Well I find that Nick was in love with Gatsby and maybe he was even gay or at least bisexual. But seeing as he wasnt really charmed by Daisy or Jordan I think he was gay. And Gatsby was his love.

You have no idea what Fitzgerald was about or meant. The Great Gatsby is one of the finest novels ever written. Gatsby is not about a psychologically or physically thwarted person. It is about a lost soul. It is about the sinews of humans clawing for a world they never had, nor are ever meant to be. It is an epic poem about death.

@@itzterx2339 Literally that life moves on. Gatsby died and Nick could not move on like the others up to the point hat he is in a mental hospital. This quote is him realizing that life always prevails over the dead.
@sleepingdogpro
@sleepingdogpro 3 жыл бұрын
@@troymcneal7371 Not quite. More like: Gatsby had an American dream, which is that he could work hard and get somewhere. It's a dream he never gave up on, even when it went wrong in every possible way, even when his roots pulled him back down, even when it killed him. "So we beat on, boats against the current" means all Americans are perpetually fighting for better even as the current pushes against us, even as the past defines us, still we hope. Even as the American dream exceeds our grasp, that just means we fight harder and reach farther. It's incredibly poignant and as real now as a hundred years ago; it's one of the most classic passages in American literature for a reason.
@keygiver1816
@keygiver1816 Жыл бұрын
@@itzterx2339, for me the green light symbolizes the Source (and the Universal principles that is made of/us). To understand that green symbolism you can study alchemy and watch the movie Green Knight (2021) that connects the same idea through the form of the Nature Spirit. One of those Universal principles is Love which is again one of the main (visible to the audience) topics of the movies. Thus it is easier for the viewers to understand what and why Gatsby eagerly wanted to show Daisy the 'green light' (the real love). There is a scene in the movie where that did not happen and if you know that symbolism, you would have foreseen the tragic end. The anti-clockwise dancing of Daisy is another hint. You will see this motive in Green Knight and other movies. Ponder on the meaning of it. :) When you extrapolate the beautiful keys that Fitzgerald (un)consciously gave here (beyond the American Dream and the description of his own biographical experience), you would see the reasons for the never ending samsara (the rebirth cycle) - the attachments to the past and the inability to connect with 'your' Source and be the embodiment of the Universals will make the cycle look like a cunning trap and/or endless suffering/losing... :)

The fact that Gatsby’s last word was “Daisy” as he tried reaching for the green light. It’s truly very sad that he loved someone so much that he’d do anything for her. She used him and stabbed him in the back and just spat on his grave by not attending his funeral and just leaving with the man who doesn’t care about her. She really is a beautiful fool who is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

It's not only directly from Fitzgerald's book, it's actually a line dreamed up by his writer wife Zelda who is equally amazing with words. You guys should read both F Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald's novels - all of the great writing from this film is a constant in their work.

@@sleepingdogpro I was going to type it, but you already typed it. Love them both so much, but Zelda needs so much more applauding - same with Jessie Chambers, whose book about DH Lawrence easily rivals his novels, and in many ways of emotional intelligence, surpasses them - same is true of Zelda's writing; these were really writing partnerships... still I find myself working to remember that. Hopefully now, it sticks. 💙

We just were meant to just love the idea of love from afar ....

I hated the film for the most part, but I have to say I absolutely loved the ending. It was the only part, for me, that felt like it truly captured the spirit of the book. A hopeful message delivered with mournful despair. Brilliant.

Reminds me a lot of second part of Arvo Pärt's "Tabula Rasa". If you liked "Gatsby Believed In the Green Light" you will probably like "Tabula Rasa":)

He is the personification of the American Dream. The American Dream is dead, this was the reality that many people ran into during the roaring 20's, my friend. They realized, no matter how much they had, no matter how much wealth was acquired, it does not bring happiness. Happiness comes from within. It is here and now that we feel, not in the present or in the future. Only we can make ourselves happy. Gatsby was the happiest chasing his dream, rather then when he actually had it in reach.

"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter-tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther…. And one fine morning- So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."

I was looking for that one for a long time too! I think all the Craig Armstrong scores were uploaded very recently, so it's not your fault. :)
