My whole backyard at our last house was smaller than my shop footprint now. Super blessed to be back on a little acreage

Probably a silly question, but do you plan to make anything from the tree?
@YouCanMakeThisToo Жыл бұрын
Just firewood. It grew too fast and wasn’t stable and had some rot already. Believe it or not that black oak was only 10 years old! Glad I went ahead and took it down before it was a big hazard in another 10 or so

That said I built a trellis from a standing dying cedar on our property. And there was a standing dead red oak I had milled and is drying to be an outdoor table for us. Love using timber from the property when I can.

To bad you couldn't relocate the tree!
@YouCanMakeThisToo Жыл бұрын
I’d love to be able to relocate trees that size. Also it didn’t make the video but it actually had some rot inside it and had grown way too fast.. so good thing I took it down now before it became a much more expensive hazard to remove in a few years.

how incredible is that...the government rule what u do, what u think, what can or cannot do in your OWN land...oh boy and many still sleeping...while we are stripped of all our rights...

To be clear I couldn’t absolutely proceed with permits. But then there ain’t an insurance company in the country that would let me add it to my policy, as there’s no verification that it won’t flood, burn down, or fall down.. and no way to check without pulling it apart. And I want to be insured. Same goes for if I ever sell the place. Inspectors can’t check what rebar is in a foundation, anchor bolt sizes, foundation thickness, or all the important stuff in walls that gets covered up. And I may sell the place someday. I can build whatever I want without permit and inspection. But then I may not be able to insure it (and I live in a tornado are). And no sane person would buy it, and I may want to sell it.

@@YouCanMakeThisToo once again they have us by the throat...pay for permits, pay for inspections...and so on..in regards to insurance remember that many insurance do not cover flooding, foundation issues, tornado and other nature related disasters...read your policy with a huge magnified glass...sadly u will find out that what they cover is very little and if, and I am saying "IF" they tell you that cover some specific disaster is time to take a magnifying glass an read every single line of the policy... insurances are not there to help us nor to protect us, they are there to collect and is that the bottom line for them...When Harvey hit here Houston, we though that the insurance would cover the damage on the roof, replace some items damaged by the water, and we knew that we had a pretty good coverage (yeah right)...so surprise...no ..."ups u are not cover for this, for this, and that...but we can give you 3K to put the roof back, but be aware that the premium will go up next year..." and the adjuster last words " we are here to help you, if you have more question please call us" we opted to pass on the 3K, and is then and there when we read the policy and yeah...exclusions galore and we discover that we were not cover for anything...just fire and that also have a couple of exclusions which in other words told us that we were not cover either...So we dump the insurance carriers, found on that is just to show for the bank, end up paying less and have peace of mind, knowing that we won't have to fight to get coverage if something happen...so we will figure out what to do when things happen.

@@YouCanMakeThisToo solution...hire a civil engineer or structural engineer that will inspect the work...it can be costly but at the end u will save a lot of money....he can give you a inspection report, you can take pictures and when u are ready to sell you can show what the engineer findings were and the pictures of how all were lay out...
@YouCanMakeThisToo Жыл бұрын
I’ve worked with a local engineer for stamped drawings on some of the stuff I’m doing that isn’t covered by code. All told I’m in less than $500 to the county to have permits and all the inspections I need, versus the $600 PER inspection local engineers require. Which if I want all that on file for a title search to find, I’d have to pull permits anyway. I don’t see why not just doing it the “right way” with the county in the first place isn’t the best way. My building department and inspectors have been incredibly helpful and friendly, great resources for making sure I do this right - and my taxes and permit fee already pay for their advice

@@YouCanMakeThisToo congratulations u are one of the few that have a positive experience with the power hungry bureaucratic government employees...so call yourself very very lucky...I am a firm believer that one must do the things right the first time or not do it at all, but at the same time i believe that the control of your rights by government entities is already gone too far...and freedom as few of us knew one time in the past, is not longer with us. Blessing to you and yours.
