When I was in my Seamoth, I was behind the Aurora, and being chased by a bunch of Reapers, then I went quite a bit away, and I thought I was safe. I was at the surface, and when I looked down, I saw one of these beasts. My Seamoth was flung about 15 meters into the air OUT of the water, and my Seamoth wasn't fast enough to outrun it and it blew up. I, was then left with just my Seaglide. I then became Seafood.

That sucks... I have actually never been killed by a Reaper Leviathan before. I’m just careful and keep my distance. My Seamoth has been grabbed but I always heal it to 100% health before I go on any missions.

gargantuan is most likely extinct. But if it isn't, then yes, that's the biggest lifeform so far.

the gargantuan predator would a leviathan class or even the (made up right now) super-leviathan class. As such, it would most likely live in the ecological dead zone, which pretty much means that it could be anywhere in the depths of the planet, eating the other leviathan class living there. Remember, us only knowing of the Ghost Leviathan and (in the past) the Sea Emperor Leviathan living there does not mean those are the only creatures living in the void... or the biggest. If the gargantuan were alive, it would probably eat ghost leviathans.

that's actually the whole point of the conversation: we don't know if Sea Emperor is actually the biggest. It's the biggest we've ever seen, but considering the planet goes to more than 8 km under sea level, there might be more creatures, even much larger ones, hiding away in the darkness of the deadzone, either herbivores feeding on plankton or gargantuan predators that feed on the other leviathans,

I doubt anyone will read this but in case you do, here's a story about my "pet" ghost leviathan: So, I was trying to find the wreck in the blood kelp zone (I was in the wrong one anyways) and found the edge of the map (where it goes steep down). I didn't know and just kept exploring. Got a new entry in the PDA and started reading. Got to the part where it said "the crater supports only two kinds of life: microscopic, and leviathan class". In that moment I heard a loud roar and saw TWO ghost leviathans charging towards me. I escaped with 53 hull integraty on the seamoth. The best part: one of the leviathans apperantly continued to follow me, then bugged out and is now roaming the entrance to my base I built in the blood kelp zone. Great fun.

Actually one's best defense against anything (aside from Adult ghosts, and sea dragons, still testing) are a propulsion cannon (either hand held, or on the prawn) and crashfish for ammo.

involuntaryanalysis my method isn't quite a defence but if you can stasis them and get close to their hotbox then you can drop gas pods on them, from my testing it'll take 20-30 gas pods to kill a sea dragon and that's pretty good

When I first got attacked by one of these guys, I immediately saw that face and it scares the Frick out of me. But then, I killed one of these, and looked at its mouth. An alternative (and marginally more terrifying) theory to the size of the ghost eggs is that they hatch in large groups, similar to fish like salmon. Imagine you're just chilling by the cove tree and one day that egg bursts open with 20-30 ghost leviathans coming out of it.

That’s so similar to what happened with me! When I first played Subnautica, my laptop could only JUST run the game so there were understandably multiple bugs. My bug, was that in an attempt to find the floating island (using the technique of swimming towards the foggy cloud SW) it didn’t load in so I was just endlessly swimming with deep water under me. Here's my first encounter with the Ghost leviathan: I was heading to the deep grand reef to get some gel sacks since I needed them to make a thermal plant. Since my Seamoth was only able to go 200m deep I was forced to hop out and swim to the ocean floor. After I had collected a few I turned back to my Seamoth so I could replenish my oxygen. But just as I turned around I saw a Ghost leviathan attack it. After it had finished f***ing my Seamoth and me s***ing my pants I was forced to make a B-line to my Seamoth since I was only a few seconds away from drowning. As soon as I got in I saw the damned thing come back for round 2, I reversed up to the surface as fast as I could. While I was escaping I managed to take a horrifying screenshot of it charging at me. I still have it saved on my computer.

I remember when I first encountered a ghost leviathan. It was the first leviathan I ever encountered (Not counting in the Reefback). I was just casually exploring the grand reef with my seamoth, and then I just look behind and I see a ginormous blue creature screaming and coming right toward me. I almost shat my pants. (It was actually one of the adult ghost leviathans found in the grand reef) FUN FACT: As of writing this, I still haven't encountered a reaper. Its almost weird. I have fixed the aurora, and now I'm exploring the disease research facility in the lost river. I've encountered the juvenile ghost leviathan multiple times (the one that roams in the lost river near the big drop) and I've named him breadcrumbs. As a tip to anyone who comes across them, if you're in ur prawn, they won't come and take ur breadcrumbs if you don't piss on their cheetoes. What I mean is that if u leave them alone they probs won't attack u. EDIT 2: Read the reply to this if u wanna hear what happened to me later.

