I recently went past Glenferrie Oval and it angers me to see the ground abandoned by Hawthorn. The Ferguson stand has been pulled down. That horrible weightlifting centre was built and Hawthorn is about to build the Dingly complex. How about paying homage to the ground. How about doing what Collingwood has done at Victoria Park!!! Fix it up, do up the entry at Linda Cres. Reopen the Hawthorn office of the Club instead of being removed from the supporters. WHATS HAPPENED TO FAMILY DAY EACH MARCH??? Come on Hawthorn! Mate, where did you find that amazing photo Linda Cres side. I’ve been in touch with Dan Eddie re a new book regarding the merger. Amazing history. Very sad to see the neglect! Somethings got to be done about it! Ps - The Glenferrie Pool end outer terrace took in a large amount of the crowd being quite deep. There was an entrances that end.

Brings back many memories..... My father started taking me to the football in the mid 50's....We sat in the outer, near the railway tracks, and there was timber seating there.... Hard ground to win at, and l remember it was Ron Barassi's first game as captain/ coach of Carlton... The Blues won

The shift from local suburban football grounds to the newer stadiums was a real culture change for us fans and I'd imagine for the players. Thanks for putting this together, Glenferrie was a bit before my time.

Well done 👏👏 It's wonderful to see someone spend the time making some videos of this historic ground, in particular the Michael Tuck Stand. I actually live just a few minutes walk from there and spend a lot of time over there, reminiscing and enjoying the open spaces. I agree, it's hard to imagine the crowds they used to cram in. What I've found hard to believe is in the six years I've lived there, Boroondara Council have had that wonderful Tuck Stand fenced off to the public when it really isn't in too bad condition as far as letting people sit up there. That other old stand has always been an eye saw but it's only recently they've finally started work on a revamp of the whole area, including renovating the Tuck Stand and where the old stand was will become a grassed picnic area etc. Keep up the good work, I'm really enjoying it 👍

Through the first half of the 1960s i went to most grounds, all grounds except Glenferrie... Could have but cant remember... But that was a big thing to go to these "strange lands". I definitely remember the terraces on the tv and the grandstand. Watch football up until about 2011 but cant stand it any more... If all you know is sht you are impressed by the best of the sht... And this is coming from some one who attended 9 GFs from 1964 to 1990. Nice visit, thanks

Went to about 6 games there late 60s, early 70s. Let's just say it was an "experience" Basically, it was a shithole. Seemed every time I went there it was raining, and the ground often rivalled Moorabbin as just an absolute bog. They were hard to beat there too. More than 20,000 crowd and it felt like a sardine can. Always stood on the Linda Crescent side. Was odd as just over the fence you had houses so close to the ground and I'm sure quite a few Sherrins landed in amongst Grans prized roses :) Made the fatal mistake of once watching from the train track side. Seemed like one went past every 5 minutes and it would drive you nucking futs ! Lot of the smart ass train drivers always blasted the bloody horn too. Remember the day Hudson did his knee, I was on a train which went past, think they were playing (thrashing) Dees from memory. But no fond memories of that joint from me. But it was fairly close to home then and not as feral as Windy Hill or that hell hole in Collingwood. Great video though mate, you should do a few more like it. You could be the new Attenborough of old suburban grounds 😀

Cheers mate. Will definitely head to a few more grounds. I vaguely remember going to the ground in the last year (1973) with my mum and dad. We stood on the Linda Street side as well.

@@heathbuck426 ..........yeah it seemed no matter where you watched from you were so close to the action. They were a tough, rough n ready side in those days. Quite a few "pretty" cfc players didn't enjoy playing there. Think you've created a monster niche market here Heath, some of these old grounds are great historical sites. You should definitely do Brunswick St oval, only went there once to see cfc play when very young. But a fantastic old venue. Junction Oval be a good one too, and yes I was actually at that 1971 fog game. Normal sunny day as game started, then at half time it just rolled in slowly but steadily. Was quite eerie. Should have been called off as that bloody surprise loss cost us a spot in the finals. Only 52 years, no I'm not bitter at all haha ! PS... keep up the great work mate, enjoy it :)

Possibly my favourite video you have done ever. Love the history of the old suburban grounds. I learnt two things 1) U19s played ath same time as the Seniors and our Home Ground for U19s was Glenferrie Oval. I had in my head you played at 9am in the morning. I remember in 86 my footy team visited Hawthorn at training leading into our Grand Final that week. Peter Russo gave us a pep talk. I remember looking at Johnny Platten thinking, shit I’ve still got a chance to make it being a short rover myself. Never saw a game there (before my time) but after watching this I can just imagine exactly what it would have been like. Thanks for this and all your great content.

Thanks for sharing mate. For us young Tassie boys, the G was the holy grail and you only saw it on channel 7. The highlight for us was going to KGV to watch Glenorchy, Hobart Domain to watch the Tigs, Boyer to see New Norfolk, The Bay to see Sandy Bay, Bellerive to see Clarence. North Hobart or Artic park as I called it was considered the heart of Tasmanian football. Each place holds special memories with North Hobart being the best. I can still recall 1990 being there in the wet area finding coins on the ground as blokes punched on pissed as we beat the big V. Special memories.

There use to be an old weatherboard house right behind the club rooms in the carpark out the back. It’s been demolished now but I believe that it use to be the old greens keepers house. Me and 2 other mates lived there for 12 months between 2009-2010 when we were 18. Absolutely loved it and this video has brought back some great memories 👍🏻👍🏻

Great video Bucky. I first went to Glenferrie Oval about 25 years ago. I was from SA and it really surprised me that such a famous and successful club like Hawthorn had these facilities. It was worse than most SANFL clubs. It was clear that all the money the club had was going towards player payments and not renovating. Anyway, I was in awe to be at this venue and the late great Graham Arthur met me at the club to show me around the oval, the grandstand, the social club and the Hawks museum. It was so fascinating and I was so excited to be shown around by Hawthorn’s first premiership captain. Since then I’ve been there a few times for family Days and post GF days. Lots of good memories so thanks for the video.

It's funny you say that, because despite other grounds such as Vic Park, Arden St and Windy Hill having far worse reputations for danger and violence, the only times l ever saw fights in the outer were at Princes Park, and both times the same group of Geelong lunatics were at the heart of it. And l remember a guy named Robert Dickson, who was whacked and fell back hitting his head, which killed him, in the early 80s.
@peterhayward1553

@@hanajinks1044 yes, I was at PP when Robert died. I was at the other end of the ground though. In the 80s when I could go to PP without Mums approval I used to go with a couple of ex policemen. Back in the day you had to be pretty big and scary looking to get in the police force and even though they were Fitzroy supporters I used to feel very safe ar PP with them around. PP was a very scary place to go and stand in the outer. Up there with VP. Moorabbin was another one you needed eyes in the back of your head for.
