I was at old Trafford for the game against Leeds. When schmeichel missed that cross to allow Chapman to score I thought we’ve bought a dodgy keeper here. How little did I know!!

Less than a second after kick off and Tyldelsey gets in his Man United plug.

This was one weekend that season where the domestic fixture list did not favour ITV when Manchester United v Leeds and the Merseyside Derby both sitters for live ITV coverage at that time were played in late August as ITV did not show any live domestic league games until October/November ITV had took the decision not to show live games until the Autumn/Winter period when they tended to get the big viewing figures a decision which in the end was one of the reasons that ITV lost the Premier League to SKY and given the title battle between Leeds and Manchester United Manchester United v Leeds could have been postponed until a time in the season where ITV were showing the live games

From what you say, ITV got complacent, and Murdoch pounced.

In fairness live games weren't always welcomed by the clubs. Attendances were still a worry back in those days before the boom and sky handing over wads of cash for broadcast rights.
