I saw them on Conan the other night and didn't realize it was Sean Lennon. He's really found his wings.

I was at that show too, I didn’t realize it was 10 years ago- I was 16! It started an obsession with this band for a few years. Plus my ticket was- what? 25 bucks and tame impala wasn’t even the headliner haha

Midnight Sun is one of the best albums of 2014. Forget all comparisons and influences and personalities for 60 minutes. Listen to the music. It's incredibly sophisticated. Each melody is entirely unpredictable. The album is lush, full of sounds and sonic effects that are really utterly intriguing. The lyrics -- the only way to describe them is that they're closest to magic realism; cliches are turned on their ears, colloquialisms are used in ways that are totally original. Everything from composition to production is phenomenal. 99% of 2014's other artists could take a lesson from this achievement.

@HickeryHickery It really is. I mean, it's hard whenever you lose someone, but someone like a parent. And someone like John. But there is so much documentation of him, it must be lovely to be able to hear his Father singing, such beautiful songs. It's just sad that people think he is just "living in his Father's shadows". Many people like making music, music is universal!

@One2three4abc If you watch the interview with him, he said he used music as a way of feeling the void where his Dad left when he was killed. He isn't trying to be like him, he just likes music, and maybe it's a way for him to connect with his father who was taken from him.

@@christopherchuauhang4829 That's nonsense. He's pretty sloppy here. John was a great rhythm guitarist and would have made a nice tasteful easy solo. Listened one more time: nice singing, horrible guitar

The whole album would appear to be brilliant and the performances show serious dedication to getting it right and I'm thrilled by it; I don't get the people who keep claiming Sean sounds like John, though... very, very different voices. Compare John singing "I'm Only Sleeping" to Sean's performance here... not close at all (hint of nasal in both but radically different timbres). Also, Charlotte KM is a HUGE part of the sound

Sean knows his instrument well. He uses lots of unusual chord shapes much like his father. He does tend more to the chromatic though and his melodies tend to follow his chord progression more closely than his fathers style. Just some similarities and differences between the two that I have noticed.
