I haven't ever actually met someone who I know is an ESFP, but I would like to. I am an INTP, and just getting things done and believing in yourself just because is alien to me. I have some goals I would like to accomplish in life, and some things I truly believe in, but trying to accomplish them, especially since they're rather lofty, is terrifying. I actually think I'm suceeding, but my anxiety drives me up the wall while I'm doing it. I really respect the ability to just do what you believe in with confidence. Keep on going ESFPs, and you can go far.

I admire ESFPs. It seems to me they have the best, most fun filled life no matter what station of life they're at. My sister is an ESFP. She's literally the life of the party. They can make the most mundane seem like an awful lot of fun and tell the most lively stories. They've got this "normalcy" thing going for them too, so they're all good if you need them as a gauge in a sensory world. They're also quite sensitive and thoughtful. I love ESFPs. You're welcome!!! :D

As the polar opposite of an ESFP I find them fascinating. The ability of spontaneity and creativity within fractions of a second often comes at the cost of effectiveness. This is a pitfall ESFPs don't have. To change people mood and the aesthetics of any area within fractions of a second without any planning is really fucking powerful. The understanding of social dynamics and style to the umpteenth degree without research is amazing. The abilities of intuition without the fog, and confidence in everything improvisational, all of this is fascinating, and useful. So with all of in mind (about 4 1/2 years ago) I set out to be at parties and not just for the people-watching. I found a fellow art kid who was ESFP and just didn't present that so flamboyantly in class. This was also a person deeply entrenched within people-pleasing (I will call her Katie for this story). Katie is capable in technical knowledge, but shined with others and the random creativity. After spotting this and realizing a few different flaws (lacking in math, constantly afraid of rejection, and really crap at long-term goals). Lacking in math... find excuses to tutor Katie (I already did this anyway). Bluntly honest as per usual, this cementing myself as a nerd, fellow art kid, and someone she didn't have to please (I detached technical skill from personhood. This is just the healthy thing to do when tutoring, I made sure all statements had reasoning, and made sure to ask questions about herself, people leave conversations about themselves happier). However, she didn't seem to know a lot about herself: "I dunno what do you like to do?" "Well, I just kind go with whatever style the people around me are," "I think I just get bored, you know?" After a few more weeks of this I finally *FINALLY* managed to figure what she wanted to do: be a fashion designer of some kind. "I like making awesome costumes and outfits. Cause' like I know this stuff, and some people don't, soooooo" With this in mind I started making college things for any of that clear, and once she asked I taught her Adobe art tools. Everyone has ambitions, they might just not realize it yet. Once all of that was finished, I got her started on creative things she liked to do, made the communication/ aesthetic abilities consciously recognized, and I as I thought it made her better at it. (Called it) I am running an art studio with this person as of now. I did it. I got all of the skills and experience she brought. All of the perspectives and capabilities of spontaneity in the one awesome person. I managed to introduce the rest of my introvert friends to her without overwhelming them. *y e s.... I t w o r k e d* Thank you for coming to my TEDTALK

The work-ethic, capability of change and aesthetics, ability to understand (social dynamics, emotions), and to live in the moment, are amazing. As the INFJ friend so lovingly put it "You both are the villain, you both have stoicism, and you both have genius just in vastly opposite ways" Me: Wha- wait a damn minute Katie: How am I stoic Me: constant cheariness not showing true emotions, abilities of both deception and perception, and wide proficiency in existence just from different perspectives, *h ol y f uc k in g sh i t* Katie: oh... Me: We are BOTH THE VILLAIN

It's more than an instinct. It's a singular internal unshakeable vision that comes from the inferior function Ni. That is, when the esfp is operating at their highest. The vision is often deeply unconscious, but every effective use of Se contains it. They achieve total success most often when they have the equanimity of Fi coupled with the force of Se. The esfp who has achieved it becomes pure motion.

