I'm loving the idea of these things taking on the properties of the plants that are grown in them, it gives a lot of potential to tack on weird abilities and features depending on the environment they were constructed in. A chia golem made in the Feywild to guard a hag coven's lair could include some kind of illusory magic or a spore cloud that causes fear or hallucinations (which could replicate something like the phantasmal killer spell), or one made with foliage touched by the Shadowfell or a domain of dread might have decaying necrotic properties, and be accompanied by the raised corpses of those who tried to trespass in its territory before. Or even a community of nomadic desert druids could construct one with cactus seeds as a renewable water source, making them a roaming, magical reservoir.

Ridiculous, but so much potential! Opening up the whole world of botanical variety can make this golem go anywhere. Anyway, my first thought was a floating, jellyfish-shaped chia golem with blossoming vines as tentacles: an aerial pollenizer seems like an efficient way for a druid to keep up a wide swath of vegetation. Honestly, I tend to think of food when I think of chia seeds...so that poison curse is pretty freaky: sprouts growing out straight from your gut does not sound like a good time 😅 I love it! The idea of that disease turning someone into a plant is probably the most interesting part though...I could see that making for a really interesting plothook with a healing druid obsessed with "purifying" everything into a plant-like state. They could cleanse covens, lycanthropes, or even just regular people with this illness to keep everything in line with the natural order. Anyway, thanks as always, DD! Looking forward to the next one 🫡 P.S. It's great hearing Doxy narrate the outro again!

Honestly, this is pretty cool. I might have these Golems have a form of true intelligence, animalistic though it may be. After all, my view on Warforged is that they are crafted from Wood and Stone, Wood for the spark of life and Stone for the enchantability. Chia Golems would be similar, with some quirks due to being made from living matter and shaped clay instead of carved wood and stone. The "Artificer Lich" idea from that one "liches for every class" series really ties in to that idea as well (part of the reason I really like that idea), where the bodies are crafted but hold a living part inside.

I imagine either a story where a Druid used one of these golems to keep the last plant of their forrest alive and then look for a new place to restart. Either the plant can grow too big for the golem before they could replant it, so they had to make do. Or the golem is made in such a way so it’ll add earth to itself as the plant grow. While they still didn’t find a place either, the golem is now big enough to sustain its new forrest on its back. It wanders aimlessly around and grows bigger bit by bit, since the Druid who made it is long gone. It could also be a way for players to always have fresh vegetables and such on long adventures

A forest could have a grove of druids that have made hundreds of golem of all sizes throughout the woods. Small box turtle chia golems could surround an encampment without raising attention and with a combination of different seeds they could be put to sleep all in the encampment. Then the druids can go walk through the camp and murder hobo everyone. Since they are slow, I would make an Ankylosaur version as a walking tank. Some GM's allow items to be applied to the golems, a +5 spiked mace at the end of the tail would make that wicked. If you make on big enough. Have a fea circle on the golem. The fea and the golem would work together and defend the forest. Mobile strike team.

I just want to say thank you my man. Discovering your videos has leveled up my dmming game. Especially seen as some of these monsters my friend who has been playing years hasn't even heard of. I really wish you could have been there when I used the false hydra you designed against the party. This video had leveled up my story dungion immediately as this monster fits comfortably in there XD so thank you again XD

Mh, I can see a Chia Forest being the final weapon of druid enclave. I can immagine a low-mid level campain wich sees the players trying to convince the druids to help with their colossal chia golem to defeat the Terrasque that is rampaging in the nearby kingdom. Kaiju fights are alwais dope.

I have two ideas for potentially really nasty plants: 1. A magically enhanced version of dwarf mistletoe, dwarf mistletoe berries BURST when they gain enough water or are stimulated by outside force, launching their seeds at around 50mph. I imagine this could either be a close range AOE to use once it pulled a few people in or a reaction against being attacked within 5ft. 2. The Dynamite tree/sandbox tree, which has poisonous spikes and fruit that explodes hard enough to shoot it's seed at 160mph.

I was thinking about adding a fairly common plant to my setting that is one of the primary ingredients for standard 2d4+2 Health Potions, and I can imagine any alchemist or apothecary worth their salt having a few small chia golems wandering around their shop covered in these plants

Plothook! turns out most magical plants, especially the hypnotic ones, were all offshoots of the chia seed (or crossbread with the chia to have an insane growth factor not found in wild variants) after being experimented on by a crazed druid. He was also, by happenstance, the first one to create a chia golem. And it appears that his exposure to the more mind-altering chia variants led to him having a mental breakdown (or being brainwashed, scholars hotly debate it) and spending the rest of his life crafting these golems to spread his malicious plants far and wide!

This is good inspiration for something fun the Druid did in my CoS campaign. He obtained a Pot of Awakening and decided to plant a Wand of Alarm in it. It's only a couple days planted but this is a good jumping off point when it gets there.

Absolutely a chia golem with oak trees growing out of it. Once it gets old enough the chia golem becomes a dryad as well, making a moving dryad golem combo which has an immense amount of potential. Imagine a traveling enclave of chia oak golems! That could be so cool, like a moving fey-like forest. I hope someone finds this and gets cool ideas with/ for it!
@faceoctopus4571Ай бұрын
I was thinking it would be a regular dryad, but one that wasn't as bound to a fixed location as a regular dryad (on account of it's tree being much more movable)

My first thought was a golem with like 10 assassin vines on it But also, what if Zuggtmoy started using these golems to spread her spores and shrooms around? Like sending them into the material plane as some sort of walking demonic fungal infection, taking over forests and towns with fiendish fungi I also thought of a big one with trees

Esper the Bard created a demonic patch of mold for his Esper's Emporium of Esoterica book called the vicemold, which can cause a number of detrimental effects on its enemies, each effect based on one of the Seven Deadly Sins. I personally would LOVE to put one of those in a chia golem for added mobility.

If its not already on the no doubt massive list, I'd like to see the other Ravenloft Elemental variants like the blood elemental. I've looked for them EVERYWHERE, and found nothing besides the Pyre Elemental and that was massively over powered.
