Great advice about the gloves and operation of the hand controls. The clutch release does feel different with thick gloves.

As much as I appreciate the existence of the electronically heated liners, when or if they break down you're in for a very cold and sometimes even painful ride. I think I'll stick to the layers.

I live in the mid-Atlantic area, and I used to commute daily on a motorcycle. With regards to my legs, I used to wear rain pants when it got cooler, it helped a lot more than thermals since once I got to the office, I could just remove the rain pants and I'm not baking at my desk. When it got to 20 F or below, I wore snow pants. Again, that worked better for me as it kept my legs warm, I could strap the bottoms tight to keep the wind out, and I could take them off in the office. With the gloves, I have a pair of "winter" riding gloves, but they lose effectiveness once it's below 40 F. I bought heated inserts, which worked great and my hands were'nt cold the entire trip. The lowest temp I rode in was 4 F, I averaged 75 mph on the way in.

I also ride a Goldwing Tour DCT (also coming from a Road King, and a BMW K1600 GTL). There are lots of weather extremes here in Utah and Wyoming where I live and I have suffered hypothermia in the past because of crappy gear choices. My current gear for cold days is LD Comfort base layer, a down hoodie and Klim A1 airbag vest, all under a Joe Rocket textile jacket. On extra cold days, I'll add a Hotwired heated liner under the hoodie. Winter gloves are heated Hotwire. Pants are DYNS kevlar and armored riding jeans with long johns underneath if its really cold (my Goldwing's lower fairing blocks most of the wind). Boots are Tourmaster like yours. Helmet is a Shoei Neotec 2 modular with a pullover neck cover The jacket is water resistant, especially after spraying some 3M water repellant on it, so I havent yet needed to put on my Nelson-Rigg outer rain gear, but I carry it in my saddlebag just in case. So far so good on riding in weather extremes. i enjoy your videos!

Good info. Some FYI. You can buy Gerbing heated jacket and pants. For about the same price as the Klim jacket you showed. It is absolutely the best option for cold weather riding. And it doesn't add weight like leather does. Many options for heated gear. But you get what you pay for. The good ones, like Gerbing and Warm n safe. Can reach Temps of 135 degrees. The cheaper ones typically reach 115.
