The casualty figures in this era are so terrible. My town only has 4,520 people in it. An inconclusive battle at Cassno would kill every in my town twice. And this battle is a footnote.

Renz0 I completely agree with you on that but I also feel that the Jacobite rebellion of 1715 is also so unspoken of because there was a possibility that Marlborough was going to join the Jacobites but the Jacobite rebellions are very interesting I would say because the French supported the jacobites and like the French accepted the Protestant succession in Britain as it was part of the terms that ended the war of Spanish succession and you see as a result the jacobites were banished from France and this Jacobite rebellion would set the stage for the Jacobite Rising of 1719, the last Jacobite rebellion the 45 or as its much better known as the Jacobite Rising of 1745, the Battle of Culloden and the end of Jacobitism as a significant political force.

Incorrect. Sicily was given to Piedmont and then ceded to austria in exchange for Sardinia. The kingdom of Sardinia Piedmont was formed and it put the bases for the future formation of italy. Vittorio Amedeo became the first king of his family. This was very important to mention. Piedmont was so important in the victory of the war that it gained the recognition to be considered a kingdom and gained many territories.

I do live in Torino, and my house is in Madonna Di Campagna, very close to the L7cento Castle and near the area where, allegedly, Vittorio Amedeo crossed the Stura creek (no one knows for sure the exact location). Currently only a tiny slice of the city walls and the entrance of the once mighty Citadel are still in existance, but a large portiin of the underground countermine warfare tunnels from the siege era are still intact and currently visitable, including the very spot where the Pietro Micca Episode happened. I've been helding guided tours of such tunnels as a certified volunteer, and it is kinda impressive to recount those facts in the very place where it happened. Just a little Clarification: The Pietro Micca Episode is just was just one, among many other similar instances occurred during the siege: mine warfare was an essential part of besieging operations. The peculiariry of Turin was that the Piedmontese, had already dug an underground tunnel network to counter a potential besieger. Those works had begun at least a century before the siege, and had been expanded and upgraded. By the time the French attacked, the city had something like 13km of tunnels, all around the main fortifications, running from the city wall out to the countryside, with Explosive chambers in strategic locations. So they were able to deal great damage the French besieger, insofar as they progressively advanced their batteries, they often happened to place it righ over one of such chambers. On the other hand, Having dug the tunnels, the Piedmontese knew the area very well and were able to locate the batteries and the nearest explosive chamber. Learning this, the French tried to dig their own tunnels in order to intercept the Piedmontese ones, not to infiltrate in to the city, as commonly said, but to place their own charges and attempt to destroy the tunnels. Consequently, when a French sapper party found and penetrated one of such tunnels, they were met by Piedmontese patrols and vicious combat ensued. Those were quick, because after a few shots, the tunnel would be clogged in smoke and both parties would flee the area for a while. On the other hand such combats could last for days, as the French came back to try and force the passage, while the Piedmontese struggled ro repel them and plug the gap. On one of such occasions, a piedmontese patrol was surprised by a French squad - not a company - which penetrated the first part of a tunnel. Pietro Micca, set a charge to blew the involved tunnel section, but given the emergency he cut the fuse too short, so tried to escape but did't make it.

@@FieldMarshalYT I see you've used a book from the Century of the Soldier series. Been wanting to try them, but was hesitant due to the price and not knowing what to expect (I wouldn't want something along the lines of Osprey). Do you see them as worth the price? Are they heavy on pics, maps etc or quality info?

This was the best portrayal of a battle in your videos so far. The footage of troop movements from games doesn't do your videos any good imo. A well-drawn map of the terrain with clearly defined features and troops makes everything easier to follow.

The interspersed footage of gameplay makes the videos better in my opinion. It helps you appreciate the scale and the troop formations, it’s also pretty cool to see the uniforms and weapons. Often just looking at arrows on a map doesn’t show the soldiers perspective
