When four authors, minimum, take their cut on the same story and are so impressed with their own doctrine and importance, do not give a hoot what anyone else has previously written - "Stand back! Be amazed! Here is what really happened, why I am so important, and why my version replaces the others as if they were never written before my own!"

So many interesting insights and I love learning about all of them. About the resurrection, totally neat how Mark is a lot more dull concerning it verses Matthew and Luke. However, while they're are differences, even stark differences in the details and content I fail to appreciate it as much as Dr. Tabor does, as well as mnay other Biblical authorities on the subject. The fact is, and the MOST important and impressive point is the resurrection and all the gospels have that main point about it. In other words, while I appreciate the "earthquake" and other details Matthew and Luke lay out, and maybe those "writers" thought they needed more astonishing details I don't know. Mark doesn't need them in my opinion, because "he has risen" I think that's the silver bullet. Mark says, "He has risen..." Matthew says, "for he has risen..." Luke says, "but is risen..."

That's just a matter of terminology, and I prefer to call it 4-source hypothesis. M and L shouldn't count because they're never hypothesized as existing as documents. Rather, M only ever exists as part of Matthew and L only ever exists as part of Luke.

James Tabor said Mark was sort of an anti-gospel. Maybe it was originally written as an antigospel ending at 15:39 and additions were made to make it a gospel (canonical Mark, secret Mark, and the long Marks).

Well, shit. I hadn't really delved too much into the whole "which gospel came first" thing. Frankly I never really cared. After watching this, I felt compelled to look because a few statements supporting Marcan priority didn't add up for me. Now, from what I can see, there's no reason whatsoever to be certain that Mark came first. It's possible, certainly not out of the question, but the certainty some people seem to throw behind it. I can't get onboard with that. The thing that really stands out to me is the colloquial nature of Mark. It reads exactly like someone relaying a complex topic to someone who was just hearing about it for the first time. Complete with unique little asides which might be of more relevance to the audience in question. It can clearly be read as someone who was familiar with something like Matt or Luke but who was less concerned with thoroughness and more concerned with being understood/conveying a particular message. What a religion. Lacks internal consistency. Contradicts the text that supposedly precedes it. Can't be certain your holy figure was ever a real dude in the first place. Can't even be sure what order your books about your holy dude were written in. I'm glad I'm an atheist. If I were still a believer, trying to figure out this stuff I'd staked my identity on would drive me nuts... which might explain a thing or two actually.
@TheMahayanist
@TheMahayanist 2 жыл бұрын
Very good reasons to think Mark came first. If Mark used Matthew and Luke, why did he not include all of the good stuff from Luke? Luke has probably the best stuff of any Gospel. Mark would just cut all that out? And Mark copies Matthew verbatim. If Mark copied Matthew verbatim, why cut stuff out? If you're plagiarizing something it's much easier to add stuff than cut stuff out because then you have to decide which stuff to keep and what to cut. I'm not a 'follow the consensus ' guy, but Markan priority easily makes the most sense of the evidence.

@@curbroadshow What do Samaritans believe in terms of the Bible? Samaritans believe that the Jewish Torah, and Judaism, have been corrupted by time and no longer serve the duties that God mandated to the Israelites on Mount Sinai. The holiest site for Samaritans in their faith is Mount Gerizim near Nablus, while Jews view the Temple Mount in Jerusalem as their most sacred location. The Samaritan religion: Their principal canonical text and main norm of religious observance is the Samaritan Pentateuch. The Samaritan Pentateuch contains the basic text of the first five books of the Hebrew Bible, yet there are about 6,000 differences between it and the masoretic Jewish version. Why did the Judahites not like the Samaritans? The Jews called them "half-breeds" and sent them home. The Samaritans built their own temple which the Jews considered pagan. The feud grew, and by the time of Christ, the Jews hated the Samaritans so much they crossed the Jordan river rather than travel through Samaria.

