Einstein who? It is clear who was the greatest genius of the 20th century. This extract features Neddie Seagoon, Minnie Bannister and Henry Crun, as remembered by Spike Milligan.

Oh my word I heard this while listening in the 60s sitting with my dear Mum. I was 5. I also remember giggling and wiggling so much. Perfect childhood moment.

The dotty antics of Minnie and Henry Bannister were always one of my favourite Goon Show acts. This insane humour was unique to the Goons, perfect for radio which in the post-war era was king. I'm so glad to have grown up with a weekly fix of Goons on the family wireless.

Anyone remember "There's someone taking their boots off in the tent upstairs..". I grew up with this stuff while at school.

the sheer lunacy of the conversation is brilliant.

This is wonderful. Only radio can really do this style of situation comedy: a mixture of sound effects, circular dialogue, and perfect timing to generate laughter. Apart from elsewhere in the Goon Show (like the brilliant "What time is it, Eccles?" sketch), another superb one - also coincidentally involving door knocking - is Tony Hancock's The Christmas Club where Tony and Sid argue at length about who should answer the knock on the door. :-)

From "The Histories of Pliny the Elder" episode: Caractacus Seagoon: Eccles, stand on my shoulders and pull me up. Eccles: Okay.... [grunts] I'd like to see them do that on television.

Bloodnok and Seagoon phoning the monster warehouse in The Junk Affair is as beautifully brilliant in its futility as this excerpt.

One of the funniest little cameos l ever heard was one where Minnie and Henry are in bed together. Minnie says 'Have you taken your male hormone pill Henry? to which he replies,' Yes,Min'...lt gives me the strength to go to sleep! Pure magic.
