This post is a total gift! I had no idea that the percussion part alone was so well written. This entire show is so unforgettable in the best possible sense. Iconic!

I didn't realize how much of the opener was vocoder on the drums and not just synth. absolutely killer.

This drumline is just so good at tasty dynamics. And they have yet another amazing book from Tom! Great job Bluecoats!

I always love hearing Tom's percussion writing for this medium: the complexity, the subtle nuances, the motivic details. It's grown so much since 2009 and is actively pushing the expectations for this activity further, especially in the front ensemble. Same with the sound design team, the use of electronics (from sounds, to writing, to speaker placement) has grown SO much since I marched in 2011-12. Kudos to many, many great books over the years Tom; phenomenal job to the sound design and production team; and great performance as always Bloo Bangers!

Maybe its just me being a synth player but the balance between electronics and acoustic pit and drumline is so good in this!

When is the whole hippie era gonna end? Starting to feel like broken city.. same show different color palette..

Not only are the themes of their last two shows wildly unique from one another but that's honestly how drum corps has always been. You can easily organise every major corps' past shows into 5ish year groups in which each have a relatively common theme from a writing and design perspective. Although to be fair Blue Devils has hardly changed at all so there is that.

Also this and Riffs had nothing to do with hippies. The poem used in this show is written as an allegory for how structured religion ruined religious belief and repressed natural desires in romance, especially in the context of homosexuality.

Truly ridiculous that they felt the need to keep the met on for a recorded run of the show. Completely takes away from the performance.
@AdamInouye Жыл бұрын
I disagree, playing so well with a quarter-time met for the whole show at that level is pretty impressive to me! Cudos bangers!

So true. The next time the New York Philharmonic records a piece, they should do it on one leg because it’s harder or something.

This isn’t about the quality of the recording. This is more about rehearsing and getting more practice with *perfect time.*

2023 was quite simply the low point in DCI. ALL top 12 shows were simply, disgustingly AWFUL. This crap right here is just random noise that any middle schooler, given this much practice, could perform. This sounds like garbage. DCI must do better in 2024, or their fan base will continue to dwindle. These shows are so in your face ludicrous it’s hard to describe. They all looked like they were designed by staffs comprises of people with ADHD and hopped up on Adderall.
