The same thing with Zomato. I own restaurants that are listed on Zomato and earlier they used to have a SPOC or an account manager who's an actual human to respond to and redress issues. Now it's just some preset FAQs and chatbots that to a pretty fuckal job.

From 1989 to 2020, I was layoff 3 times. Each time I get a better offer after layoff. During this period South East Asia, countries (Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippine and Malaysia) had layoff millions when the MNC move to other country. This layoff is a norma. It is a biz.

Alot of us adapted too in that timeframe. @Redheat Redheat: "can think of something they can all do together with those skillsets." Prayer is their best choice. Read my comment above. I'm a business school Grad with a 3.4 GPA (1986). And have been studying world economies since 1986. The best "new skill" you're talking about will be cutting expenses and saving money. Note: after graduating from bus school, I worked as a financial planner for 20 years. Here's what I found. We would add up all the expenses and income of our clients. And? A huge disparity was the result. Almost 30% of what our clients earned could not be accounted for. That's called "discretionary income". Money spent on stuff you don't really need to live on. And the spending is driven by long term habits over the years. Ever hear "spending rises to meet income?' Little by little we keep spending more and more as our income rises on stuff like $4.50 for Starbucks every day and other items we don't really need. Once that habit becomes ingrained, we think that we CAN'T do without it. Until we have to make cuts by force of less income. "all come together"??? How are you going to get that done? The best you can do is educate yourselves on where you're wasting your money. And create wise spending habits. Are you ready to do it? My guess you will look for ways not to change long-term habits before you do.

During the development of software, a lot of tech professionals would be required. Once software is developed & automated, you only need extremely few tech professionals. Now with intervention of AI, most companies will reduce extremely the % of human workforce. In the long term, IT team itself created this chaos, that’s now affecting all industries. Companies don’t consider that their employees will also be their customers. Atleast lets work together to stop AI being introduced in companies. Prevention is better always better than cure!

@prabhakar - I believe you have not full understood how AI can become powerful. For example, recently AI developed images of 2 famous political leaders hanging out, together. A common person would think they are in a relationship or the international visit was for strategic partnership & fun time, when actually nothing ever happened etc. Nokia built mobile phones for sole communication purpose, but as technology advanced we have smartphones like Apple & Android that supports most of our necessities from shopping, banking, travel etc. Eventually, travel agencies shutdown, supermarkets & banks reduced staff etc. It's about a matter of time, humans will realise that AI & Automation was a mistake. With these technology progress have we made our lives happier or more challenging to survive? Recession has become a common word now. Let's not become fools to technologies that destroy our relationships, EQ & IQ.

Such industries are like that... It's your choice. The benefits are that you have a good chance of getting in if qualified enough, you can get promoted if you perform well usually, money is decent. Compared to this old traditional companies don't create as many jobs, employees are not growing "fast". But they can retire in the same company. Company doesn't grow fast but doesn't fall as fast. Hence career is also like that. So it's like Sprint versus Marathon. Your choice. I choose a slow career growth but able to work till 60 versus fast growth and early retirement. My jobs is relatively less unpredictable and so is the stress. I can manage stress here.
