I think I'm desensitized because I've been watching Joel for quite a few years now, but I'm just now realizing how insane he must seem to new people. He's already got a good chunk of a town started on only episode 5, all of the buildings having a crazy amount of detail, him being rather rambunctious and kind of crazy around other people with a weird and fun personality, and him blowing up someone's entire base with like 70 TNT to kill him and immediately apologizing and rebuilding it. Like, he's crazy, and I love him for it Edit: I love seeing all of the people who are new here or catching up on old series- welcome welcome! It's wonderful having you here! And for those of you saying this is normal Hermitcraft behavior- please know I've never watched Hermitcraft or any of these other peoples' videos! I just know Joel! I'm not trying to compare anyone, simply shine light on how hyper our Bean Boy is!

Hey Joel! I gave this suggestion to Impulse so I'm here for you too: Wax your signs! Unwaxed signs contribute to a significant amount of lag, so waxing them with honeycomb will help a ton! Ask Tango for some honeycomb; I'm sure he'll be fine with sharing some. I took 2 years of Japanese in Highschool, and it's a complicated language. Google does a pretty decent job for simple translation but don't rely on it for sentences; they're not always the most accurate.

I can’t speak for people who actively practice Shinto Faith, I did do research to design a Shinto shrine for a project once though. And the research from doing that project, I learned that shrines and Tori Gates, in general, were markers of where spirits resided, so while Tori gates are yes used for marking where shrines are. It’s also because it’s marking where spirits reside. The scale of a tori is also traditionally, much smaller than what you’ve built here. However, it also makes me think that this shrine is for spirits and for people who are really big and need a doorway to accommodate that space :-) For those who have read this far, the large amount of information I learned came from the scholar Stuart DB Pickens !

Sometimes smaller, but their are some quite large Tori gates. Although I will admit larger Tori gates are COMMONLY (but not always) built in or near water. While their is almost certainly a spiritual reason for this, its also practical, as a larger tori gate resists floodwaters and stormsurges more.

Hi Joel, as someone who is Japanese and follows Shinto Buddhism, thank you for incorporating it into your build. All of the Japanese were technically correct, but axolotl in Japan is usuallyウーパールーパー (uupaa ruupaa), which would be funny if you referred your axolotls as your workers/ your Oompa Loompas. The translation you used is also correct, but has a slightly less positive meaning since アホ (aho) means stupid with a negative context. Both fit your humor so go at it 👍
@MissmoriАй бұрын
i mean the stupid things keep getting killed off by drowned so..... (jk)

9:45 That IS a close translation for Axolotls in Japanese, but if you want to go full Japanese, I recommend "ウーパールーパー” (Wū-pā-rū-pā) which is how we say Axolotl in Japanese as well. (If you want to directly translate the sound "Axolotl" in Japanese though, I think アクソロトル (A-ku-so-ro-to-ru) is much closer.)

You can put tiny shrines throughout the area, tucked into gaps and walls even. I've seen these gates being placed in educational gardens in my city here in the U. S. The gardens are designed by Japanese people, so I don't think they can be considered insensitive or cultural appropriation. I'm not sure if it's the same if a non-Japanese person does it... You could probably sneak a temple or larger shrine into the mountainside along the stairway. There are plenty of spirits that you can choose from, or make up a Minecraft spirit. I know that white foxes are in the game, but you can use rare mobs too. Maybe a firefly shrine or a mob that didn't make it in a mob vote. A protective spirit of the mountain would be in a city like this, maybe the Glare? Even the Rascal.

abt the "manic" comment from a previous vid. When I started watching Joel he wasn't as hyped, I feel like he wouldn't be confident enough to pull off some of these cocky jokes. I watch a lot of mc youtubers and a few years back I realised Joel is like my fav one, I've watched him for so long at that point idk how or when it became so. Like rn I can clearly see that the editing and video production is sooo much better and he is literally so funny every time. he's very wholesome and nice too. Like I lowkey get if a new time viewer is wary abt how serious Joel is being but I am not kidding when I saw he is super nice to everyone he plays with, the bits are like impossible to be taken seriously by his friends (as mentioned by the commenter, Jimmy). Jimmy is bullied by everyone, and if you come from Grian, you would know that those bits with Jimmy are literally just in good fun because he does it too. On smps, you can see that Joel still cares abt people's feelings even when doing a bit, he is so likeable and that helps him pull off the cocky jokes, because he never takes it too far and it's just so good

The cyber city is looking amazing, suggestion for a new building block pallet: Purpur with netherbrick (which has walls and fences btw), white glass and pearlescent froglights. The purpur pink is a nice pop of color with the dark netherbrick contrast.

Impulse seems to be developing a Thing for fade-in / semi-shared bases as of the Soup Group saga. Love it!

Iskall being in his umhighed phase. And Joel is just his normal self, but since i read the reddit post i see how people think he is a bit intense. But i like it! Im glad you are part of the Hermit crew Joel!

The new buildings fit the town so well, contributes a lot to the whole build and makes it feel all the more like a cramped cyberpunk city.

Those buildings together makes me remember of Brazilian favelas, the way they are so close to each other and have these small access to one another, it’s really like the favelas, as a Brazilian it’s really cool to see this even if it was not made on purpose

I would have written Axolotl as アクソロトル (akusorotoru) instead because its the most common way, but アホトロル could work as well, but not as common. 入り口 works! The Gate... Damn, I want to go abroad already. I am going to Kyoto in September and staying there for a year as my exchange studies!

Joel is the best addition to Hermitcraft since Grian in season six. His chaotic energy is a vibe.

Joel you are so right, the “so cool” on the turf collecting timelaps did indeed both remind and inspire me to hit the like button

I genuinely think this is one of my favourite bases ever. I've like your previous builds, but this base feels truly next level and I'm really excited to see what it becomes

Joel’s base is probably my favorite base this season so far. It’s so cool!

i LOVE how crowded yet traversable your city is!! you could wander and explore it for eons while appreciating the details and beauty! also, your material gathering montages are getting wilder and wackier, and it is hilarious yoel 👍

Bro, Joel has TOTALLY desensitized me😂😂 I used to be afraid of loud noises, can you imagine watching Joel with that kind of fear😅 But he and Lizzie were like my second parents, im used to it by now,

I think it will be interesting to see how you link next to Impulse. With your base being Neo-Japanese Cyberpunk mixed with traditional and Imp (With BDubs) doing more usual Cyberpunk, it'll be interesting to see your base act almost as the "Japanese district" to a grander city with it combined with Impulse. Just thinking of the LORE, but this might be the wrong server for that-

The town in XLife was my FAVORITE with all the little details, and this so far is blowing that out of the water! I can't wait to see how it goes and how it meshes with the other hermit's builds on the mountain, I'm so glad you guys have gone this route as its so so cool also---the build-oriented timelapse for the axolotl tank reminded me a lot of the timelapse voiceovers for xlife, really enjoy hearing the building process summarized as it transpires

9:34 the signs say “アホロトル“ (if i read it right), which romanized is “ahorotoru”. I havent quite finished the clip, but im guessing it meant to say “アクソロトル” (akusorotoru/axolotl) the one written down basically just says aholotl

It might be cool to do an underground black market where you go through the strip mine entrance. Would let you use some of the caves in the mountain in an interesting way
