Retsu Unohana was the first "Kenpachi". "Kenpachi" is the title given to the supposed strongest soul reaper at the time passed down throughout the captains of the 11th division. Unohana was Retsu's name, "Kenpachi" is the title that was passed down to Zaraki, the current captain of squad 11 that we're all familiar with. Hope this helps.

​@@pitoseavy4523 Unohana resigned her title a long time ago, if you watched or read the manga it was given to another captain as the strongest Zanjutsu user at the time whom Zaraki won over. It wasn't until tybw she took up the mantle of going back to her old title which meant she had to fight Zaraki for the title "kenpachi". The title is based on strongest Zanjutsu fighter.. not the strongest Kido or Zanpakuto user (this is why squad 11 looks down on kido users, and such because they are melee fighters). If Unohana didn't heal Zaraki (she was trying to harness his potential) he would have been dead in the first round in the Muken, the only closest to the level of Zanjutsu outside of Unohana and Zaraki is yamamoto and Kyoraku whom both rely heavily on their zanpakuto or kido in order to perform, Unohana doesn't need zanpakuto or kido powers to slice up a person in 2 seconds which every other captains in Bleach do.. Its like comparing Yoruichi to Aizen, in Hakuda and Shunpo yoruichi is leagues better than Aizen, but in just power and spiritual pressure (thanks to hogyoku, etc) Aizen is overall stronger and has artifically boosted himself to another level, but he is not better in those era of expertise which is why characters like Yoruichi has the title "goddess of flash" or Tenjiro pre-squad 0 was known as "lightning fast Tenjiro" because they were the fastest in Shunpo during their time in Soul society.

Because whoever worked on the subtitle translation on the website she’s watching this episode on didn’t do the best job at accurately copywriting what was said. What Isane was supposed to say is “You inherited Unohana’s title” but it was worded weird in this particular streaming service as “the name of Unohana” it is frustrating why they would cause confusion like that

A damsel in distress is a tired, overused trope of a helpless female character whose main role is to sit around, do nothing, and wait to be rescued. She has no real agency, no impact on the plot beyond motivating the hero to save her, and no skills or power to function without someone holding her hand. A true damsel doesn’t move the story forward-she only serves as a plot device. Rukia, however, is the exact opposite. She’s the one who kickstarts Bleach by giving Ichigo her powers, setting the entire plot into motion. From the start, she’s an active influence, not a passive character waiting for others to act. And unlike a damsel, Rukia is a highly trained Shinigami who fights with skill and grit. She’s constantly growing, from the Soul Society Arc all the way to unlocking her Bankai in the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc. Yes, she needs backup occasionally, but that doesn’t make her helpless-it makes her a realistic, well-rounded character in a world where even the strongest need allies. Saying she can't do anything on her own is so dumb. She one-shot Fracción, defeating one of Grimmjow’s subordinates all on her own. Rukia took on Aaroniero, solo. Even severely injured, she still defeats him, and even before he was released, she was holding her own against him. She used her strategic skills to take down Rudbornn and his soldiers, coming up with her own plan and executing it flawlessly. She one-shot As Nodt with her Bankai, and even before she was saved by Byakuya, she effortlessly defeated him in his base form. So before throwing around “damsel in distress,” understand that it doesn’t just mean ‘a character who needs help sometimes.’ It’s a trope about a passive, helpless character who exists only to be rescued. Rukia is anything but helpless. She constantly holds her own in battle, actively drives the story, and has one of the strongest growth arcs in the series. She fights, she overcomes, and she grows. Just because she needs help now and then doesn’t make her a damsel-it makes her a warrior who knows when to fight alongside her allies. You're muted.
