In fairness, avoiding caffeine during the first 90 minutes of waking up was a massive improvement for me. Allowing your body to process all the sleep chemicals before adding caffeine which blocks the receptors and thus preventing the sleeping agents from being processed. Stops me feeling tired in the afternoon. Matt Walker who is the king of sleep, has an excellent explanation in his book about how it works. I'd recommend trying it to anybody. I just wait until I get to work before having a brew, rather than having one with breakfast, pretty minor change. Other than that minor point which is definitely a preference, great video!

For me as well. Also, this is only anecdotal, but I notice a huge difference if I start my day with a maté first, and then follow that up with a mid-morning coffee. Feels like a softer, more gradual ramp into the day, rather than going 0-60 real fast with coffee first.

glycine has been a huge one for me combined with a ZMA supplement. crazy dreams that are usually fun and it makes 6 hours of sleep feel like what 8 hours of sleep got me before taking them and makes 8 hours feel like 10 hours
@frequency_sequencer Жыл бұрын
i love glycine
@ClarkPotter Жыл бұрын
I've tried about everything, and ZMA is one of the few things that I can tell makes a difference. I'm happy it costs half as much as 20 years ago. The dreams come from the B6 they add to it. The Mg improves sleep and the Zn improves recovery from the gym. Other things I can tell make enough of a difference to warrant the price are: 1) Protein (only 2/3 your bodyweight (lbs) in gms of protein/day, anyone claiming more is needed is a purveyor of broscience) 2) Creatine 3) Quality Greens (as one's multivitamin) 4) Rhodiola (cheap, and decreases perceived exertion for endurance activities or especially burn-y type exercises like crunches) 5) Glutamine (cheap, theoretically more protein should cover this but just supplementing it by itself I can tell I feel less sore from the gym, solid research backing it up for other benefits, too) 6) Kratom (not necessarily recommended because it's a bit habit-forming and I imagine interferes with one's neuromuscular interface, but I love it for hot yoga to get deeper into poses and be able to push harder, it also makes the gym less painful but the pain doesn't really bother me to begin with, as you just get used to it and crave it, but kratom is something to try and has definite benefits, Idk about using it with dangerous exercises bc you might want to be more in touch neuromuscularly for those) 7) Keto Diet (effortless weight loss and you feel life-changingly better with energy, mental clarity, well-being, and all while never experiencing hunger, which is just low blood sugar and not needing food anyway) 8) Water-fasting (I've done countless 10-day fasts, 2x14-day, and 1 21-day water-only fast, and water fasting is *the best* thing I know of for your body besides eating perfectly and exercising vigorously, Instant insane fat loss, mental reset, palate reset, extreme equanimity, new lease on life, feel 10 years younger in 10 days of not eating anything, 5 years younger-looking skin-wise, clean intestines improving nutrient uptake, feel significantly better for months, minor muscle loss if you exercise moderately, go at least 10 days for real benefit, it's not a big deal, you'll see if you try it, even 21 days was no big deal at all) 9) Hot Yoga (fixes all your imbalances, improves muscle quality, hits muscles you're missing at the gym, which are PLENTIFUL, improves coordination, balance, fascia, mind-muscle connection, etc., it's awesome and harder than lifting except for squats and deadlifts and crossfit, etc.) 10) Swimming (whole body workout/cardio, low impact, feel fantastic afterward) 11) Like he says in the video, I discovered mouth-taping 15 years ago independently, and use it with nose strips for sleep, that was until I got surgery for my sinus/tonsilectomy/septoplasty so I don't need to anymore, and now my sleep is great, except for residual inflammation from gluten intolerance (I have one haplotype for Celiac's). If I remove gluten/dairy/sugar my sleep becomes perfect and my inflammation drops to as close to nothing as I can tell just subjectively 12) SARMS ofc if you want to go down that path, I worked out for 5 years before trying them and admit they're nice, but give yourself 4 years of doing everything perfect workout and diet-wise before messing with them 13) Moving to whole body lifting workouts only 3x/wk instead of 5-6x/wk. Started growing faster and started hitting new PRs even in my 40's after doing this. Nowhere near as sore all the time and more effective for muscle growth. I do hot yoga 2x/wk and swim or run 2x/wk and generally life gets in the way for me to hit 7x/wk and so take some random day off 1x/wk anyway. If you're skeptical, try this routine for 4 months with keto+IF and I'll give you $50 if your body doesn't look, function, and feel significantly better from it. Ofc you have to come prove to me that you're lean, good at yoga and swimming for me to pay you ;) This is just what I can think of atm. I'm sure I'm missing a couple things. There are some honorable mentions like Ashwagandha and Maca, which could just as easily be on the list as well I suppose.

Amazingly informative videos! You have earned my subcription and every other with no shadow of a doubt! Have taken up workout and a healthier lifestyle since this year. Mostly healthier eating since February and hitting the gym since July. Since then I have 19 visits to the gym behind me and I am seeing a huuuge difference. And as you said a good night´s sleep is so bloody important and makes a huge difference. Beginning of the year my kilogram weight was at the 120s, ranging between a flat 120 to 128. Today I weigh 101, with more and more fat leaving and being replaced by muscle. I will also try to have my coffee (I only drink a single morning cup since I suffer from sleep problems) at least 90 minutes after waking up... I usually wake up at 5 in the morning for work and used to hit the bunk at 22:00. Ever since going to sleep at 21:00 I already noticed such a big difference it isn´t even funny. Amazing work and keep it up!

As someone with 2 young children I can not emphasize enough how important a consistant good nights sleep really is. I've I have found having prolonged disturbed sleep drastically affects both mine and my partner's mood, energy levels (inside & outside of the gym), recover times and i'd even say personality to a degree. If I was to put in order the 3 top things to focus on to improve your health it would go: 1. Sleep 2. Diet 3. Exercise. Obviously optimizing all 3 would is ideal but I think far too little emphasis is put into sleep and in fact it's the most important factor. Often people focus on this in the exact opposite order, sorting their exercise/activity first, then diet and maybe sleep after down the line.
