How about taking a direct hit by a polar bear in your face and you're face or your skull will be crushed instantly by just one slap of a polar bear paws.
@rogueascendant66118 жыл бұрын
Rich Liv Whether it's a joke or not I still find it seriously an offensive meaning to the animals. Underestimating an animal strength is like you thought yourselves superior. Bears don't swipe to struck a blow that is a known fact there's a study which contains 4 biologist stated bears don't swipe, people mistaken it for swipe rather than pushing, shoving, scratch, slash, grabbing. People used the false document about bears decapitating a Moose's head which is in fact just an exaggeration. Yes you can get killed by the paw of the Polar bear via severing the jugular vein, killing via severing the vein doesn't require much force if you have sharp object like the Polar bear's claws. Most of the damage done by the bear is from the jaws not from the paws. Edit: Source ("Identifying sheep killed by bears" by David E. Griffel)

I don't understand why they changed the whole fight. This is exactly how it is told in the books. Still best episode so far imo
@trueblue62014 жыл бұрын
@@agustinaguero8163 1) For the setting, it was in the throne room because that makes it cheaper as they do not need multiple sets or cgi backgrounds. It also gives it a darker light which looked good for the fight (giving it a gritty quality). 2) For the armor, in the behind the scenes they say that the decision to fight without armor was done to show this fight as more of a ritual for the bears. In open combat they would wear armor. However in this ritual duel for leadership, they strip away the armor so it is bear to bear. It strips away the warfare aspect the armor would give to the fight and leaves just the animal. As a result the quality of the armor will not be of a benefit to either combatant. It is just the muscle and strength of the bears and not their armor. Which makes sense to want a leader who can be strong and function without aid of armor.(Not saying I completely agree with the decision to strip away the armor but I like the reason enough I won't fault them for it.) 3) As for the decision to hide the death blow, on that score I have no obvious answer at this time. The movie which was meant to be somewhat family friendly had it so I do not know exactly why they did not have it in the show. Maybe to show off further how good of an actress Dafne Keen is and emphasize how this would feel to a child? Beyond that I am not too sure.

@TheAkwarium4 жыл бұрын
I also thought the scene in the tv series was too short, I really wanted to see them fight, like REALLY fight. I must admit that Iofur’s death was… Well, I wasn’t expecting Iorek to give the canon death of eating his hot, still-beating heart, steaming against the icy air in front of the other bears… But a 2007 PG-13 film gave us a flying lower jaw and neck break, clear and center. Not blurry and literally behind Lyra’s back. And then they go and remove the bears armor too, that irritated the hell out of me. I can’t express the disservice this show has done to Iorek and Iofur and this fight. this fight was meant to show how inferior Iofur is compared to Iorek. it was meant to show that Iofur’s tacky gold armor was just for aesthetic purposes and couldn’t hold up against Iorek’s claws. To show that no matter how much Iofur boasted about his prowess he and his armor were no match for Iorek’s might. The palace was very beautiful and intimidating. I loved it. However my biggest, personal disappointment was Iofur was too bear-like, to the point where Iorek had to break the “show, don’t tell” rule in storytelling by saying Iofur was too human. I loved the mental image of Iofur sitting upright with a doll on his knee, pretending it was his dæmon. It’s just such a creepy, fascinating image. A bear so off his rocker, so delusional, that he’d resort to that. Even the film gave us a few seconds of that.

I was okay with her design in the movie (though she should have been blonde) but in the tv series she looks nothing like she's described in the books. At least she had long hair in the movie. In the tv series she looks like a character from a Peter Pan movie.

as a kid, i loved animal planet and the docs about the northern arctic were my fave! polar bears among my fave animals 🥰 when i watched this scene for the first time, my grandmother turned to me and said "don't worry polar bears don't fight in real life 🥺" "grandma, they literally crush baby seals to death and eat them"

booboodavila If you can't stand violence, then you've got to see the video game version of the fight on PS2. I have the game. No wonder Iorek is badass during fights.

I'm just here because of His Dark Materials on HBO. Loved the books, liked this movie when it came out. This scene is a nice little throwback to my youth

This movie does not get the praise it deserves. I’ve seen so many comments n such being like “The tv series is so much better” And that can be true to some extent but for me personally, I enjoy the film more. As someone who hasn’t read the books and only goes by the movie and the tv series I don’t get a full say in what should happen within the series and I can understand that. But to address the polar bear in the mud (Elephant in the room), I prefer the movies take on Iorek. I was anxious to see him in the tv series as I didn’t have a good first impression of him from the trailer. I’ve only just gotten past the episode in the series where he gets his armour back, and I have to say. That scene didn’t justify it for me. He is made out to seem like such an evil character and will kill like it’s nothing. He lacks the charm that the Iorek in the movie has and that’s one of the things that made him my favourite. Scenes like this fight makes this Iorek all the more badass while also showing that he can be caring, like how he got the need to win after seeing Lyra scared and being pushed by the other bears. (1:50) Conclusion, I prefer the film’s Iorek and he will forever be my favourite. Thank you for coming to my TED talk :) disclaimer: I DONT WANT TO START ARGUMENTS W/ PEOPLE I JUST WANTED TO STATE MY OPINION
