All the mods were from the JC Whitney catalog and the cruise control I installed was from Sears. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 It was the model with the big rear glass door with the rear seats that would fold down. 😎 There is a story behind how my Father found out how I utilized that big 3rd door........................ @@gregorymalchuk272 A different intake and a Weber carburetor with split headers split dual exhaust. I modified the distributor too but I don't remember what I did and I added a hotter coil. There was absolutely no pollution controls on the engine at all. I did connect some tubing to the exhaust to do a bit of a road draft set up for the valve cover. I did have with aftermarket clutch but that was only because I smoked the stock one.🤣 I was eating catfish with my cousin last night and he brought up all my old vehicles that he remembered. I made the comment that I'd like to have that Pinto again and he made the comment, " Really? do you think we'd still fit?"🤣 And that brought me back to how I was able to convince my Dad that I wanted a new truck. Mom and Dad had seen me, unknown by me, out driving the Pinto and Mom said to Dad, " Papa,🤣 don't you think the boy has outgrown the car?" I had everything all planned out of what I was going to say when I went to my Dad to tell him I wanted to buy a new truck. When I told him of what I wanted to do, all he said was O k!🤣🤣 I didn't have to use a thing that I had already pre planned!

This is pretty close to my own story, I have a 1980 Scout II Diesel that my dad bought brand new when I was about 9 months old. It was the family truckster for my entire childhood, was my first car, I even took my driving test in it at 16. It spent a few winters in the mid west so needed some rust repair but I restored it and still own it and drive it to this day and it is extremely special to me. This one is a non-turbo model so only would have had about 90HP and my understanding was that Scout II diesels were only available in 4 speed manual because the auto trans had too much HP loss, never heard of or seen an automatic Scout Diesel without the turbo.

It was a Herculean effort to order an International harvester . There were no packages , every item on the production order had to be chosen by the customer or the salesman , and if you did not have the build sheet it was almost impossible to order a part for the vehicle for you never knew what was installed
@stevelacker3582 ай бұрын
Actually, I call that “easy to order.” What’s hard is looking at what’s in each of the goofy “packages,” finding the options you want, then figuring out which ones you can sacrifice to avoid getting a bunch of garbage options you DONT want and can get your compromise in the minimum number of packages. That’s difficult and usually very frustrating.

The Chrysler 727A/T was there Terminator. It in all the chargers, challengers(383, 440, 426 hemi's), then to the Dana 70 rear-end to get that horse power to rear wheel h p. I can't remember if the international engines had the same bell-housing as Chrysler. That's the only A/T(727) I remember international ever using, they had a pick-up line like the big-3. That used the same engines and 727A/T. My cousin Kenny C. Bought his 1975-76 IH 4366 4WD tractor, 466DT, 30.5-32" w/ 18.4-38" Dwls. The international Dealer in Smithville, Mo. was giving away a Scout, when you purchased this 4wd tractor. He declined and took the amount of the Scout off the total purchase price of the tractor. Which was good amount of money I believe. It was loaded 1976 Scout II Orange w/ wht. pin-striping, wht. Top, 4x4, 392v-8, 727a/t, CW w/ M\T. Not for sure if it had a/c or not. If they offered it it had it. Kenny passed away this year Aug.05(92), a month and 25 days before his 93rd birthday. Missing his 80th Harvest after him and his parents(Cam & Helen C.) started Crabtree Farms. Now at least he will have better view to watch over the day to day operation and I'm sure he's telling his dad, uncles, cousins and grandpa Charlie what it was like to run those 570hp JDtrack tractors w/ 62' cultivators that cost $750T. Until that day Kenny.

Old Mack trucks used to have a cable pull to shut the air off to kill it. Would work, even if it was trying to run away with the it self.
@rogergoodman86652 ай бұрын
27 year Mack truck mechanic here, the cable your referring to was called the "engine stop" or "engine shutdown" cable (depending on manufacturer) and it did not shut off air flow to the engine, rather it did the same thing that this International does...it pulls back a lever on the side of the injection pump and blocks diesel fuel from entering the injection lines. This is why the engines shut off when pulling the lever. You could however "choke down" a diesel that was "running away" (because of a stuck open injection pump) by blocking its air supply but that only would work if the hood was up and you could completely cover the main opening on the air intake housing. Some guys used to throw cut down old heavy thick blankets or a welding blanket over the opening, but I had a 2 foot by 2 foot piece of plywood with old shag carpet nailed to it to choke down and save a diesel from spreading its parts all over the shop floor. All diesels with manual shutdowns could potentially "run away", but Deteoit Diesels with external fuel racks were "notorious" for running away, (especially if it sat for a while) climbing to over 4k rpm's before rapid uncontrolled disassembly occurred. If you could not shut it down or run away quickly, the only thing you could do was to kiss the concrete floor that was usually very far from being clean to avoid being hit and possibly seriously injured when that Detroit started throwing internal parts at you.