As a wife of an ESFP I can confirm what you said. I am amazed how my husband just stumples in his chaotic way into action while I am still overthinking and the childlike enthusiasm he embraces the world while I have my head in the clouds. I’m an ESFP and my mom and dad are ISFJ and ENTP (complete opposites I know, it’s pretty interesting though) Thank god though, it is very nice to have two Si, Ti, Fe and Ne users around all the time. 😌 Btw I think general consensus is ENTP ESFP is a pretty good match. Simplest way to think of it, ENTPs offer logic, ideas and make the ESFP feel good, and the ESFP can provide comfort, good experiences, and rationale to the ENTP. Imo maybe it’s a bit better for the ESFP, there’s much to learn from many of the ENTPs I’ve met in my life, and generally a good time too!! Idk about other ESFPs, but I just hope I’m not annoying to ENTPs lmao. I can be pretty loud and high energy sometimes which can be a good or bad thing depending on the ENTP.

Sir, this was very inspiring. I realize on some level, I have all those qualities you mentioned. But in many cases, I slow myself down in self doubt. However, two things encouraged to live even wilder than I already do: 1) I just came home from my cousin's funeral and 2) This video. Life is too short not to do all the things. And as long as I'm not hurting anyone, I'm promising to fully trust myself and go for all of it. Anything less is denying my nature. This video just gives me permission to go 10x.

ESFPs certainly have a genius that I admire from afar (because they are so far above me), and genius ESFPs are astonishingly sociable and deep in their relationships. I have known and worked with a number of extremely bright and talented ESFPs, and the miracle is that they're still ESFPs. It's so anti-stereotypical. They are a joy to be around. Every time an ESFP leaves an area for a new home, church bells should ring in the old neighborhood for all the people feeling the loss. They are beloved for all kinds of reasons but mainly their positive, friendly, engaging vibe.

Just made an ESFP friend watch the video. He related to everything big time. He was repeating what Nathan says and providing real life examples about trusting his instincts, challenging himself in the moment, and spotting what others miss that he referred to it as "gaps". I think that mature ESFPs must've learned the life lessons stated in this video the hard way. That's what makes being in their presence and hearing them speak both enlightening and pleasurable.

After deep diving in the mbti universe I’ve slowly come to regard the function groups as my favorite way to group the personalities, instead of the temperaments. Temperaments are like a mirage if you find someone in your temperament group. They seem so alike on the outside but once you get to know each other it’s like you’re constantly just missing each other and it can feel so lonely. I’m an Intj and esfps along with isfps and entjs are all people I feel so seen and alive with. We all have the same functions but personify different parts of ourselves. I actually feel Intj and esfp have a lot in common.

What is your advise or ruminating thoughts when confronted with an esfp male , 41, who fits the type almost down to the stereotypes.... who is also experiences the affects if childhood emotional neglect. I know any type is liable to be unlike their typing suggests based on so many factors. But I’m an intj in a serious relationship with this person. I managed to hold on long enough to rule out what on the surface appeared to be bisntent narcissistic personality disorder. Too many major indicators just didn’t fit. I survived post honey moon phase that resulted in intense Bordem. Fallowed by “ hey I’ll be right back ....” three silent days later I’m dumped. Put that behind us and educating myself as much as I can. But I’m struggling to sort out the parts that are truly inherently his inferior function and what needs to be look at under the scope of CEN. Nathan, I have a question that popped up in my mind a few days ago; are you primarily a music teacher that explores MBTI in free time, or did you get a psychology degree but decided to pursue music in the end?

So I started properly teaching music (which I do online) around the same time that I started editing the videos on this channel so they kind of coincided! I have a degree in Biology but no qualifications in Psychology only me theoretical ramblings ~ Nathan

So would it be fair to say that many esfps do not embrace their intuition ever? is it just a matter of maturity? Just trying to figure out how they grow the stones to do half of the stuff they do. Don't get me wrong, I dont claim to be a wallflower. Confidence and I have a decent working relationship. But esfps have the stones. I wrap my wonkyness and lack of mechanical elegance in comedy to protect me from the blinking red light that warns "danger of failure..."

I think a persons level of 'stones' is correlated with not over-thinking things. Taking fast action and adapting is often a better approach then spending loads of time planning, and this is coming from someone who is a constant planner ~ Nathan
