The Goldfields Museum looks really interesting, a portrait of 19th century social and economic history. However, I wasn't much impressed with Hannan Street (note it's not Hannah Street, as you spelled it in your description), it looked run down and abandoned, like everything was closed. Perhaps you visited at the wrong time. There are far more vibrant downtown areas of towns and cities in the United States. Two towns in Texas come to mind: San Antonio with its riverwalk right in the heart of the city, and Wichita Falls (NW of Dallas). But there are many, many more. Ultimately I feel the US has more to offer me than Australia, but both countries are also so different to each other.

I really liked Kalgoorlie and sadly it looks like the big retail parks are affecting the high street, just like in the UK. One of my favourite cities is New York which is very different. I am going to have to get myself to Texas and compare notes! The Goldfields Museum was brilliant and well worth a visit.
