I'm sure comment section will be normal about it lmao. All I'm going to say, that without meta-information, outside of obvious origin characters who you can clearly see as options to play during character creation, you're not supposed to know who are your potential allies/companions/camp followers could be, because it would certainly affect your roleplaying choices that are presented to you by DM. In this case, you freed Sazza, she told Minthara about the grove, so the raid was inevitable, and you made your RP choice accordingly. Also, they should probably remove that camp supplies, alchemy and clothing, but I know why they don't - to fill you with doubt about potential and choices that you make, but also curiosity about what might happen if you make a different choice
@unfreespirit3 ай бұрын
I even think the game should warn you about potential spoilers before you look at the origin characters during your first character creation. Figuring out the motivations of your companions in conversations adds to the story. Obviously you can't blame people for looking at it since it's right there in character creation.

I think you threaded the needle with the "sticking to your choices" thing about as well as you can/could. As you say, there's going to be content missed no matter what because every choice you make, there's an unmade choice on the other side, you can only have 3 companions with you at a time and even if you try and swap, there's just no way for everyone to be present for every meaningful/cool moment, some of which is just a cool joke or lil comment and some of it is pretty in depth but there's no way of knowing etc. It's a really long game as well of course, I'd say you're still scratching the surface of the iceberg.

I'm still amazed at the amount of outcomes possible in this game... Let's just say my exploration of the camp turned into a bloodbath fairly quickly, despite trying my best at convincing the goblins I was on their side (but not really). Just because my dice rolls were not great I had to resort to tricks and eventually ran out of luck. Because I didn't tie up loose ends either before rampaging through the whole camp, it made a significant difference to what you've seen in your playthrough. And yet, the story seems to progress flawlessly for us both. It must have been a nightmare to design such a game, making sure any outcome basically leaves the opportunity to progress one way or another. And it makes you want to replay it all!

To clarify how the surprise mechanics work so you can use the Assassin subclass at it’s peak, you surprise enemies if you hit them while undetected *inside their detection radius,* which means your character either has to pass a stealth check to hide and walk into their view to attack or attack from invisibility. Doing this correctly though, especially in unavoidable fights that can be detected with scouting and not moving ahead too fast, will allow your assassin to decimate the biggest threat in combat before anyone has had a turn and easily stealth kill isolated enemies to dwindle entire camps one by one. The stealth mechanics in Baldur’s Gate are unrivaled.

2:08:50 My ruling is, Game Overs are not against the honor choice rules, because they are not voluntary. Going back after Game Over, is essentially a parallel reality. So things are allowed to happen differently. Because if you were forced to repeat your actions from the previous save for “honor” reasons, then you’d be in an infinite loop of failure. Change has to occur either way, may as well run with the option of it. Edit: Also, it’s your game. You have to do what’s fun for you. If You want to try for Minthara, that’s your option. Maybe, in this parallel reality after Game Over, your character has some insight about her he didn’t have in a reality where he failed.

I assume you forgot that you had a horn to summon ogres. Well, they thank you for your money and are probably not entirely displeased that they didn't have to do anything in exchange for it. S[oplers about Minthara below this: Yes. Minthara can be a companion. In fact if you help her attack the druid grove she automatically becomes one. It's also possible to recruit her even if you side against her although it's a little more complex. She's also romanceable. Some are useful like the trader you can get in your camp. There are more companions - not just people who'll join your camp but ones who will adventure with you. Some are very hard to spot. Basically you need to start the fight with Minthara without making her permanently hostile - most easily by attacking one of her goblins. Then you beat her down using non-lethal damage to knock her out rather than kill her. Do that and leave, and somewhat later you can find her being punished for her failure at the Goblin Camp. Rescue her and she'll jjoin your party. And incidentally if you looted her, she's naked.

Some of them you might kill during your playthrough and since this is not a stupid Bethesda game they are not unkillable you will not even know. Happens A LOT if you roleplay =)
@luminemo3 ай бұрын
There's really no reason to use non-lethal damage in the Goblin camp unless you know about sparing Minthara, especially it being important that you defeat the three leaders. Because I know about it I kind of headcanon that my party didn't notice that she wasn't dead and so they just left her (even after looting her lol). Your party is still lower level so they don't have all the fancy abilities but some concentration spells especially can be good at giving you advantage over enemies and thus your chance to hit is better. But even then your party will just have bad rolls 🥲

looting minthara is a clear bait for a 2nd playthrough. This game is full of replay idea around every corner but that is one of the biggest one

Don't worry about the choice to take out the camp. "EVIL, MEET SWORD. SWORD, MEET EEEEEEEEEEEEVIL!"

I do wish there were more evil companions honestly. Some of the origins can be made evil, others cant/dont really act it m. Would be cool to have more just fully evil characters to swap in

I restarted my first playthrough once I realized that I had both missed Minthara AND managed to make Lae'zel permanently aggro and unrecruitable. Respect to Mapo however for sticking to his guns. I was too impatient to wait for a second playthrough!

At the beginning of game Minthara was only available as evil play through whoever they made it possible(with a patch) just to knock her out and she is a possible available companion later.

I also killed Minthara in my playthrough, except I didn't even connect the dots to realize she might be a potential companion. I was just confused as to why she had unique clothes on her... I am not smart.

I don't play this game, so I was just watching your gameplay as fresh as you do and I'm only here following your playthrough, so here's my thought about Minthara or all your companions in general: well, so far most of them really have some specific problem or agenda of their own, so I don't think it's that good to cast judgment on someone just because they are doing something wrong. Because imagine that on Karlach, at first we don't know that he is being forced to fight for a devil, so if you look at her without learning her story, you might also think he is just bad and needs to be dealt with, but no, we learn her story and so on. I think the way here is to give others a second chance, especially unique or boss characters; they just might be being forced to do bad things like karlach or astarion. I also think it's pretty common in DnD. And remember how you persuade Kagha to be good?. Lastly, I remember your words from Wyll and Karlach about being enemies to lovers, kind of think, so after realizing that Minthara is a possible companion, I felt really bad since you might be that "enemies to lovers" or "enemies to friends," no? PS: I knew I'm super late in this playthrough but I just can't to not comment on it lol

Don't feel bad about missing content and killing a potential companion, it's impossible to do all content in a single run because there's a lot of content locked between mutually exclusive choices. Missed content will be something for future runs

I also killed Minthara in my playthrough, but at release there was only one way to keep her alive without attacking the grove. And that way was also very non-intuitive.

Don't worry mapo, I didn't realize minty was a companion until much later myself, but I'm looking forward to including her in my party later!

The minthara thing is fine - u can have her but its tricky to keep everyone happy. Minthara is a companion but shes evil asf
