Ep. 315 of Michael Moore's podcast
On this week’s episodes of Michael Moore’s podcast, Mike and his crew disobey the college presidents and NYC’s Mayor Adam’s orders to “outsiders” to stay off the campuses and to stop trying to “radicalize” our youth (because young people don’t have a mind of their own). Mike’s crew (Angie, Donald, and “Anonymous”) paid a visit to protest encampments made up of students from Columbia, City College, City University (CUNY), etc. to hear directly from the brilliant student organizers of these historic demonstrations. These are the voices you won’t hear on the mainstream media. Listen here to their eloquence and passion as they take a stand for the Palestinian people.
And then either join them - or start one yourself.

It was like that with George W's lies too. Craziest thing about that - when Afghanistan was becoming a democratic country, the wealthy despots migrated north and George Bush Sr sold them weapons when he was head of the CIA - they became the Taliban. I swear, the US plan was always to hand that country back to the Taliban. Then you find out all the BS Israel did to empower Hamas like 20 yrs ago. Literally just playing chess with human lives.

They're all corporate-owned, so their formats are geared to cater to a specific audience, who tune in to hear only what they want to hear. The classic ratings war overrides the need for hard news. It factors a lot in the broader crises we all now face. BTW, this shit got started in the 1990s when Bill Clinton deregulated the communications industry. Corporations bought out everything and steadily retooled news media formats.

While there is an unspoken and critical war between America's middle class and the MIC as WELL as the corporate oligarchs and the billionaires, you're oversimplifying the conditions of our rights - at the moment. @@hitreset0291 Sure. But as opposed to where? It's all relative. We have a democracy compromised by an ever-growing oligarcy; Russia has an absolute oligarchy; in turn, Russia's cyber-meddling with western Europe has been compromising THEIR democracies; the Middle East Muslim countries are all theocratic dictatorships that offer no freedom to women or gay people; and most of Asia is controlled by power-hoarding despots. Who is responsible for OUR government? Ultimately, us. When we vote for assholes or don't vote at all, that's what gets into power in the long run. And as long as we can't reform or eliminate the money-controlled electoral college, so that general elections are determined by the Popular Vote - and, for that matter, getting rid of Gerrymandering OUTRIGHT - we're locked to a 2-party system. Inconvenient facts fly all around us.

Look at the resulting 34 trillion dollar debt, which is a direct result of all the money spent on this madness. The debt comes purely from the money spent on this shit. and of course, ya got no proof .... again - - - Hamas built a command center underneath Shifa hospital For years, Hamas has been using a bunker underneath Shifa, the largest hospital in Gaza, as a base of military operations. During the 2009 conflict between Israel and Hamas, Israeli intelligence officials suspected the hospital was being used for cover. According to the Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center, Hamas “closed off some of the departments, stationed armed guards and closely examined everyone in the hospital. … Ismail Haniyeh, head of the de facto Hamas administration, set up his headquarters in the hospital’s burn ward.” Hamas has also insisted on conducting interviews in Shifa’s courtyard, using wounded patients as props for propaganda. ^^^^ FDD

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ - - - Hamas uses hospitals as shields, in violation of the Geneva Conventions According to international law, hospitals are not permitted to be used for military activity. According to the 1949 Geneva Conventions, “the responsible authorities shall ensure that the said medical establishments and units are, as far as possible, situated in such a manner that attacks against military objectives cannot imperil their safety.” A 1977 additional protocol says that “under no circumstances shall medical units be used in an attempt to shield military objectives from attack.” Firing rockets from near hospitals is Hamas doctrine Storing weapons near civilian sites, including hospitals, is part of Hamas’s doctrine. A NATO report examining Hamas activities between 2008 and 2014 found that they fire “rockets, artillery, and mortars from or in proximity to heavily populated civilian areas, often from or near facilities which should be protected.” Journalists from numerous media outlets, including the Financial Times, provided eyewitness testimony of rockets launched from near hospitals. ^^^^ FDD

I have NOT seen this DEDICATION since the Vietnam War. My FIRST political act was gathering signatures to LOWER the voting age from 21 down to 18. "Not old enough to VOTE but old enough to DIE" was OUR motto!. My first demonstration was at the UW . It was a "counter-protest" against Iranians SUPPORTING the Ayatollah Khomeini and the students who took 52 Americans Hostage in Iran. We were there to TELL them that DISSENT against the Khomeini regime would lead their IMPRISONMENT! Now, unlike others, my brother Jim & I were PROTESTING BOTH the SHAH of Iran demanding he be KICKED OUT of the country and sent BACK to Iran! We were also PROTESTING the Carter Adm. allowing him to ENTER the US for "humanitarian" reasons the WE didn't subscribe to.

