The two days we spent exploring remote portions of The Great Wall were some of the most awe-inspiring, challenging and beautiful days of our 21 days in China! We started day one on the Jiankou portion of the wall and then to the Huanghuacheng that night. We hiked in the dark and set up a tent to camp on the wall, waking up the next morning to gorgeous songs of bugs and wind passing through the mist the next morning. After packing up the camp site, we hiked the Huanghuacheng section for the rest of the day. I highly recommend visiting these gorgeous pieces of the wall and experiencing history far from tourists. It's truly unforgettable.
The guide we hired is from www.greatwall-... not sponsored Do not attempt to do this hike without a guide!

I just cant imagine how the workers had to climb the mountain and brought all the bricks up there to built the great wall...how the warriors had to go up there real fast when enemies came to attack...just unimaginable....salut to the ancient chinese

?? That's not how the Great Wall works. The Great Wall is essentially an e-mail service from 200 BC. There are only a few locations that an invasion could access Northern China. If an invasion was detected, the nearest pyre would be lit. Then, the soldier at the 2nd pyre would light his pyre, letting the soldier at the 3rd pyre light his pyre, then the 4th, etc. This system of pyres being lit would very quickly travel to the capital in Western China, allowing the central government to mobilize forces weeks earlier than possible.
@alvintheng8501
@alvintheng8501 4 жыл бұрын
jyashin I can said what jyashin describe is absolutely correct! And in additional, the tower is the barricade for the watchmen tower. After the pyre is lit, the soldier will barricade themselves, basically fending themselves till reinforcement arrive from the nearest responsed barrack. You can see from the video, when Claire enter the tower from the stair, from outer portion of the tower, she need to bend down to enter, and the entry only allow single soldier/person at a time. The tactic was simple, enemy spotted, if they attempt to breach, soldier barricade themselves, fight off them from the high section of the wall, if wall breach, attempt to retreat to higher section of the wall, fight again, if breach, retreat to tower, barrride, and defend, slaughter whoever came through the entry. The soldier will have supply stored in the tower which normally will last them for months, till help arrive. Like Attila, Alan or goths, the northern invader are compromise of marauding horde, they attack, pillage, enslave, rob whatever they can, then they will ride back across the gobi dessert. The walls function are to stop these incursion.

Thanks Claire for a wonderful video. I am 66 years old and have been to China once, passing through on my way back from the Philippines. I have always wanted to visit the Great Wall for several reasons. It represents China in a time when they probably were the Superior Nation on the entire planet. While they dined on dainties prepared throughout an organized empire, unwashed Europeans ate with their hands. Julius Caesar enjoyed wearing a crimson silk tunic, and many of the garments of later Popes were filled with silk. China represents Intellect, culture, power, harmony, and fear of change. Today people still marvel at the wall built on the backs of countless peasants, soldiers, and prisoners who had no real appreciation for it. They only endured the daily grind. And the last word is the best. The Chinese have endured the unfolding of hundreds of centuries with great patience. I don't think them war like, as much as I think of them minding their principalities. They are most huge in population, but so peaceful in person. I suppose rather than fear them, we should study them and understand mankind over time in a single place always being. The views are superb and I really enjoyed the video. I hope many things wonderful come for you and your life friend. Peace and love, and being a Christian... peace and love in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!!

From this we can imagine the majesty of the Beijing City Wall, 20 meters -30 meters high, gear-like structure, there are 4-5 layers of archery buildings on the city walls. In ancient Beijing, it was not like resisting the human army, as if used to resist (The Lord of the Rings) monsters. Unfortunately, the Communist Party was demolished

My family and I had the pleasure to visiting China about ten years ago and one of our most unique ventures while there was going to the Great Wall of China and walk some of the passage ways. Your video brought back many memories about how much of the wall has broken down into pieces making not an easy hike through some of the area. Even then it was amazing to see and realize that here we were walking along some of the passage ways on the Great Wall of China. To see in person is so amazing that there no way any photos or videos can show all there is to see. To even try and conceive how it was even possible to build something as this. To see the wall going through the mountain ways up and down the hills and at times some appearing to be going into the clouds way up high as if it was a passage way into Heaven. It really is one of the most unique wonders of the world! Thanks for sharing your video.

In my first semester at college, I went for a hike from Jiankou to Mutianyu with 3 friends. We spent about half a day to finish. That experience was my closet to death. We had a large portion of the path with only a width of two bricks to set foot on. You have bushes on one side and the cliff on the other. I also remember a point you have to hold an iron bar to swing your body over the cliff. We completely stopped talking in the last few hours as a result of fatigue, fear, and stress. We run out of water and food, but we finally made it to the Mutianyu.

One of the greatest things of the great wall is you will never find something like the great wall anywhere else in the world. just unimaginable....salute to the ancient Chinese...The great wall represents ancient and modern Chinese. That is a country with over 5000 years of history. There are a lot of things the rest of the world can learn from it.

I thought the so-called "wild great wall" was forbidden to visit. As more and more exposure of the site happening on the Internet and better and better roads leading to the site, I am sure more and more people would be attracted to it. Imagine what trouble the local government would have if there had been fatalities on the wall. If climbing that segment of the wall is not already illegal, I think it will soon be.

I did a hike from Jiankou to the Mutianyu section of the wall a couple years ago. This really takes me back to one of the worst and also best hikes of my life. Worst, because I thought I was going to die on atleast 6 occasions. The heavenly stairs were one of those times. We spent about 28 hours on the wall with a 6 hour sleep session in between. Can't wait to go back and experience a different section of it

Belated welcome to my hometown Beijing! I stumbled upon your channel and I'm still loving it after an hour of binge-watching. I was thinking that the quality of your videos deserve at least a million more viewers and should get some attention from the Tourism Bureau of Beijing, Zhangjiajie, Huashan, Guilin etc to use for their marketing, right until the peeing off the Great Wall part. That was hilarious though I had tea coming out of my nose laughing. Thanks for these amazing videos and hope to see more.
