I was a teen during the msn era and that was a very scetchy time. The way ppl talked n behaved is quite different from today where ppl r more aware of trolls, bots, filters and just generally more critical towards ppl and their agendas. I was pretty stupid as a teen and with all the hormones and excitement of having a boyfriend at that age that can cloud your mind and make you more blind to things, I can't rly blame them for being fooled. Also it was normal to take selfies like that, showing only parts of ur face (like those iconic emo myspace pics), being a little mysterious not showing your whole life on social media etc. I think most ppl have been trolled in some way at some point in their life. There are two fascinating things about this story. The first is how on earth Gemma managed to pull this off in the first place. When you think about it, the scam was quite sophisticated for a young girl to pull off. Yet in other ways, she was quite naive because as the reporter said, after she assaulted that girl, she could simply have had her male egos disappear and the police would most likely never have guessed what happened. But she doubled down on it, admitting to an assault, and then made it worse by claiming an asault happened to her real self and claimed compensation for it. That seems to be at odds with the cleverness of the con that she managed to pull off. The other fascinating thing is that the girls were so naive. If it had been in the 70s this happened, I could quite understand it. I was very naive in those days as a teenager. But this is the 2,000s and girls now and then, were quite wordly wise in general. Also the fact that "Connor" did not speak ever but communicated via text. That is the most bizarre thing but it appeared to be acceptable to this girl. Also that the girls didn't recognise that it was their friend. I don't think any of my friends at that age could have disguised themselves to the extent that I could not recognise them.

But, you think all of these things might be linked, and they were all part of her plan? I can't say that this idea had occurred to me at all. Worth remembering that these young vulnerable girls were conned & sexually assaulted by a very disturbed individual. We can all speculate on what they shouldn’t/should have noticed or done, but that’s simply victim derogation at its worst. They were children who shouldn’t have been put in this situation in the first place & it wasn’t their fault that they were.

Yeah, I like it tbh, I really like Jessica and her matter of fact attitude. People need to know this shit, Gemma is capable of a lot more than she was charged for etc. The manipulation and brain washing went so deep, and she learned things about them, to use it against them or to manipulate them, like Jessica saying about her brother having alopecia so she could relate to 'him' not showing his head etc. It's fricken terrifying tbh!

I wonder if Jessica could have autism. It would explain her not recognising that it was the same person. Autistic people can pay close attention to detail but miss the bigger picture. She mentions noticing her teeth, which is a sign of that. It would also explain her general naivety and vulnerability in this situation
@amandakate49512 ай бұрын
hmm, do you think Alice did too? Alice knew Gemma for 2 yrs & also didn't recognise 4 people were 1 person in different outfits. The only person who is confirmed as autistic is the offender Gemma.
@NotAnotherKuromi19 күн бұрын
@@amandakate4951Yes often autistic people make friends with each other. Autistic people are also more likely to have face blindness. As well as being naive and being more vulnerable to believe lies. yeh, when she explained to her pal Connor was abusing her but 'then it would come out' that Connor had been at home & Luke had dressed up as Connor, come to her house as Connor (without her realising it was Luke no Connor) & assaulted her. I also found it weird when she realised it was sus when she saw the profile during the night she was 'OMG that's Aaron' but this had taken 6 months, and she'd not clocked Luke & Connor & Aaron & Gemma were all the exact same person in different clothing... despite multiple times having believe Luke had come to her house dressed as Connor, tricked her to think it was Connor then assaulted her...but the night she saw the side profile, she was 'OMG Aaron!'

I am horrified by this. I feel really anxious thinking of this level of deceit, involving young girls. The main girl seems neglected, they mentioned she moved in with her grandma at 14. The grandma was probably too old and behind about online interactions and the modern dating world.
