I'm thinking a lot of people in George's circle were probably comparing Ralph to George repeatedly and he probably got tired of hearing it. I never think it was about disrespecting or putting Ralph down in any way.

It's like he's jealous of Barbosa and his fame from KZbin and social media and how these platforms do cause talented performers to " blow up ". But definitely decent of Lopez to apologize.

Because he doesn't want this kid be promoted on his account. Showbiz is a business. Don't think George haven't been promoting young artists. He has been. One of them is Carlos Mencia. George has been around for a long time and knows that very few return to thank you for being there for them. It seems that he is done being used. His wife is a prime example. She ripped him off for all the money she could, turned his daughter against him. "Look, Daddy is neglecting you. He is not there for you." Are you freaking kidding me? If he is paying bills, he is there for you. Believe me as someone who grew up with a father who was 🔩ing around while leaving us broke I know the difference. If your Dad paying your bills, your vacation, your every whomp....he is there for you even if he lets his job consume him. Don't hate on George. He is an old dog. There is a lot of wisdom is what he says. I too did everything for my husband and kids. Now that I'm broke financially and physically I am lucky if they bring me glass of water. God forbid I end up feeble. I know I'll be left neglected. So, yeah. Live those whom you love but at the same time live for yourself.

If your Dad paying your bills, your vacation, your every whim....he is there for you even if he lets his job consume him. And him being unfaithful to your Mother has nothing to do with you. Being a husband and a father are two different dimensions. Just because he got involved with some other woman romantically doesn't mean that he is a bad father. And for his wife to allow their daughter to become bitter with Dad is wrong. That's nothing but retaliation even at your own kids's expense. Don't hate on George. He is an old dog. There is a lot of wisdom is what he says. I too did everything for my husband and kids. Now that I'm broke financially and physically I am lucky if they bring me glass of water. There's a gatekeeping mentality that proliferated (and still does) in Hollywood for many who made it and knew there were only "so many" roles for Mexicans or Blacks or Asians, etc. Though it's far easier, now, for people to make it on their own without kissing the ring. By the way, I remember when you were only at 5k subscribers, bro. Good s××t.

Sometimes different communities have a generational shift in how comedy is done. For instance, Russell Peters was the first mainstream Indian comic in the 90s and 2000s, and ALL his jokes revolved around either being Indian or race and ethnicity. Then later new Indian comics came up, and they have touched on being Indian a little, but guys like Aziz Ansari and Akash Singh have different material. Not sure if that caused any of the same friction, because the new Indian comics knew Russell Peters paved the way for them.

Being a first generation Mexican born and raised in Chicago among the millions of Mexicans that make up the Mexican population in the north, I really felt alienated by his jokes namely, when he would say,”…and you know how us Mexicans are…” His jokes never resonated with me because that’s not how “all is Mexicans” were up north even being first generation. We were from everywhere in Mexico from D.F. to Matamoros. He was speaking to the SoCal and border Mexicans. I found it strange to watch my friends with family from McAllen and Corpus start to act like this is how we should be. It felt fake. At 44 years old I feel closer to Ralph Barbosa’s style of comedy because he doesn’t put the Mexican stereotype up front. If you feel it you feel it but he’s not like “well you know us Mexicans, am I right, huh, you know how us Mexicans are”. Ralph’s comedy also seems so much more natural. You can tell he’s not trying to be someone he’s not. The other dude just seems like he was trying too hard to be Paul Rodriguez, who was actually really funny.

It’s starting to become very obvious that California Mexicans hate on Mexicans in other states. I’m from Texas, and our border is over 1,200 miles vs. California’s 140 miles, yet they swear they’re “more Mexican.” I think it’s straight up jealousy. Mexicans in California do not thrive as much as the rest of us. & based on what many professional chefs say (and from personal experience), Chicago has the best Mexican food in the USA.

I love George man i grew up as a kid watching him and I love the Mexican community but after watching that interview I lost all respect for him. If he says “he didn’t know him” Then why would you disrespect someone you don’t know ? He’s really hating on his come up. much respect to anyone who’s just trying to make it doing what they love

it's because Barbosa is not really funny. He's not that funny, sure he's clever and could get better, but he's just really not that funny. At least not yet. So it was either 2 ways Lopez could of dealt with it, he could of said what he really thought which is Barbosa isn't funny or just act like he doesn't know who Barbosa is. Now which one of these seemed less brutal?? I think George Lopez should of been brutally honest and said Barbosa isn't funny. But all you cancel culture pussies would of attacked Lopez either way just like the way you are acting right now, so Lopez just acted like he doesn't know who he is. That was George being nice.

I remember in the 90s and early 2000s, George Lopez was considered a new generation of Latino comics, he wasn't young young like Ralph Barbosa, like a 20s guy. But back then Lopez was in his 30s or at the oldest 40, which was younger than Cheech Marin or Paul Rodriguez, the previous OG Latino comics that ruled the 70s, 80s, and first half of the 90s

I think the reaction is more about his pettiness in this instance. Even George himself understands that he didn't have to belittle him like that and apologized to him. You're right about him being old school though. His generation really had to struggle against each other to make it so its easy to see why his immediate reaction to someone bringing up another comic's success is to downplay it.

I think since George Lopez was the first really really mainstream Latino comic, he doesn't want competition, he wants to be the only Latino comic in America. Now I remember there were Latino comics before George Lopez when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s. Cheech Marin and Paul Rodriguez immediately come to mind, and although Cheech found some success in movies back in the 70s and 80s, he never had a TV show like George Lopez. Paul Rodriguez was really funny, that guy was making jokes in 1987 or 1991 about Taco Bell that Latino comics today still make, I wish Paul Rodriguez had been more successful.

A few years ago a friend took me to see George Lopez for my birthday. To be honest, the opening act was so much funnier. It was then that I realized George Lopez has been trying to get by on the same worn out Chicano stereotype jokes that he's told forever. George Lopez hasn't been relevant in probably 15 years. He's just butthurt that a younger more talented Latino comic is blowing up with smart material that doesn't rely on those stupid stereotypes.
