One of the fourteen singles released by Peter Sellers, Harry Secombe and Spike Milligan a.k.a. 'The Goons'.
From December 1956.
On the radio, The Goon Show was going from strength to strength, with its plots taking on ever more surreal flights of fancy. This was perhaps reflected in the next single to feature Goon Show characters. In September 1956 Spike Milligan, along with occasional Goon Show script collaborator Eric Sykes recorded the single "You Gotta Go Oww!" (featuring the vocal talent of Count Jim Moriarty) and "My September Love" (featuring The Famous Eccles and Miss Freda Thing) for EMIs Parlophone imprint.
Released in December 1956, the record was perhaps too surreal to have the chart success enjoyed by The Goons recordings for Decca.
With the benefit of hindsight the single stands as a masterpiece of Milligans creativity, aided by the experimental production of George Martin. "You Gotta Go Oww!" was never the less subject to much promotion by Count Jim Moriarty in the episode "The Flea" where, after much "oww-ing", Moriarty comments "Another record sold"!
