When Jim said Dr Scales must be a Dr of weight loss... I thought her name relating to her profession would be unlikely... but then Dr Scales turned out to be a Marine biologist!

I am a huge fan of Jim and this show, and also my daughter is a PHD in Marine Biology/botany and her main focus is saving the coral reefs! She grew up surfing and diving in Hawaii, and now wants to go to Australia or New Zealand, because she wants to work with a more international community of scientists, because she says too many Americans bring the same stuff to the table- she likes the diversity of culture applied within the sciences! I LOVE HER!

348,700 km² (133,000 sq mi), 900 islands, 2,900 individual reefs, can be seen from outer space, the world's biggest single structure made by living organisms, composed of and built by billions of tiny organisms called coral polyps, awesome!

And yet the people of queensland couldnt care less about the reef. Every election they vote to ignore the greenhouse. Their sugar industry pours chemicals and nutrients out into the reef. They also have major coal mines and a dependence on the coal industry as does our prime minister scott morrison.

I have scuba dived on the reef. That fish that swam with Forrest, I think is a moari wrass. When I was there the instructer took some food down for it. It swam between us, loved a scratch on the side of it`s head. Reminded me of a dog, so cool.

it takes a good half hour boat ride to get out to the Great Barrier Reef (my sea sickness cant handle that!)... just go to Western Australia instead, where you can walk out in ankle-deep water into the Ningaloo Reef, and feed wild dolphins in ankle-deep water every day at Monkey Mia

Hanna barbera cartoons were created in sydney we had a thriving cartoon industry. Going back to felix the cat we were at the start. And the first major feature film was filmed in australia in 1904? It was a film about our most famous bushranger ned kelly.

It's adorable. The mascot characters are somehow not creepy like the Disney ones. Yogi and Snaglepuss are especially cute. Would hug. The George Jetson one would not hug. But it comes off as funny rather than creepy. Looks like it closed. Well at least now I don't have to offer to babysit as an excuse to go.

"The Great Barrier Reef". Kind of demeaning to the other reefs. Who want's to say, "On vacation I dove the less than mediocre barrier reef (because I couldn't afford the great one!)". With my luck I'd buy a house on the beach and be all stoked that I finally made it, and then I'd find out my house is in front of "The Complete Shite Barrier Reef". :)

Love Jim, and even met him once at an after party when he gigged Bali...but the enormity of his lack of knowledge about the reef is astounding. 🤣 In its present form, it's only 8-10,000 years old. Just like the Great Lakes, these ecosystems came into existence BECAUSE of global warming...namely the end of the last ice age. After 20 years of working in the commercial fishing industry in Queensland, I can say with truthfulness that the threats to the reef are GREATLY exaggerated in order to convince uninformed folks to be anxious about its long term prospects.
