Good on you, Sir! I have always had MG Midgets, but just recently got my first MGB. Love your content.

that gray and burgundy looks fantastic! i never cared for the five spoked mags on the B. the wires are an excellent choice, IMO. :) i am a TD guy these days, although my first car, and the one i'm most familiar with, was the MGA, but after viewing your video you've succeeded in beginning to make me a 'B'eliever!

Great video, I am also at the paint colour stage with my MGB. Was going to be Snowberry white then the same grey and burgundy interior but now looking at Bentley peacock blue - couple of pics online one with a v8 and green triplex glass looks great.

My father owned an MGTC in peacock blue. God it was beautiful

That swiss cheese patch on rear parcel shelf is from a plate that is on from factory. I had to rebuild the fresh air vent shelf in the heat box area. I can email you some pics. Also have a look at Katoomba grey or nurburg white, is slightly dirty white. Its what mine was from factory.

Hi Steve, enjoying the series and look forward to more and seeing this come along; subbed. I Have a 1970 GT over here in the UK and I get the colour dilema. Mine is in an original colour of Bronze yellow. Although I don't actually like yellow that much, it just looks really good on that shape and style of car. For me, that grey is just too modern looking for one of these. Always kind of liked the Blackberry they did and also the Iris blue (although that works better on the MGA imho). Out of your shortlist, I'd have to vote for the red though.

I actually agree the gray looks a little too modern. But nice

Remember if the splines on the wire wheel axel hubs were worn, it means that the splines on the wire wheels are also worn. If you mate the worn wire wheel splines on the new hubs, you will find that the worn splines on the wire wheels will rapidly wear out the new splines on the hubs. What I am saying is you should have purchased new wire wheels. These will have new splines to mate with the new splines on the hubs. I have owned my 1973 MGB for thirty two years and have refurbished just about everything on the car. You are doing every thing correctly but using the old wheels may come back to bite you!

How did you clean up the wheels? I have a 66 that I am restoring and I can't get the rust sufficiently dissolved to be able to tighten the spokes without breaking them. I have tried soaking in vinegar, which is supposed to do wonders, but no such luck for me.

You say you sourced lower control arms that are fractionally longer to accommodate modern tires, oops! meant to say tyres. Where did you get them? Thanks

got mine from MGSales.com.au - good source for MG parts. Most of their parts come from MOSS in the Uk.

It's not a tragedy that you won't paint the car British racing green, it's a tragedy that you don't like it. I love my British racing green MGB. Definitely go with a gray with a red interior, it looks very cool. Frankly I wish I could have a red interior but can you imagine British racing green with a red interior?

I don't actually dislike BRG - some very nice ones - I just don't want one :)

For that colour combination, look up the Rover 200 BRM, mad but it actually can work. Not sure about it on a 'B' but I quite like those despite my better judgement.

shouldn't chrome complete wire wheels as it embrittles the spokes and the spokes are designed to move relative to the hub and rim, so called Chrome wire wheels actually have polished stainless steel spokes the hubs are often stainless too
@stevegnome2 жыл бұрын
yes - that's why I ended up powder coating them. It is much more forgiving than trying to chrome them and relatively easy.

Choose an original colour many MG owners and enthisiasts, me included, would never consider buying one that was not in a factory colour

It's pretty close to the original Grampian Gray - although technically that was the GT only. Personally Im not too fussed on the whole originality thing as long as it isn't out of character. I think the gray with the red interior will look very smart.
