I'm Italian and I can say Joey is right. In nothern Italy the most popular pizza type is called "pizza in teglia", giganteous, thicc, with double cheese and at least five different toppings over. Then there's the Roman pizza "alla pala", long, crunchy, with more bread than sauce, served in pieces, with a lot of toppings . The Neapolitan one with thin dough and large "cornicione" and so on. Where do you eat pizza in Italy makes a big difference in taste and experience (and we have domino's pizza in some cities). You can prefer American or other countries' pizzas, but you cannot compare pizzas made in pizzeria to pizzas made in fast foods like little caesar's. The difference in quality of the ingredients, cooking, and added chemicals for flavour is too much.

You can't really say your standard bowl of white rice is the same as Chinese egg fried rice, Puertorican guisao/mamposteao, Spanish paella, the way Mexico confections their rice to put it with their dishes, etc. These boys need to taste more rice dishes, cause that statement is just outright incorrect.

Strongly agree. Garnt opinion is so on spot. I mean, bread is not just "pour water in and cook", at least it need yeast or sugar, etc. If they want to compare, a straight up bread without any of that, just pure "baked from flour and water", is much more equivalent. You misunderstand. They were saying diffently prepared white rice tastes almost the same, shit like adding vinegar and adding other stuff isn't preparing something differently it's adding diffent ingredients. Meanwhile slight differences in how the exact same piece bread of bread was prepared can taste pretty different. Hell the altitude of where you cook it and temperature at which you cook it can change how it tastes. Rice and bread aren't nearly on the same level, and that was the point of the argument.

Even without preparation there is a huge difference in white rice.. Govindo Bhog tastes different from Basmati which tastes different from Sona Masoori which tastes different from Arborio. You can't use Basmati rice for say a Sambar based meal (or you could but the taste is absolutely different). Similarly, you would use Basmati rice for a Biryani, but Sona Masoori is a bad idea. You won't use either of the above generally for Risottos although I guess you can try it with Sona Masoori.
@srikrishnabhat67933 жыл бұрын
@@MatthewCJoy I would disagree because bakeries are a Europe specific thing (not that we don't have it in Asia, but origins are from Europe and the middle east). Also, I think the comparison should be between grains, i.e., rice and wheat. Differently prepared white rice definitely don't taste the same. You can also have bread equivalents made from Rice involving the fermentation process. Take Dosa and Idli for example.

Even things like Hawaiian pizza (with pineapple and ham), I can enjoy because I like trying different things. However I personally see italian styled pizza to be a more refined dish. Not to discredit American pizza, it's good, it also has it's culture and it's heritage in American history, but I see it more as a party food then something I would sit down and order at a restaurant. They're two different vibes. Edit: Time to get italian smartass here, it's kinda dumb to say Italian style pizza is "stone" pizza and American is oven pizza, because both are made in ovens. You don't put the pizza on a hot stone and just leave it on a counter. Also there's a huge varity between different types of pizzas in Italy. My issue with Garnt's defense of "stonebaked pizza" is that stonebaked is merely the technique used to cook it whereas Connor's defense about American pizza is delving more into the toppings and structure. They're essentially having two different arguments. You can take a napolitan (as garnt should be calling it) pizza and cook it in a pizza hut oven, and it will be kind of shit pizza. But you can also take an american pizza hut pizza and stonebake it, and it will only elevate it and make it better. So yeah, connor is definitely in the right. Italian pizza sucks mainly because of the toppings. They usually just toss the toppings and put like clumps of cheese, leaving you with entire gaps with nothing but tomato. At least american pizza shreds the cheese and distributes it evenly, same with toppings. Maybe Italian pizza uses fresher ingredients, but i prefer the better structure and distribution of american stuff.
@rangered_642 жыл бұрын
I think it's mainly because Italians don't wish for their pizzas to be heavy, which is why its thin and their toppings aren't as much as American pizzas, similar to reason to their dough. And I do believe that the ingredients for Italian pizzas are fresh besides the dough. For me personally, if I wish to have a big buss, I'll eat an NY pizza. If I wish to eat something light alongside having a heavy meal, Italian style.

