Bill Finegan at 16 yrs old was a trumpet player with Glenn when the band started in '37 , I knew Bill and his wife Rose (my voice teacher for 5+ yrs), in the late 70's to early 80's Bill was one of the greatest jazz writers and arrangers that ever lived, I've always felt honored to have known him personally for over 20 yrs.I'm still in touch with his son Jamie who is a writer arranger and teacher at Fairfield University in Fairfield,CT. It was bittersweet. I had a Dad who loved all kinds of music so I grew up with being exposed to all genres. He immediately went out to buy the Beatles music at EJ Korvettes in West Islp NY when they first came to NY. See them if you ever get a chance. This music is 80 years old

I've shopped at that Korvette's store back in the 70's until they closed the doors. I lived in Lake Ronkonkoma, and Holbrook. Sad to say,, between taxes and over-crowding (crime!) I moved away to North Carolina where I've NEVER felt safer, and happier for going on ~20 years!~ But,,, I miss of course ....... NY bagels, pizza, and good Chinese food! LOL! As for this luxurious music,, I had a little deeper connection to it as my uncle Sal was a professional jazz/swing drummer and played as ~smooth as a Swiss watch~ ! He played drums at the 1939 ~Worlds Fair~ in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens. They had an exposition of the first television cameras! My uncle was used as model for the t.v. cameras to display on a bunch of television monitors all along the viewing hall. He was simply nuts for Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, and Lionel Hampton!!! God Bless!!! Sonny.

I was quite lucky to have grown up hearing this music. Thanks so much for uploading this version of the GM Orchestra! I've heard two other versions in person. Wonderful! Dan

Roger, I’m quite a bit younger than you and recently went to see the Glenn Miller Orchestra near me. I’m only going on 21 but haven’t listened to a single song past 1969 in a decade; nothing but 1940s Big Band and 1950s vocal groups. Your parent’s music may be becoming more obscure by mass media’s standards, but never doubt that us young people won’t carry it on. There’s some of us who this is all we like and I’d rather put a tie on and listen to Glenn’s music than whoever is popular these days. Kid you not, i don’t know nor care who it is.