@@donaldcarpenter5328 thanks for admitting you were wrong on both - - - Babies in cages The Biden junta re-activated the Obama era practice of locking children in cages. The junta renewed the Obama era program of locking migrant children in cages. The New York Times reported the junta was holding 3250 kids in "jail-like facilities" 38% longer than the law allows. Reports indicated that human traffickers were purchasing children for $3200. Drug cartels often recruit or kidnap migrants, hold them for ransom or murder them if their families don't comply with the operatives' demands.[455] Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador expressed concern over the junta incentivizing human trafficking and organized crime. The restoration of the Obama era Catch and Release program brought about the release of covid infected illegal aliens into American communities. According to CBS News, children were held in overcrowded conditions, and some were having to sleep on the floor and were going hungry. One immigration lawyer representing the children said there were kids who have only showered once in seven days and weren't allowed to shower more often. The children were not allowed outdoors and complained of not seeing the sun in days. The Donna complex which is supposed to hold only 250 people held 1,800, or 729% of its pandemic era capacity. The migrants were not able to observe any social distancing because of the massive number of people. The Washington Post reported “[y]oung people are waiting in cramped, austere holding cells with concrete floors and benches. Lights remain on 24 hours a day, agents say, and there are few places to play.

HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA - - - - Hamas has hidden under Shifa since 2007 In 2007, a doctor in Shifa Hospital said, “The medical staff are suffering from fear and terror, particularly of the Hamas fighters, who are in every corner of the hospital.” Former Israeli intelligence chief Avi Dichter said in 2009 that Hamas commanders even at times wear doctor’s robes. The same year, PBS said it “reached a doctor in Gaza who believes Hamas officials are hiding either in the basement or in a separate underground area underneath the hospital.” By 2014, the hospital had become a “de-facto” command center for Hamas. Journalists have revealed the use of the hospital by Hamas over the years. One foreign journalist said Hamas’s use of Shifa is an open secret, but reporters in Gaza are refuse to report about it out of fear for their personal safety. Hamas used hospitals in its 2014 war on Israel In 2014, the conflict between Israel and Hamas spotlighted how Hamas made use of hospitals as part of its strategy. “In Hamas’ world, hospitals are command centers, ambulances are transport vehicles, and medics are human shields,” the IDF said. This was a flagrant violation of international law.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 *🔫 Danger of rubber bullets used against peaceful protesters* - Rubber bullets can be extremely painful and even cause broken bones if hit. - The LAPD is firing rubber bullets at unarmed, non-violent Palestinian protesters on the UCLA campus. - The speaker has personal experience being shot at with rubber bullets by the Israeli Defense Force while reporting on the First Palestinian Intifada in 1988. 02:31 *🌍 Student protests for Palestine across US campuses* - This week, students across hundreds of US campuses have risen up to stand for the people of Palestine who are under siege and slaughter by the Israeli army. - The speaker's crew visited protest encampments at Columbia, CUNY, and other NYC campuses to hear directly from the students. - The students have been "brilliant" and "organized and peaceful" in their protests, despite being "smeared and slandered" by the media. 04:49 *🗣️ Giving voice to the student protesters* - The speaker wants to share the voices of the student protesters, as they are not heard in the mainstream media. - He believes the students are being lied about and portrayed as "just kids" being controlled by "outside agitators", which is false. - The speaker applauds the students for taking a stand and exercising their democratic rights to assemble, have free speech, and disrupt non-violently. 08:14 *🇵🇸 Visiting the CUNY encampment* - The speaker and his crew visit the encampment at the City College of New York (CCNY). - The encampment has a prominent Palestinian flag displayed under the American flag on a large flagpole. - A banner outlines the five demands of the encampment: divest, boycott, solidarity, demilitarize, and a people's university. 09:05 *🕴️ Student organizer discusses the encampment* - A student organizer from the CI for Palestine group and SJP leader at Hunter College describes how the encampment was organized. - As a Palestinian American student, the organizer felt censorship and repression on US campuses, inspiring them to take action. - The encampment is demanding the university divest, respect academic boycotts, show solidarity, remove police/military presence, and create a "people's university". 13:44 *🔯 Jewish student perspective on Zionism and colonialism* - A Jewish student from the "Not In Our Name" collective discusses how Zionism is anti-Semitic and harmful to Jews. - Zionism prioritizes a Jewish state over the lives of Jews and Palestinians, whom it oppresses through colonialism. - The student argues Zionism is the root issue, not just anti-Semitism, and debunks the narrative that these protests are anti-Semitic. 15:48 *🇮🇱 Jewish student solidarity with Palestinian liberation* - A Jewish Cy student explains their dual identity as a Jew and socialist, and the need for Jewish voices to support Palestinian liberation. - As someone with family ties to Israel, the student feels obligated to speak out against the oppression of Palestinians. - The student emphasizes the importance of Jewish solidarity in this movement, as Palestinian voices are being silenced. 18:33 *🎓 Risks and repercussions for student activism* - The Jewish student is currently a non-degree student, and faces potential repercussions from the university for their involvement in the encampment. - However, the student is willing to face these risks because they believe the movement is worth the sacrifices. - The student is prepared for the possibility of police escalation and arrest, as this is a struggle they are committed to. 20:00 *🕊️ Faculty solidarity and support for the encampment* - Faculty members from the Professional Staff Congress union have come out in support of the student encampment. - A union vice president expressed willingness to listen to the students' demands, which is seen as a positive start. - Faculty are planning to bring their classes to the encampment on May Day to teach about liberation and Palestine. 