicable gameplay and thats pretty much what I got. I played the games on the highest difficulty intuitively because I played a lot of games on their hardest and wanted to start with a high curve for once, not because I was told the games were easy. Out of the bunch I think crysis 3 is the best on its own because it takes the polish of crysis 2 in a more open enviroment in comparison.

I think your review is on point, but to defend the developer (and the industry) something has to be sacrificed for those graphics. A lot of people love amazing graphics but hate the shallow gameplay that comes with it. And I think it's a give and take situation. Games like Crysis have to be mass appeal to be able to fund the small army of artists and engineers making the game look as good as it does. Therefore such techniques get explored and become easier in the future. So that when the tech becomes affordable, smaller teams can make great games that look good to boot. Remember in the early 2000's and the best looking games at the time? The best looking games that spent loads of money and had huge teams. But now you can get that same level of fidelty on a budget. That's how I view these big budget spectacles. They pave the way for better looking games, and they are mass appeal to stay afloat. Because of that the tech becomes easier and cheaper and better games can look better in the future. I don't bemoan AAA games at all. They look great and feel great to play even if they're not the deepest gameplay experiences. But I know they contribute to the future of our medium. Crysis was a powerhouse, an expensive powerhouse. But now indie developers can get a hold of the Cryengine on a budget.

+GilgameshAurora If you can't understand the benefit of the creators of a game engine to use it and improve and work the kinks out of it then you don't know much. Since you don't care about visuals, there are plenty of games out there for you to play. Don't think that every game has to cater to your specific standards. And spend time looking for games you want to play and ignoring the rest instead of trying to force everyone to see things your way. Crytech using their engine helped them make the engine better. Helped them develop their tools because they had to. And to +Superhns, I never said using an engine automatically makes a great game. I said it helps smaller developers make better games than they would without. We wouldn't be having this indie renaissance without the ease of access to engines like Unreal, Cryengine and Unity.
@Ularg7070
@Ularg7070 8 жыл бұрын
+GilgameshAurora You contradicted yourself. "easy to access,..." "only useful if they are used properly." That's what they are built for, to be easy to use properly. The reason there's so much shit on the store is because Unity is super simple to get any shit running but it's a workhorse. It only works as well as the effort you put into it. Since shitty devs like Digital Homicide don't put work in, they don't get quality out. Unity is a lot like the lithtech. It's easy to learn, hard to master. Cryengine, Unreal and the like come prepackage with tons of effects that can turn on with a checkbox that make a game look more polished than it is. Seeya.

Hehe! A great idea indeed. I think going in line with your channel's theme - action - you could review films that have good action, sci-fi or crime dramas. But if you really don;t have the time to take up another type of reviews i can totally understand. Rather than dilute your video game content to do films, better just stick to what you do best. Would be cool if you could review some iconic action movies though. GG!

GFUNKMW It's a comic book "inspired" shooter where you play as a cybernetically (?) enhanced superhero completing quests and saving citizens, sort of like Strife, except closer to Deus Ex mixed with Batman. Oh, and it was designed by D. W. Bradley and produced by Warren Spector.

GFUNKMW It's a lot of fun, but it's unfortunately unavailable outside of abandonware sites. Which is a shame, because you can really see the early ideas for Deus Ex starting to form, from the location based damage to the multiple solutions to problems. I just hope it gets recognition eventually.

I was kinda glad Crysis 3 was a bit on the shorter side. Like Gggmanlives said, it felt like a Crysis 2.5 (or even just an expansion) I still liked the first game the most though

crisis 3 was basically the game to end the story line but was mostly made for the multiplayer aspects, but over all it is 1 of the best games ever made even tho the hardest difficulty is the only difficulty to play it on, the 1st crisis is the best for the campaign tho

This game was free on xboxlive a lil while ago so I picked up and it was good till that vehicle section in the big dome thing. that part was so annoying that I never finished it. I wouldn't really recommend it at full price but a 10-15$ range is worth it.

I really do think that if you're going to play one crysis game, it really should be the first. Not because it's the best, but because it's definitely the most unique. It's just kind of an old school shooter with big open areas to kill people. Basically a spiritual successor to the original Far Cry with super powers, instantly one upping the mutant powers you had in Far Cry Instincts. No upgrade systems or unlocking stuff and it still looks decent when it's contemporaries often aged pretty poorly. These days it's pretty easy to run and it's super cheap. It's the only one that despite sometimes getting pretty difficult, you feel extremely powerful the whole time. I especially loved using speed to zoom around and line up headshots or melee people. Playing stealth was fun too, but that speed power man. They never had anything like it afterwards.

My favorite of the series is still the 1st one. Released in 2007, made with high-end PC's in mind, it was a tech masterpiece that visually surpasses most games to this day. The gameplay also blew me away with how it shifted from typical tac shooter into a survival horror inside the alien ship, and then into full-on warzone in the last segment. Crysis 2 and 3... I didn't liked those. The multiplatform was visible (aka the game was gimped due to this), and everything seemed to be made in hollywood blockbuster action movie style, which I hate by this time.

TBH To Really Enjoy Crysis You Need To Play All 4 Games ..... Crysis 1 , Crysis Warhead , Crysis 2 & Crysis 3 ......... I Actually Loved The Predator Bow And Would Play The Whole Game With Just That And Pistol However The Amount Of Arrow Caches In The Game Can Make It A Rather Difficult Task To Do ...

Crysis 3 does a lot of things right. The combat feels really great and the graphics are jaw dropping. I enjoyed the level design and overall this was one of the best single player fps'es I've played in a long time. The sound effects are also top notch, and there is a real sense of scale to the maps.
