My sister and I grew up watching The Golden Girls and whenever we were going through tough times we would have a Golden Girl marathon. I don't know what is was about the women ,but it was magical and brought comfort to the both of us. Then, when each of them passed away 😢 we would go buy a cheesecake to honor their life for the years of laughter and memories they brought to us during our childhood and as adults 💖

I agree! She was a beautiful young woman whom grew into a statuesque very attractive woman as she aged. The show highlighted each of the characters most obvious traits as jokes, Blanche's promiscuity, Rose's air headed moments, and Dorothy's obvious target was her height and voice. She wasn't as feminine looking as the other two, so they went with it. Her hilarious dry sense of humor only added to the impression. Fans loved it, so they played on it heavily. But in reality she was always considered an attractive talented woman in Hollywood......she wasn't ever really considered ugly :)

@aDg 2k18 I think instead of doing Palace, they should have just kept the Golden Girls on and replaced Dorothy with someone else. I think the only reason it canceled was because Bea didn't want to do it anymore. There were all kinds of awesome actresses in their age group that could have filled out the foursome! They could have had Dorothy's sister Gloria come live with them, then you'd have still had the mother/daughter banter with Sofia! Dang, too bad they didn't ask our opinions when all this was going on. LOL

I found it almost too hard to tell who was who, in some of those early pictures. They looked SO YOUNG and very different. GG is still one of my favourite TV shows of all time. On cold winter nights, my mom and I used to watch it and fantasize about living in a nice house like theirs -- somewhere WARM!

The actual house exterior they showed was at 245 North Saltair Avenue, in Brentwood, Los Angeles, although there were exterior house shots used that were filmed in Orlando, Florida. The show itself was filmed on two different soundstages in Hollywood. From 1985 to 1987, it was at Columbia/Sunset Gower Studios, at 1438 N. Gower Street. And from 1987 to 1992, it was at Ren-Mar Studios at 846 N. Cahuenga Blvd..

I love The Golden Girls. My favorite was Blanche. Although Rue McClanhan was born in Oklahoma, she played a Southern vixen flawlessly. Her line about Tony Bennett leaving his shorts on her radiator is the funniest I've ever heard anywhere.

Even though Betty White was originally casted for the role of Blanche, Rue was the perfect choice. Even in her later Years in the Golden Girls you see, how beautiful she must have been as that young woman Blanche is always refering of, while she kept her grace and hat that unique smile.
