Thanks for this! The first time watching was a bit of a culture shock as such a fan of the original, but I found watching a second time I could appreciate it a lot more on its own merits, it's a pity they don't go in for the hidden information and reveals the Korean show did so well, but given the shorter runtime I think they tell the stories quite well and I quite like the darker stylings. Thrilled it's not completely rubbish, basically.

the genius format is great, i wish it was picked up in my country, but the style of filming and editing is not dynamic like in S.Korea, so it wouldn't so interesting to watch. this version feels a bit rushed, and i miss the Narrator giving more insight of how the game strategy develops from players' actions

I think it's a shame for the rest of the show that Jasper died so early, but it's interesting how they did the same game as episode 1 of season 2, and Jasper who ends up losing had a similar outlook and attitude to Hwee-Jong who also died in that episode. Definitely shows it's not good play to show off so outwardly early on, especially if you're not going to at least try to leverage that by making alliances with other players to say 'keep me in the game and I'll help you win in future as a strong ally'

I just watched a clip of that episode! Attitude wise, Jasper seems quite polished. Hwee-jong on the other hand was vengeful and immature. He got so cocky after picking the Lion he acted as if he already won. He also made a strategy mistake by making alliances with the other predators, not realizing he actually had to kill them off to ensure enough prey for himself. Considering he's some kind of big shot math teacher, it's shocking he didn't do the simple math. I recently got into survival game shows and I'm excited for this Dutch version!

There are some things that made Genius popular in Korea, but they seem to have missed why it was so popular. So here are my thoughts what the show is missing: 1) better intro - I have no absolutely idea who these people are, other than that they have a career. Since the intro is very short, maybe more would be revealed after they got to know each other....but nothing even then....so why should we care? More dialog between people. Give them food or something to bond over. 2) too complex a game for the first game - it is poorly explained too - peeking before game when? how many times can they attack? does no one ask these questions or are they asked behind a camera? Also why are there clues about everyone's location? It seems two guys won by accident, not doing anything. 3) no motivation - at one point I see the black guy in the suit being bored, people are just chilling on couch. They have to introduce a resource to bargain with and to fight for in the end - no goal was revealed (money, fame, victory points???) so why should the participants or the viewers even care? 4) hidden info - there is no big reveal about a hidden info in the show, maybe the players are too timid but this can be improved later, but the players have to CARE about winning for the viewers to care. Maybe the prize is 10 euros and a dinner? 5) location and setting - I have no idea where they are. How far are the locations from each other? It honesly seems cold there. Will this be the same location always? Smaller Indoor seems much better choice, also to put some hidden stuff around for future games. Europe has a lot of castles - that would be my choice.

I agree completely. I wasn't as invested in this one, and the game was so complicated for a first game but not properly explained. In the last round even the players were confused about why some people won or died, they didn't utilize a strategy they just happened to not be killed or to have accidentally trapped themselves into dying.

So... was the translation of the rules of 4-Mation wrong? Because the English says clearly that a 4-Mation is when there four different colours AND four different numbers. And yet both players had duplicate numbers, and both were deemed to have a 4-Mation? Huh?

I think since, like you said, BOTH had duplicate numbers, and there HAD to be one loser, they just picked the one with the lower sum.

They ignored the rule, seems like everyone forgot about it, even the producers because no one even mentioned Zelke failed on the third round, and everyone, including the narrator, was talking like both of them still had chances of completing a valid hand.

i think it's because he thought that it would be better to choose an animal that had the same goal as him (to survive) so it wouldn't be suspicious when he tried to act accordingly. i think its also confusion of the rules, maybe not thinking if he got chameleon what to pick ahead of time

😂😂😂 I've been looking for shows like The Genius(original) after watching it in 2015, rewatched it during pandemic since I can't find similar shows. Then this week I've discovered The Devil's Plan in Netflix w/c have the same Producer/Director(?) as The Genius(original), I can say that it was pretty good but not as good as The Genius(original) Then I found this show. I tried to enjoy watching it but I really can't. There is so many lacking aspect Props to whoever made this but I can only rate this 3/10
