While this was thoroughly entertaining it has so many plot holes and contrivances it works better as comedy really **SPOILERS BELOW** 1)First off the bad guy pretends the feud is over and gives his enemy the most horrible picture imaginable as a gesture of reconciliation, wtf? 2)The family decides to put it on prominent display instead of quietly stuffing the ghastly thing into a closet and forgetting about it/burning it 3)Then when the bad guy dies he has his son somehow break into the house, find the picture, fit a 3 foot space behind it and inter his fathers coffin in that space without anyone being the wiser 4)When the ghoul starts working on the father he promptly decides its a family curse and demands his son not tell anyone, because hey, why would you want to warn your kid about the family curse? I mean they might actually be able to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT if you did that! 5)And then in the centuries after no-one EVER takes the picture down to clean it, discovering the coffin 6)Not one member of the family moves abroad or just decides to live elsewhere in the country and avoids the curse 7)All of them "do their duty" by keeping the secret (because look how well that works out for the previous generation) 8)And not a single one ever thinks that maybe that hideous old portrait OF A GHOUL might have something to do with the curse when it strikes them Really though, I loved this story! It was just so silly!

“Suspension of disbelief” is a real thing, often enjoyed by the “believers” so they can emotionally engage in the fervor of the [this]story. Often times, honor & disgrace go hand in hand down the path of pride’s foley. To use Tarot as metaphor, the Fool’s Journey is the Joker card; there is a fool/child & it is entertainment to watch the Tower fall; of course, in the telling of the narrative Wisdom comes from a True-Lover’s Fellowship, employing Courage/Strength to Chariot through the MASSIVE MESS of IGNORANCE’s Bliss; and, finally, Star’s in alignment with the Sun & Moon represent the fully INTEGRATED [Adult]Magician who with the Hierophant/Hermit, Emperor/Empress, High Priestess’s Knowledge the Fool becomes the Hero by KNOWING the DEVIL on the outside IS the Devil inside; Temperance/Grace for self offers environmental/communal Justice; therefore, The Wheel of Future Fortune may turn only if the Devil is defeated & defamed not by ignorance but by be:coming the WISE ONE who follow’s the Star within- guidance is Lovers as Teachers whereby intelligence is put to good use & a journey to the path of Abundance in all seasons (winter, spring, summer, fall; fire, water, air, earth; pentacles, cups, swords, & wands; diamonds, hearts, spades, clubs); this is the story path of the human experience. All that said, it is true, that in REAL LIFE “suspension of disbelief” leaves big gaping voids of capitalizing on one’s personal/communal capabilities. So, I think your points are definitely VALID, but the demarcation between reality & “artificial intelligence”/make belief/story seems a bit ignorant of the fact of the matter: this is a story about GHOULS…@least our Hero/Heroine/Lover’s UNITED are not divided by Death. 😊💬💭💚📚🪄🖼️📖🪩♠️♥️♣️♦️♻️♾️⚠️🆔🕉️

Spoiler alert below! I believe I missed something, but the other residents of the household won't leave me alone long enough to re-listen. So the body of the painter had secretly been placed into a hidden room inside the home of the family's sworn enemy? Did I miss something? Or was this psychically undead corpse inside a hidden space behind the canvas?
