In the same vein as The Last War, people interested in the Weird War I sub-genre might be interested in Silburn-Slater's A War Transfromed as well. I think it sits well between these two.

I'm all in on Trench Crusade. I'm using it as an excuse to pick up some old Warmachine minis that I liked the look of, but had no practical use for. I'm taking New Antioch ( the "standard military" faction), and using Cygnar Trenchers for Yeomen, Mercenary Steelheads as Shock Troopers, and Khador Man-O-Wars as Mechanized Heavy Infantry. With an olive drab paint scheme, they fit in TC perfectly.

Gonna have to get Last War. All the Forbidden Psalm line I've played so far have been awesome fun

I do wish Trench Crusade had more artists working on the project. As you said, Punk Rock. Having more digital sculptors to model after Mike's art than there is variation in the art is a limiting factor that I personally don't enjoy. Would like to see the Adrian Smiths, Piotr Chrzanowskis, and Karl Kopinskis of the art world be part of the the KS budget

For me TC is a wonderful mix of art that really captures my imagination, and a version of mordheim made by a 20yrs more experienced Toumas. It's got about the same depth, and that's fine. I think you're right about the trajectory of the game - I see it like mordheim and the subsequent releases for that. I wouldn't be surprised it this just becomes a side project for the artists concerned, and they drop a couple of things a year, and that would be great.

I played the beta several times and it was fine I enjoy the art and theme way more than anything else tbh. But The Last War yes... I personally love the Forbidden Psalm series of games 👌🏻 as far as Trench Crusade KS I didnt back it mainly because it wss super expensive for the digital files and as someone who gets stuck deep into things hard... Having many options to use (partly from ADHD I think) it was very very expensive for just digital files. I think they were around the same orice or more than Aeon Trespass Odyssey a massive boardgame that I love and would be stuck in it for 100s of hours and very repayable on top of that one single play though. Just going to kitbash stuff for TC I was using proxy models I had until rules were fully out.

I had been considering Tge Last War for some time, and was surprised to find it on the shelf of a Not-Quite Local FGS last weekend. Horsy for impulse purchases! I’m rooting through my bits boxes even while listening to this!

ngl i was really looking forward to you covering this. Not sure TC needs hype lol. But yeah its skirmish and kitbash and is very much my jam. Last war looks really interesting too. I keep missing the Patreon streams like a peasent.

Guess we can hopenfor more factions and mercs really. The story and models are cool glad armor is actually useful unlike mordheim. I got new Antioch otw pretty excited to paint them and convert some more guys. And the people saying this is more grimdark then 40k haven't read 40k novels or get their lore from tik tok.

Nice. Trench Crusade hasn't really hit the mark for me, but I keep looking at The Last War. I'm still hooked on Quar and Silver Bayonet and struggle with getting into another Skirmish. I'll probably get the rules from DriveThru and pick up some sprues and see how it goes.

The whole Forbidden Psalm series are great! I love them. There are also several third party mini and full expansions for the games and the creator is dropping new content every month now on DrivethruRPG

I really don't get the Trench Crusade hype. Their minis are awesome, no doubt, but the game itself just seems so incredibly un-interactive. It feels like I'll put my stuff on the table and pack it all up in 15 minutes after the game is over. Whenever I do anything the opponent just rolls their own dice that I can't interact with, and vice versa. We roll dice at each other until our 7 models are taken off with rolls that are just slightly above average to remove. That just doesn't seem fun to me. I played the pre-release rules a couple times, and that held true, unless I've massively misunderstood something. Are people really looking to spend hours preparing and painting minis and terrain just to be done with it so quickly? Maybe I'm just not the target audience, but I'd love to see a second ruleset with more crunch.

"Are people really looking to spend hours preparing and painting minis and terrain just to be done with it so quickly?" - that's litterally what historical games are all about. The time you play is just a small amount of time vs the time you spend documenting, building, painting, making the models / table. But you're right, it's an overestimated hype. The game in itself is nothing special. It's just an excuse to start a new project with new miniatures / terrain and have fun while doing it, that's all.

"Are people really looking to spend hours preparing and painting minis and terrain just to be done with it so quickly?" That's the entire ethos behind #28; it's foremost an excuse to kitbash cool and unique stuff. It's fine if that's not your thing, but the games created by and for that community do put that mentality front and forward.
@tinyfishhobby3138Күн бұрын
How is that any different from Warhammer? 40k is exactly the same except that you and your opponent both interact only with your own dice for three hours and then you pack up and go home.
@scannerbarkly23 сағат бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean by this bit "Whenever I do anything the opponent just rolls their own dice that I can't interact with, and vice versa." It seems to me like you have very much misunderstood the rules, especially around Blood and Blessing markers?
