In the comics the govenor had a more major kill count seeing as he managed to kill Lori, Judith, Tyrese, Hershel, Billy, Axel, Patricia, and etc.
@anunknownentity16373 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's where I think the show sort of messed up. I don't necessarily think that every character, like Patricia, needed to live until the destruction of the prison but I think they shouldn't have killed off so many characters in season 3. I think during the governors final attack in the show he should have killed Hershel, Axel, T-Dog, Milton, Jimmy/Billy and Merle.

(Spoilers ahead) If you want a better explanation of comic Governor, there are novels going over his backstory before he went batshit insane. It's really good, the first one at least called Rise of The Governor, I highly recommend it. Comic Governor, real name Brian Blake (he took his brother Phillip's name after his death), and really the book shows the downfall of a man, but also the ascension of someone else. It shows how the Governor originally lost his humanity and became a depraved lunatic. But, that being said, I do have to agree that the show's Governor is far more compelling. David Morrissey played him excellently and instead of the straight forward lunatic, they gave him those hints of humanity that suggested that perhaps he wasn't just the monster, that there was a man inside and he knew what he was doing was wrong, but he justified it to himself as what needed to be done. In the show, he's a broken man who's under the delusion that he's still the good guy, even though deep down we (and he) know that he's the depraved monster. Some of the series' best episodes were of The Governor, such as when he and Rick met or when we saw what he was up to while he was gone. I think what a lot of people miss about The Walking Dead is that its very much a character driven piece, much like such works as Lost or Breaking Bad as for TV shows. But people just call it a soap opera with guts and blood instead of sex and it enrages me to no end. Great video, and great look into this beautiful disaster of a character.

I LOVED the three episodes that humanize The Governor JUST before his final attack on the prison. Every time I rewatch it, watching him to kind things without ulterior motives, I almost feel truly sorry for him. Yet once he stands outside of the prison gate, I instantly despise him again. They really rounded him out as a human in the show, and humans are indeed more complex than simply being good or evil 24/7. Such a brilliant take on the character who seemed to fall short in the comics.
@LightninLewis2 жыл бұрын
Too me the last scene of Philip Blake was when he hugged Meghan "How about a hug before I go" he was telling the viewers and Meghan that who he is in this moment is going to be gone forever after he leaves for the prison...he closes his eyes as he hugs her. I think that he left Meghan and Lily behind so they could survive bc he never had any intention of coming back alive he never wanted the prison.

@akongaming93006 жыл бұрын
I can't really argue with the fact that Governor is a better character in the show, but I just don't like him as much as the sick and pathetic Governor in the comics. His comic's counterpart is one of the top villains that I can think of that causes so much hurt in damage in such a short amount of time. The brief time he exists is the most exciting and thrilling part of any walking dead media I've read or seen, and no villain in the series has really topped him in my opinion. Negan and Alpha are again probably better as actual developed characters, but there is something I just find very interesting about the Governor. He works more as just kind of a showing off of what happens when a weak, slightly crazy but over all normal person gets power, and just how it can all just go so wrong, and how pure chaotic evil in this type of environment will eventually destroy itself in the end.

The comics version also has a very sad backstory he loses his niece as he was trying to carry Penny to safety and his brother loses it after her death...after his death Brian believed that the only way he could survive is to become his brother. I was actually disappointed in the Governor's backstory in the comics. It was too quick and not much depth to his character, you will know in the Walking Dead issue called "Governor Special." He had a lot more depth in the tv version, but he was a better villain in the comics because he was more ruthless. The stuff he did in the comics had to be censored on tv, but this comes to show that the governor was truly the most ruthless villain in TWD.

I always figured he was keeping the citizens of his town safe, so his daughter if cured would have a place to grow up in. After she died the people didn’t matter anymore, all he wanted was revenge on the person who killed her. When the towns people failed, he just killed them. After he found his next group and got a new daughter, then the governors original purpose was reborn. That’s why he launched the second attack on the prison. If he had won, that would have become Woodberry2.0 with his new non-zombie daughter. And probably would have ended up being absorbed by Negans network of communities. Oh what could have been 😮

That show’s version of Fisk is probably my favorite tv show villain ever.
@mr.rogues41456 жыл бұрын
You should like random videos, considering you dislike the old forgotten villains stuff ;) I dunno about Kingpin - that would be a tough video to make. There are so many different comic book appearances with him, and many I haven't even read, so it'd be kinda hard to compare the TV version to anything. I agree though that he's great on the show, hell he's the best part of the show ;) Jigsaw from the Punisher show seems likelier, considering he hasnt really apperaed that much in the comics, and is generaly portrayed as a moron and coward. He's without a doubt better on the show.

@@mr.rogues4145 I don't dislike your forgotten villains videos, I just enjoy all of your other videos more. If doing Kingpin is too hard for you, how about Bullseye? @goblintributemaker25396 жыл бұрын
@@mr.rogues4145 Yeah that was the worst part about it, that Dex never got to truly become Bullseye. I mean even Billy Russo is gonna get to be Jigsaw at least (although it's weird how his face looks almost perfectly normal after what Frank did to him). There was so much potential stuff they could do with him in the fourth season. They already had a plan for it and everything. All the more reason you should talk about him at some point!

To me, this video perfectly showcases the problems I have with Robert Kirkman's writing style. See, he's good at coming up with ideas for characters and plots. It's in the execution of them (no pun intended) where he often messes up. I ran into this problem a lot when reading his Invincible series. For example: The Mauler Twins. A mad scientist and his clone who can't decide whose the original. An interesting idea for villains. Then they're unceremoniously killed off for shock value and then it's revealed neither are the original Mauler, completely ruining their entire premise. The only reason The Walking Dead is as popular as is it is because the adaptations of it take the opportunities that Kirkman misses.

The show Governor is 10x better than the comic version, but they did tame him quite a bit. They still kept him as a psychopath which is good but they could’ve actually have him do the torture stuff instead of only implying he could. It would have been crazy to see him chop Glenn’s hand off in the end just bc he was in a bad mood after Michonne’s drama. They could’ve had it that instead of recruiting Tyreese’s group he tortures them instead after finding out they just came from the prison. Allen and Ben die as a result but Tyreese is a tank and he doesn’t die yet. That would’ve been cool. The final battle was great but not enough deaths from Rick’s side, they indirectly died which doesn’t count. The deaths that should’ve been: Herschel, Beth (spare us of the Hospital arc), Oscar the prisoner, and Milton. The rest are just background characters who were from Woodbury. Those are kinda the only things I would have liked to see, besides removing his love story with Andrea.

I never read the book but as a viewer of the AMC series I think its pretty obvious Negan is a reboot of this character. I prefer this guy to Negan bec Negan was the same guy turned up to 11 who was a dictator douchbag coward how the comic Gov is….

I left a comment on here talking about the video, but it did not appear. I tried leaving it again but install don't see. Two comments and they did not show up. Do you see them, because I do not.

I bought a Governor action figure at GameStop back in 2015 or so and I stopped watching the show by than because I got bored with it I thought if I bought the figure maybe it would be a collectors item ten or twenty years down the road but Hell who knows it a cool figure.