That's true - also Connor made a valid point about price. If you can get a good meal (in their opinion) for 5$ or you can get meal of similar taste for 20$ then due to psychology you are going to kinda degrade the more expensive food for not being worth its price and will put the cheaper option on the pedestal. Cause sometimes even if the food is good the price makes it feel less enjoyable and makes you feel kind of guilty, so in the process you project the guilt onto the meal in form of lower rating.
@Giacuzz3 жыл бұрын
@@Saito57G Well an important point is that the price is often based on the quality of ingredients. The baker said: Croissant Auntie replied with another question: With? Baker: Nothing, its just plain old Croissant. The auntie just walked away. After that day, the German baker did not have any business at all for the longest time. However, only after he started adding stuff on it such as Tuna and whatnot to his Croissant, only he begun having business. So I would say this is very much a cultural difference thing. To the most of us, eating an entire meal with nothing but bread is very much just eating a whole loaf of store bought bread as a full meal, and that is equivalent to having only plain rice as a meal. Well this was a story I heard like 10 years ago, and I would say in general, we are already begun to love just having a good bread by itself. As an American who's visited Italy. I feel American and Italian pizza are two different food groups. Like I couldn't compare the 2. A great American pizza(imo) is greasy, cheesy, has a nice thick crust, and is stacked with topping. You can feel your arteries clog. A great Italian pizza(imo) is thin, crunchy, literally just sauce, cheese, and seasonings. It revitalizes you for the day. I finish American pizza and want to pass out on the couch. I finish Italian pizza and want to walk around the town for 8hrs. Completely different experiences and which I prefer 100% depends on how I want the rest of my day to go.

On the same note, I despise 90% of "authentic Italian" pizza joints in the US. Cause they try to straddle the line between US and Italy then fail both. American pizza: it's much more forward with its flavour and texture. The dough is more crispy. The cheese is low-moisture and caramelized in the oven. Sauce has sugar, oil, tomato paste, garlic and oregano. Liberal with it's toppings. Italian Pizza (Neapolitan): Focused more on high quality, simple ingredients in harmony. Soft, airy crust slight char from the woodfire oven. Simple tomato sauce with fresh San Marzanos and salt. Fresh buffalo mozzarella that retains its creaminess and strong Parmigiano or Pecorino. Fresh aromatic basil and delicious extra-virgin olive oil

There's a price to performance ratio in regards to food. The cheaper something is compared to the quality, the more satisfied I am personally. @@pivad1388 Popularity equates what people want though and that's what matters here. People want American pizza WAAAAY more than Italian pizza. Garnt seemed shock by Connor's opinion but Connor is absolutely right, most people will take an American pizza over an Italian pizza. It's not even close to a 50/50. The simplest way to see the difference is... I can go to an Italian restaurant to get an Italian pizza, but there's like 15 pizza places (from Dominos to independant commerces) that make American pizzas within the few dozens of blocks around my house. It's day and night how popular American pizza is relative to Italian pizza. Also, I did say ''kinda''. There's other factors (American food being more ''worldwide'' for example) but the gap is so big between Italian and American pizzas, you can hardly argue against it rationally.
@riccardobuso53793 жыл бұрын
@@dzello i’m not sure i’d agree: i can confidently say that an amazing steak is a better meal than an hamburger (despite both being meat) while the latter is far more popular, this could be taste wise or simply due to cost. Italian pizza has it’s selling point in the quality of ingredients and the specific taste of them, which doesn’t travel well through countries. Concentrating more on the toppings you can make a pizza which travels far better between countries than one which relies on region specific ingredients (Habits do make a difference in this, being used to eat something definitely changes your perception of other food)
