The GE/Mckinsey matrix helps measure and map the strategic positions of the firm. It helps you see which businesses are making money and which ones are not. It helps you decide if you should be in this industry or not. It helps you decide whether or not you want to grow your existing business. It also helps you to decide if you just want to get rid of the business.

The breakdown of the GE/McKinsey matrix is helpful in many ways. First, the general explanation of its purposes is helpful for both business students and operating firms. Second, the in depth explanation of each segment of the matrix helps to show where you may potentially want your firm to fall under or to move into / out of. - RBH
