Glad you enjoyed book two. The series keeps getting better as it goes along. RJ was really good at writing from a characters perspective. This book gave more perspectives and later books expand the world and characters more. Glad you decided to continue and hope you grow to love the books.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed book 2! Jordan was definitely growing as an author as he was writing the series, so it makes sense. I agree completely, book two was a significant improvement. I suspect especially the beginning of the series shows that it was published in an era when the audience still expected the usual Lord of the Rings plot beats. And for the most part the first book is really just that (down to the secret kingship); the second book is at least more original. I also remember that the ending was very confusing... or maybe not confusing, more like under-described. You are probably right in what you said in your first review, this is probably true for other moments, too. Now it's more than two years since I've read the second book and somehow never continued. Actually, I picked up the third book just last week. I started to read summaries online to refresh my memory, but frankly, that too was kind of confusing. I think I'll have to re-read the second one. I won't go through the first one again, though! It's refreshing to have a channel that focuses on good reviews, rather than name-dropping floods of books.

I also agree that it’s probably hard to skip book one. The first season of the tv show mostly follows book one but so much was left out and changed in season one it probably isn’t enough detail watch it and skip book one. Season one also has parts of book two and three. Season two is mostly book two and some of book three. Season three is going to be mostly book four it sounds like?

I don't think I am a particularly fast reader, but I try to read when I have downtime or right before I go to sleep. I also set a goal for how many pages I want to read during the day and try to keep to that.

Another series where the first book is weak is The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. The second book is so much better that it feels written by another author. I don't think Robert Jordan wanted to finish this ever. It was his eternal paycheck.

The way Jordan wrote the second book so fast, I can believe that.
