The knowledge that Soseki Natsume is a real person is very funny to me. No disrespect to him because he is quite an impressive author, but when he showed up in the third case I thought he was just a nice reference for any Japanese students or fans of his works but the fact that he is basically a recurring character at this point??? Like if I was watching a little caricature of Jules Verne or somebody run around London with “Herlock Sholmes”, that would be incredibly surreal. Not to mention that I’m pretty sure Mr. Natsume he still has living relatives like “Hey kids, that’s supposed to be your great-grandfather doing the Mr.Crocker poses and getting repeatedly arrested as a murder suspect”