The frank and artless narratives of the Bible are so obviously indifferent to the appearance of consistency and show so clearly that irregularity, which is the sure mark of honest handwork in the Oriental rug, and of spontaneity in human testimony, that they have often lured opponents into attempts at destructive cross-examination which have only brought the Bible's truths and consistency into clearer light. Happy reading. "When we say…Jesus Christ…was produced without sexual union, and was crucified and died, and rose again, and ascended to heaven, ***we propound nothing new or different*** *from what you believe regarding those whom you call Sons of God. [In fact]…if anybody objects that [Jesus] was crucified, this is in* ***common*** *with the sons of Zeus (as you call them) who suffered, as previously listed [he listed Dionysus, Hercules, and Asclepius].* Since their fatal sufferings are all narrated as not similar but different, so his unique passion should not seem to be any worse." *Note how Justin (Martyr) is less of a fool than modern Christian apologists. He admits that differences don’t matter.* Since each and every one of the suffering and dying gods are slain by different means, one cannot argue the mytheme requires exactly the same means of death. “But Osiris can’t have inspired the Jesus myth because Osiris wasn’t nailed to a cross” is a stupid argument. The mytheme is simply death. Being killed. Suffering and dying. The exact mode of death can vary freely. It makes no difference to the existence and influence of the mytheme. It’s simply the particular instantiation of a generic abstraction. *And Justin’s argument (that Satan invented these fake religions to confuse people) entails Justin agreed the mytheme existed: indeed, it was demonically promulgated, multiple times. Intentionally.* *Likewise, Justin notices the mytheme is not virgin birth, but sexless conception. Of which many examples had already been popularized in pagan mythology (there just happens to also have been examples of actual virgin born gods as well). And by his argument (that the Devil was deliberately emulating the Jesus mytheme, in advance), Justin clearly accepted the same principle for “rising again” after death:* the particular exact metaphysics of the resurrection could, like the exact method of death or conception, vary freely. The mytheme consists solely of the abstraction: returning to life. Somehow. Some way. We will say bodily, at the very least. But what sort of body (the same one, a new one, a mortal one, an immortal one), didn’t matter. *If it had, Justin would have made the argument that “those gods” weren’t really resurrected. But that argument, never occurs to him. Nor did it to any other apologist of the first three centuries.* *Ancient Christians well knew there was nothing new about their dying-and-rising god. Not in respect to the mytheme.* Their claims were solely that his particular instantiation of it was better, and the only one that actually happened. *They didn’t make up the stupid modern arguments that dying-and-rising god myths didn’t exist or weren’t part of a common mytheme everyone knew about. For example, in the same century, Tertullian, in Prescription against Heretics 40, makes exactly the same argument as Justin. Funny that. They had better access to the evidence than we do. They knew what was really and widely the case. We should listen to them.* Google *"Dying-and-Rising Gods: It's Pagan, Guys. @@epicofgilgamesh9964 In the history of mankind, we find that the knowledge of the true God was largely corrupted by time and the idolatrous hearts of men. Nations were so given over to idolatrous beliefs and practices that God said of them: For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens (Psalm 96:5). The written word of God sets men straight concerning the true God and the true Messiah (see John 17:17). We can know the true Christ from the counterfeits based upon the word of God and prophetic verses about him (see Luke 24:25-27). Often, the words ‘it is written,’ or ‘that the scriptures might be fulfilled,’ are found in the Bible, pointing us back to the immovable, unchangeable scriptures that confirm the work of God in Jesus Christ, the only Savior of men. Without the resurrection, there is NO Christianity. There were witnesses to the sufferings of Christ and his resurrection. These witnesses, at the expense of their own comfort and safety and/or lives, spread the message of the gospel. The Bible’s message of men being reconciled to God through faith in Jesus Christ has gone out into the nations, just as the Bible predicted thousands of years ago (see 2 Corinthians 5:18-21, Luke 24:46-49). With the giving of the scriptures and the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the time for ignorance is past: And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent (Acts 17:30).

Its not that powerful with same type of truth was Imaginations is a common defense for and against each other, plenty of hidden examples where apply what creates friction to becoming real happening not seen first, did you even consider Luke 17:20And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: 21Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. Now basing your ability to deside what does the stories actually hint about the all being allegories about flesh and bloods you do need seen and heard is a challenge about your conscience impossible being easy to except, possible does laugh at you. None of stories had findable writers names you base on a provable seen and heard proof about your worlds seen and friend of science with only seeing fictions always seen after Imaginable doubt a strong weakness. Neville Goddard teachings gave me ability to call your bull sh_t same as most christians doubt looking out side is funny.

@@truthgiverandfinder3246 Clearly you don’t know what it is. It’s not saying there’s no God. It’s simply saying I’m not convinced. And that’s the problem. Theists continually have poor arguments. This becomes especially true when you start invoking the words of ancient and ignorant people based on miracle claims. That is when you really start to look foolish

Luke is more letft wing favouring the poor as opposed to the right winger Matthew who prefers poor in spirit. But Luke could've been wealthy, he was seemingly well educated.

The Gospel of Jesus was originally one book, written by Lazarus in consultation with the Apostles [John 21:24] and published soon after Jesus left them on their own. The religion was hijacked by Rome, the Gospel was broken up scrambled adulterated into a bunch of competing narratives. Later four of those adulterated gospels were canonized with falsely ascribed authorship and a Gnosticism cover-story. It was the finding of an original Gospel of Jesus scroll in Jerusalem that gained the Knights Templar power over the Church and their eventual undoing when the church finally retaliated against them Friday 13th.
