I watched ths movie for the first time a few weeks ago, i think the story itself is fine. My only issue is that i lost track of the names, since they all dress similar, i forgot who is who and their roles. I need to be focused when i watch this movie

The scene with Vito dying while he plays with his grandson absolutely destroys me every time. He's so young, and he doesn't even realize what's happening at first, he just thinks his grandpa's still playing... Pure innocence, so starkly contrasting with the violent nature of the family. THAT'S some god damn art.

Fun fact: Lenny Montana (Luca Brasi) was so nervous about working with Marlon Brando that in the first take of their scene together, he flubbed some lines. Director Francis Ford Coppola liked the genuine nervousness and used it in the final cut. The scenes of Luca practicing his speech were added later.

Epics of the 60s and 70s really knew how to end. Always something light. TE Lawrence watching a motor cycle pass by, Alec Guinness seeing the Balalaika in Dr. Zhivago, Steve McQueen in the cooler playing catch with himself, and the door being slowly closed in Kay Adam's face.

When mafia war began Michael pushed Kay away from him and his family. It was dangerous for her to get involved. He did it bc he loved her and cared about her. Kay was described in a book and portrayed in a movie as his dream, the only woman he loved with his heart. Michael and Kay are sitting at the table. Johnny Fontana walks in. He starts to sing --- I got but one heart---- Michael takes Kay's hand and says " Listen to a song " Song continues--- You are the only dream I pray it comes true-- Michael turns around and looks at Kay. Michael and Kay are walking down the street. They had just seen a movie. Music playing at the moment is Bells of St Mary..... it's a so g about two loves, true loves that will be reunited in autumn. After he committed murders he had to flee to Sicily. Months were passing by and song Speak softly love begins to play. Michael is thinking about Kay. He wipes the tear of his left eye. Don Tomassino's car pulls up Michael:" When can I come back home did Sonny say " Don Tomassino:" Sonny said your enemies know that you are in Sicily ".... He kept walking. He saw good looking chick filled in all the right places. He got eraction. He purchased her for a necklace. And practically killed her. He came home and offered himself to save the family. He was the only one left to do it. He waited more than a year to make sure it was safe, he made a plan to legitimize the business and than and only than he went to New England to get Kay, only woman he loved with his heart and cared about. When you see Kay with kids the song " Autumn " is playing. When Michael started declaring love for Kay song " New Godfather" is playing which is amazing bc Michael calls Kay his Don in a book " You are my Don " After his father told him " Women and children can be careless men can not be " he turned himself into a savage animal to protect Kay so what happened in Sicily wouldn't happen to a woman he actually loved. It was at that moment he decided to wack all the families so no mafia war would ever happen again. He operated his face bc of Kay He stood the godfather to Connie's kid bc of Kay In gf2 he murdered his brother bc of Kay and when he lost her he got diabetes, aged over night, stopped smoking drinking, never touched another woman for the rest of his life or took the ring of his finger

Michael didn't fall in love with Apollonia. Michael had thunderbolt. Thunderbolt is NOT romantic feeling which is why her father ran into his Cafe when he realized that chick filled in all the right places was his daughter . Thunderbolt is eraction, sexual arousal. Madness that strikes a man with blue balls and steal eraction. Or as Coppola said during commentary " This is NOT the prince speaking ".... while commenting moment when Michael spoke to old Vitteli.... It a vulgarity. A feeling of the body NOT heart, something that goes away after you taste it. Which is why he threatened to murder her father if he tells anyone about him hiding there. He didn't give a fuck if she knew he was a criminal coming from the mafia family, hiding from the police. He came into her house disheveled and with armed bodyguards He didn't come to speak to her or get to know her, he didn't even bother to say hello. He came to convince her to marry him. There is no sex before marriage in Sicily so to satisfy his desire he has to marry her. He made her an offer which she goldigger she was couldn't refuse . " Wedding was set up in two weeks bc she thought he was rich ".... that js a sentence from a book perfectly captured in a movie by Coppola to a detail. He never looked at her during wedding He never told his parents he met her, noone knew he got married. He never told her about mafia war or that she was in danger being attached to him at that moment. Right before he met her Don Tomassino had warned him " Your enemies know that you are in Sicily "..... they found him. Everybody knew he was in Sicily, noone knew where. Village circus of their wedding during which Michael was completely detached is how they found him, is how he killed her. He laughed at the idea that she wanted to be American wife. And than moved on as if she never existed.... Here is Michael after Apollonia died " ...( deleted scene) Pop, what about Sonny, what about Sicily. if we don't respond isn't family gonna be weak ". Not even mentioning her, not even saying her name let alone addressing her as his wife.... So, what about Sicily? Barzini tried to kill him but he got away... I wouldn't behave like that if a dog with flees died bc of me me instead of me. She was a chick he went after bc he needed it, bc he was certain he lost Kay forever..... deliberately put in danger for sex and moved on without even feeling quilty conciences. He didn't wish for her to die, when he realized that human being is gonna blew up he had a normal human reaction. And than just moved on...... because he didn't CARE

Its just an assumption but, I think its because, it was due to Paulie being "sick" that the Don Vito Corleone was killed.
