Due to the constant need to forcefully exhale, glassblowers and jazz musicians can develop exceptionally enlarged cheeks. Excessive pressure on the cheeks causes them to over-expand, potentially leading to loosening of the buccinator muscle, which is one of the muscles of the cheeks. It is primarily involved in actions such as blowing and sucking, and it helps to manage the air pressure inside the mouth. Practicing proper technique and taking regular breaks to rest the muscles can help manage the condition.

Not all jazz musicians play that way. It's "poor form" to do so. The majority of musicians hold their embouchure correctly, which is keeping the facial muscles tight. I have experience in playing jazz as well as symphonic music.

That's why with instruments, we learn to keep our cheeks in and only use our lungs, not mouth

No. They suck in, not blow out. But they do tend to have stretch marks in the corner of their mouths.

It's not a disease but a well flexed muscle?

A weak and damaged muscle and damaged stretched tissue. You don’t have to puff your cheeks out. If you kept your buccinator muscles contracted, as many brass players are trained to do, this won’t happen to you and your face muscles will be actually strong.

But why?? Who's blowing air with the or cheeks? You blow air with your lunge
@swifter46ter
@swifter46ter Ай бұрын
For musicians especially, they do something called cyclic breathing. Once their lungs empty, they blow the air stored in their mouth, while refilling their lungs at the same time. Done right, they can sustain a note for up to several minutes.