Yeah, As an update, when I went to get some more lithium from the mountain island, I also remembered that behind the G.U.N there is a reaper leviathan. I wanted to scan it. (I was on the island and as u know theres a reaper roaming next to it). I jumped off the island and there it was. I used my statis rifle to stun it and I scanned it. So, now i’ve encountered one. I guess my book of not running into them is still clear as I technically went after one. EDIT: I wasn’t that scared when actually scanning the reaper and going near it. I still wanted to resurface quickly and go back on dry land before the statis bubble ended. Apparently it ended right when I turned my back, because right when I get up from the water onto dry land and think i’m safe, I turn my back and right then the reaper just jumps out of the water. (So it was following me) After that jumpscare I was legit so scared that I needed to pause the game and go take a 15min walk. As for reference, subnautica and other horror games don’t scare me that much, meaning I was legit so scared.

Yea the holes in terrain happen quite often on my slow laptop, (i5 4200 dual core, GT920M, 4GB RAM), also my PRAWN suit would keep falling through the ground. Also tip if ur prawn falls: let it fall to 8192m down it will then tp above water, and if u get out it can only fall 30m below you, then it wont fall until u get back in, so you can repair it once or twice and safely get down to 8192m down.

I remember I first encountered the Ghost Leviathan, when I decided to go in a straight line with my Seamoth at the surface of the water. When the AI told me I was entering the "ecological dead zone" I had no idea what it meant. So I nearly had a heart attack when some giant blue demons rose out the seemingly safe water and destroyed my sub.

My friend fought one, it never hit him, it just went towards him then through him. It would try to attack miss or go through a non moving survival player and then back off. I also had an encounter with a sea dragon in survival in my prawn suit and it shot fireballs but never hit me and eventually just left me alone because u can't out run it even with grapple and jet upgrade

Actually, you can outspeed with the grapple. Just aim for the ground and release at the right moment.

I still remember my first reaction to basically every creature in this game...mostly because it was the same phrase each time but one. Stalker - "Hi! You look friendly, let me scan you." Crabsnake - "Hi! You look friendly, let me scan you." Crabsquid - "Hi! You look friendly, let me scan you." Reaper - "Hi! You look friendly, let me sc-OUCH!" Sea Dragon - "Hi! You look friendly, let me scan you." Ghost - "o_O Ohgodpleasedon'tseemepleasedon'tseemepleasedon'tseeme-!!" That said, when I played Hardcore, suddenly the Reaper leviathans took top spot again. The Ghost leviathans terrify me, but at least *I can see them coming*.

When my cousin came over to play Subnautica in my Xbox, we were doing our thing until he wanted to explore the third degasi base. Now we were severely ill equipped for this journey with only a sea moth going to 300m, but when we made it there, he left his sea moth right on top of the crush depth, and he went exploring until we heard the warning vc. He goes to check on it, and the look on our faces when we see the Ghost Leviathan is priceless.

I think if Ghost leviathans were real they would be a huge problem since they can and will just kill anything in their territory, and considering even the largest animals are 1/3 their size it would be pretty difficult to get rid of them

My first experience with a ghost Leviathan was when I was returning home after exploring, I wanted to go all the way around the Aurora to avoid the reapers because they gave me nightmares, I was just calmly bringing my seamoth around when my pda said ecological deadzone, and I realized, "wait there's no ground I've been sailing in a black sea" but I shrugged it off because it was night so I guessed it was just steep and visibility was low, and then my seamoth took damage and at the corner of the glass I saw a blue glow that was attached to something behind me, so I turned around and there was the very sight that would fill me with infinite horror, a massive, blue, glowing, see through worm like creature twisting and turning and it let out it's terrifying screech and I decided to just get out of there, when I made it to land again I felt safer and continued home. After that experience I was almost always filled with horror when I went away from home because I would think that even if I know it's safe here, I thought that path home was safe too then nightmare fuel incarnate paid me a visit, so now I'm scared shitless thinking I could just be ambushed by a behemoth at any time, now the worst part is though, I still had to deal with the reapers which then I almost saw as a saving grace that meant I'm nearly home and away from the terrible beasts of the void.

The first time I ever encountered one of these I swear I almost crapped my pants. I had only just started playing, inspired by a KZbinr and knew that there was some sort of island north of the map so I thought 'hey I'm just gonna swim until I see land and find that alien thing'. Then I stopped after a while and said 'uh this looks deep what's down here?' So turns out is was the bulb zone and I ended up seeing an ampeel and thought 'bruh that's cool imma scan it'. Not a good idea when you're barely 3 days in. I freaked out, swam to like 5m and swam as fast as possible. I didn't even know where I was going. I would've never guessed I'd go over the crater edge.... And that's when I saw it. I thought it was some weird blue reaper since I didn't know about any other Leviathans except for the reefback. Tried scanning and died in the process ;-;

My favorite detail from the ghost leviathan juvenile pda entry is that they seem to be directly related to the ampeels, and the little protrusions you can see inside their bodies are vestigial electrical prongs. “Displays some similarities to other eel-like predators in the area, however the ghost leviathan has covered over the electrical prongs on its inner torso with a taut, transparent membrane which delivers superior maneuverability.”
