I played through this. I killed Rex. I found once you started accusing one of the characters of guilt, you couldn't really get out of it. Getting a bad ending is really easy, which I guess makes sense, since you are fighting an evil entity in game. I was kind of expecting the detective to be the Rippleman, guiding you on your path to kill the influencers, but it didn't turn out that way.

I feel like the franchise peaked at the first Simulacra. Sara is Missing was more of a tech demo than anything - barely any “lore”, minimal choices and character interaction, poorly written, etc. But it introduced key concepts that, in my opinion, were used very well in Simulacra. It’s not a perfect game - far from it - but it was engaging, immersive, and genuinely creepy at points. It had goofy elements - especially with Taylor - and retained some of the edginess from Sara is Missing, but overall I found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable experience that played on the concept well. Pipe Dreams was... well, it was something, that’s for sure. I’d go as far as to say that it was bad. But at the same time, it obviously had a message it wanted to send about free mobile games, and it was free, and the lorehunt aspect of the game was interesting (QR codes? Who does that in a game? Apparently these guys, and I like it) so it’s fine. Simulacra 2 here felt like it tried to blend the immersiveness and mystery of 1 with the campiness of Pipe Dreams, and it just... doesn’t work, I don’t think. This is definitely better than Pipe Dreams, but I don’t know if it’s even worth $5. Sara is Missing may have lacked a lot of features and may have been horrendously edgy, but it still felt more fun than this. I hope they try to turn back to the realism of Simulacra 1 and improve on that, rather than appeal to... whatever audience this appeals to. I appreciate them experimenting more, but it works best when it feels like you, yourself, have the phone, and it feels like you’re talking to real people. Sim 1 was the closest it got to that. I’m interested in what they do next, but if it’s anything like this or Pipe Dreams then I’m going to be majorly disappointed. The guys here are talented, and the concept has potential. It just feels like they keep on missing it. Note that I played the game and got a bad ending, where Rex gets kinda screwed over. It’s actually creepy to see what happens (spoiler: his face gets torn open in the pattern that makes up Maya’s scars) but the build up was not worth the payoff there. Although Who You Messin’ With is the best thing to come out of any video game, ever, so at least we have that

Gotta say, over the years, I've grown to appreciate these games more. Less like the actual gameplay but just the acting of the characters. All of their games give the vibes of a bunch of theater kids and game devs teaming up to put these together and i kinda love it. Do you know how hard it probably was for Rex's actor to keep in character while doing the Rex Rap? I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face. I think they all did a good job conveying just how cringey and manipulative these "influencers" can be. This has clearly been a passion project for the devs, even if the games aren't always great, i still enjoy seeing the story and learning about the people.

I have to say, if there's anyone in this game I could possibly root for, it's Arya. Rex scams desperate people out of the last of their money, Mina gained money and fame from real pain that didn't belong to her. What did Arya do? She's a bit cold and overly businesslike, but her "big dirty secret" in this game doesn't even compare to the others. She pretended to be sponsored by a makeup brand and then proceeded to harm them by...giving them a bunch of free compliments and publicity? Rachel even said, if it were up to her she would just laugh it off and take the free advertising. Arya is really the only redeemable character in the group

The mystery solving mechanics in these games are great, imho, but the story hasn't felt "right" since Simulacra 1. Sara is Missing was a fascinating introduction to the concept behind these games but after Simulacra 1 the stories seem to swing wildly between "silly humor" and "supernatural spooks" - possibly because of the dev team behind its production. I love a good international horror story but these have some pacing and plot problems. All that aside, I do enjoy their social commentary on internet culture and human desire, and more than that I enjoy your reactions and getting to watch you solve their puzzles. I think Arya thought she was gonna become an ambassador and made a video in advance, but then she uploaded it and embarrassed herself. Pretty minor if you asked me, not worth the hate but I know how the internet is. Why is Arya freaking out when she refused to delete the video? Are the sassy comments towards the gang a hint that The Rippleman is in the phone? At 40:00, Harshly Lyrical's looking real different these days...The detective had no problem with you "fraternizing" when you were getting info, now he's mad because the info isn't what he assumed!? Now a pyramid scheme is worth getting canceled over. It's so funny because I thought Rex looked like an evil Jacksepticeye, and then you made him Irish! Also, I'm surprised for all his talk, the detective didn't get in your way. Maybe characters could type their actions like a roleplay to convey movement, and we could have had chase scenes? I look at the fast texting like convention of the Simulacra world. I was getting into the evidence theft because it does what those text horror stories try to do, and it worked for me. We needed to SEE The Ripple Man and make the connection the TRM. Also the ending was pretty unsatisfying, maybe addressing some of the loose strings without trying to neatly tie them up? The influencer theme was a bit dumb, but they tried their best and the idea of erasing your imperfections was in Sara is Missing. Maybe playing from the detective's view makes things more interesting?

loved playing this game and watching your reactions as well! my thoughts on it... if one gets the bad ending, following what Det. Murilo's ordering because of his own ego, while also playing sort of judge and jury to allow the Simulacra to be executioner, the point being that focusing on the perception that these 3 influencers are awful and need to be punished rather than the bigger picture, that a way bigger threat is looming, then it's letting the Simulacra win. This Rippleman Simulacra loves egotistical flavored human beings, who are desperate for validation mostly through online personas. It seems to be mostly because it perceives that human influencers have the most influence over other humans, including guiding them to become the Simulacra's next meal. And since it is a creature that feasts upon this egotistical stuff, it too is pretty up there on the ego scale. It thinks it knows everything and has full control over human perception. I hope they make one more game and that it will be the last one. Just to clarify what the Simulacra is and where it came from. Whether ot be a prequel to it all or the end of the Simulacra, I think it could be good either way.

That's for making this video! I played the game and got the bad ending, so I wanted to see the good ending route but no way I was replaying the whole game. This game was okay, but I'm disappointed how much they've reduced the horror elements. Plus, we already know about Simulacra entities from the first game, so there's no big reveal which makes this one land with a bit of a thud. Based on Steam reviews, the third game really nosedives, so I'm probably done with the series unless I get the third game in a bundle or giveaway.