24:01 *🧠 Impressed by students' organization and vision* - A graduate student involved in supporting the encampment is impressed by the "brilliant" planning and "meticulous organization" of the undergraduate student organizers. - The student describes a balance between carefully thought-out plans and a "fearlessness" in the students' commitment to the cause of Palestine. - The speaker notes the encampment has a beautiful, grounded atmosphere focused on the central issue of Palestine and Gaza. - The student organizers keep the focus on the struggle against the genocide in Gaza, despite facing attacks and attempts to delegitimize the movement. - The encampment cultivates a "beautiful community" and vision of how things could be, while remaining deeply serious about the urgent situation in Palestine. - The student leaders draw inspiration and lessons from past campus movements, like the 1969 struggle for open admissions. 26:31 *🔒 Know your rights training* - The encampment provides know-your-rights training for participants, instructing them on how to respond to police interactions. - The key advice is to firmly but calmly assert "Am I free to leave?" and remain silent, refusing to provide any information to officers. - This training aims to empower and protect the protesters in the face of potential arrests or escalation by authorities. 30:01 *🗣️ Challenges of encampment organizing* - The organizers emphasize the importance of communication and inclusivity in managing the diverse encampment community. - They hold daily assemblies to update participants and gather feedback, recognizing the difficulties of coordinating people from different backgrounds. 31:41 *🚨 Confrontations with campus security* - The encampment has faced attempts by campus public safety officers to enter and disrupt the protest. - Students and faculty have successfully pushed back against these attempts, demonstrating the power of their unified collective action. 34:02 *🔗 Connecting to historical struggles* - A veteran activist from the 1969 campus protests shares the importance of building community support and drawing inspiration from past movements. - The current encampment is seen as carrying on the legacy of those earlier struggles against imperialism and for marginalized communities. 36:25 *🗳️ Critiquing the Democratic party and Biden* - The student organizer expresses disappointment and lack of faith in the Democratic party and President Biden, who they see as complicit in the ongoing oppression of Palestinians. - They argue that true change requires the people to reclaim their power, not rely on politicians who serve the interests of the state and Israeli occupation. 40:04 *🛡️ Addressing accusations of anti-Semitism* - The organizers confront the common misconception that their movement is anti-Semitic, highlighting the presence and support of their Jewish allies. - They argue that anti-Zionism is not the same as anti-Semitism, and that their struggle is against oppression and for the liberation of all marginalized peoples. 44:09 *🕊️ Emphasizing love and solidarity in the movement* - The organizers stress that their movement is fueled by love and a genuine desire for justice, not hatred or a desire for conflict. - They have explicitly chosen to not engage with or provoke Zionist counter-protesters, as their focus remains on the liberation of Palestinians. 45:49 *📢 Encouraging other students to take action* - The organizers urge other college and high school students to follow their example and start their own encampments or protests in solidarity with Palestine. - They emphasize that the time for action is now, as inaction is complicity in the ongoing oppression and genocide. 48:05 *🏕️ Commitment to sustaining the encampment* - The organizers make it clear that the encampment is a permanent fixture until their five key demands are met by the university administration. - They are prepared to face arrests, suspensions, or other repercussions, but vow to return and continue their protest until they achieve their objectives. 48:54 *🗣️ Chanting demands for justice* - The students and supporters chant slogans demanding "no tuition" and an end to the "genocide" in Palestine. - The chanting reflects the resolute determination of the protest movement to keep fighting until their key demands are met. 49:30 *🏪 Acknowledgement of sponsors* - The speaker acknowledges the podcast's sponsors, Shopify and Moink, for supporting the platform to elevate these important voices. - Shopify is described as an accessible commerce platform empowering individuals and businesses, while Moink is a mission-driven meat subscription service supporting small family farms. 52:39 *💬 Final reflections and calls to action* - The speaker expresses deep appreciation for the powerful voices and experiences shared by the student organizers. - The speaker encourages high school and college students to follow the example of the protest encampments and exercise their right to free speech. ya got no facts - - - Hamas used al-Wafa Hospital for military purposes Al-Wafa Hospital was turned into a command center, rocket-launching site, and observation post, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in 2014. “Hamas repeatedly opened fire from hospital windows and used anti-tank missiles from the premises. Hamas deliberately and cynically turned the hospital into a legitimate military target.” When the IDF carried out a precision airstrike near the hospital, it first called to warn their administrators. Video released during the 2014 conflict showed Hamas launching rockets next to al-Wafa Hospital in the Shajaiyeh neighborhood of Gaza City. The IDF claimed the hospital has been “a hotbed of terrorists activities, with gun and anti-tank missile fire originating from the site.”

Anything that hits you hurts. Protests waste resources and always send the wrong message because there is nothing productive being done to actually offer anything worthwhile because of being too busy to take real action. Imagine if the students had a widespread donation rally? Support is more efficient over isolated protest groups.

And tell me...the sign with the 5 1/2 points. Was that supposed to be the house rules for that protest group? So... tell me...where were those "rules" followed, eh? But it looks good on camera. Bottom line for me...they had me with the "why" but lost me when the violence started. And I am afraid the property damage and violence drowns out any message touted.
