I am always blown away by the science -hydrodynamics I guess, and how those little wings can develop so much lift that it can pick up your bodyweight and the weight of all the gear and push it up off the water. Amazing.

Well first off, you need money. Abackground in surfing definitely helps the learning curve. And a basic understanding of wind/sailing. If can, snag a board with a blue planet box that can take a tuttle mast or plate mount. AND fin boxes so you could sup/prone/wing/etc. With one board, you could nearly cover every discipline of surfing. Great videos as always damien! Pushed me to get into sup foil/winging

How big is your board? Volume... I would think you should have volume around 150L and wide so you have stability! I am guessing your board does not have a ton of volume? 270lbs I love it buddy good for you! Practice getting up on your board over and over on land first with the wing in hand will help you as you move to the water.

Hi Damien, Thanks for the great videos. I have two questions. 1. What could be a reason for a Board with less volume? I mean, when I am up on the foil, the volume of the board doesn't matter at all, right? 2. What is your opinion on inflatable boards? Pros and Cons? Thanks! Greetings from Germany!
@DamienLeroyYouTube2 жыл бұрын
Great questions! 1. I would say a smaller less value board is just nimble and fun when you get better that's it. You are right as when up, it does not really matter, but best way to explain it is a long board and short board surfing. Long board just does not turn as well as a short board but easy to catch waves on the long board! Same concept. 2. More personal choice. Inflatable work but more performance always in a Fiberglass/carbon board. Have a great day!

Can you get by with an 80L board at 160 pounds? Wanting to get started and looking at the 5'5" Armstrong Wing/SUP model. I would prefer not to buy a $2000 board and then out grow it in a few months and have to buy another expensive board. I'd love to see more info on the 7m x2 wing, is it just for big guys or can a regular sized (165 lbs) guy managed a wing that big? Basically what's the biggest size that's still manageable for the best LW experience? The 6m is the safer bet but I'm sure there is a lot more power in the 7m, it just might be too big to handle.
@DamienLeroyYouTube3 жыл бұрын
Friend! We have a X2 review video dropping very soon with Jon Modica. Stay tuned but to answer your question the 7m X2 is a great wing and yes it has tons of power. Can a 165 pound guy use it! yep I weight 155 and I can ride that thing in nothing and it really does not feel like a huge wing compared to other wings of that size. You can get away with a 6m for sure but if you want a little more get up and go in the light winds it helps! Keep in mind the 6m will pull almost like a 7m of other companies out there. I know that's a lot of info but you really will not go wrong either way!

Great info, thanks for the links! I'm 61, with limited knee & hip flexibility to match. So I'm concerned about the beginner trials of getting on foil from a standstill. I do have a 5'6" lift eFoil though, and was hoping to use it with a folding prop to cheat into winging mode until I build up experience. Would the 63 lb eFoil be too much for the wing if I'm up on foil with less drag?
@DamienLeroyYouTube3 жыл бұрын
Now that is a great questions.... I honestly think you will be better getting yourself a wing board over the 5'6 efoil. Something like this.....adventuresportsusa.com/collec... Get yourself a board with a lot of volume and wide so it's easy for you to stand up on then it will help you with your limited knee & hip flexibility. Volume will help a ton, the 5'6 might be a little hard... You could go with a LIFT SUP and you can use all your efoil wings on your foil board as everything is modular. Just a thought! liftfoils.com/product/710-foil-sup/ The good news is the efoil is the best way to learn how to foil. So you are ahead of the game to learn wingsurfing!
@@DamienLeroyKZbin Thx, I'll hold off on the folding prop & use that cash for a board then. I have an 8 ft, 150 L SUP foil board I can start with and work into something smaller later. Appreciate the input!

My wife (135#) and I(165#) are psyched to start winging. Your videos have been very helpful. We are both competent windsurfers and wanted to try kiting but think winging is the best next step for us. Are there sources of used gear? We are in the Boston area. I am thinking of buying a duotone 5M wing to use with a SUP or large windsurf board to get dtarted. Then renting a foiling board or two to try out. Maybe it is my windsurfing experience but the boom style wing from duotone seems like the most flexible for us to start with. What are your thoughts on this plan?
