I just got curious, and went exploring in the crash zone, like other side of the aurora, and I was expecting to encounter like 7-8 reapers on my journey. I encountered 0, which was infinitely more unsettling

There are some spots on some leviathans bodies. Perhaps those are scars from laying eggs.

Ghost Leviathans attack you with a bite, not ramming. I very much believe that it attacks you firstly because you entered it's territory but it also eats you as a second bonus. Your character is very small compared to it, even smaller than it's main prey but not by much if i remember correctly. I don't believe that a predator like that would skip a potential source of protein.

Missed the upload somehow but hello again, love it when you post. Ghost leviathans are one of the coolest looking leviathans in the game, but since the area where theyre encountered the most (the lost river) is kinda a late game area they don’t feel too threatening at all, which is disappointing

Since 3 show up in the void no matter where you are even if you go to one side then go straight across to the other they will show up due to them just spawning in once you enter the void anywhere it kind of implies that there’s many more circling around the crater and just 3 tend to be how many show up when something enters

I may be weird but I didn’t have much trouble with Ghosts. Because they glow they aren’t too hard to spot early and so long as you stay out of their way, they leave you alone. I had much more trouble with Reapers, since they actively hunt you. The only trouble I really had was when I tried building a scanner room in the Sparse Reef and one kept attacking me, but he wondered off after a while and I was fine.

It's weird how nobody talks about the fact that the Ghost Leviathan is the actual biggest aggressive Leviathan in the crater, with the ones in the void being around 122 meters long, 10 whole meters longer than the Sea Dragon

Fun fact: the ghost leviathan in the lost river is a juvenile. 3 adults will (eventually) spawn in the crater edge when you stay in the crater edge for too long.

I think that the only ghost leviathan in the egg is the thing that looks like it has a stem. The rest are polar bodies, which are parts of an egg cell that are the remains of the other daughter cells that result from meiosis.

Ghost leviathans surviving on micro organisms in the void really doesn't seem plausible unless they somehow don't use any energy at all. Even in below zero we see the glow whales having gigantic mouths in a vastly more nutritious area. Most other creatures i can at least sort of see possible

Many giant whale species feed on micro organisms in real life, it’s not unreasonable to assume that could be scaled up to the sizes of the ghost leviathan and even the sea emperor leviathan. Even so the PDA states that adult ghost leviathans would need vast areas of water to meet their caloric requirements, and likely migrate across the planet in search of new feeding grounds. It’s likely that the adult ghost leviathans you see in game were born far away from the crater, potentially on the other side of the planet, and only come here as one of their mating grounds.

Its a big snake tho, i was let down there wasnt a monster built like an orca or shark. Theres so many natural predators they could have stole from like mantis shrimps but instead we ge aliens that wouldnt really work in real life. Still a great game tho.

Tons of creatures in real life have dominated that look just like Subnautica creatures, in fact snakes are literally some of the longest developed living creatures yet along side crocodilians. They have remained mostly unchanged. Subnautica creatures if they existed on earth would literally body any other ocean creature easily.

@@Antivirus-uk3rx No chance a pod can defeat Reapers, whales give Orca's a hard time and they barely have any real weaponry or predator like instinct or battle experience or aggressiveness, a group of Reapers would shred them, especially if the Reapers have to share the place they live with other such Leviathans that are way stronger. Any leviathan from Reaper and above it would again body any ocean creature, especially when the apex creature of the ocean on Earth is literally the Orca.
