It seems there is kind of "a myth of the geniality of old anime". While there are some really lost gems somewhere to be found, most of those 60s-70s anime won't pass the test of time and are plain bad shows. I haven't watched this judo one, but I feel it would be the case with this one too.

Me and my mates binged Kurenai Sanshiro in the past three days. It truly is the best anime from the 60s. Every episode had at least one moment that had us in awe. The use of mixed-media in the first episode is especially amazing. I love that they sometimes use foil textures to make blades look more realistic. Our ten favourite episodes were: 1, 2, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 18, 22 and 25. I'm so sad there's not more. No OVA, no movie, no anniversary reboot, nothing. Sanshiro wasn't even in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Maybe because could solo everyone.

Much of the reason we only hear about the same titles over and over in online discussion is that the algorithm and online platforms promote and encourage content on already well known subject matter, so it's so much harder to build a platform in a niche by taking about older shows (an even nicher niche). So I applaud your efforts to highlight lesser known shows, these should be classics (if you wanna put it like that). And I hope you're channel grows more since this series and your other videos are really damn good That last one especially sounds like a concept people nowadays would love, especially those who ignore dating sims or harems because they expect a typical bland self insert protagonist. All these shows sound pretty cool.

This classic anime discussion has been a thing way before "the algoritim", anime didn't start at 2010. Lost gems from 1970's were forgoten or never came to be known by major audiences for others reasons. The main one being they have never been as much broadcasted worldwide as other tv shows (speedracer, gatchaman, doraemon and whatever). This makes the titles eventually lose traction with time. But for anime watchers from the 70s, those are probably titles they know. In case of modern anime, they might became lost gem for being too experimental for the major audience IMO

11:50 Reminds me of To Heart, a late 90s light romcom which was actually adapted from an H game! But with all the H elements removed, and turned into a totally wholesome slice-of-life with a bit of a 'magic realism' flair. Strange adaptational choice, but it's a very cozy little show.

Most eroge aren't that focused on the sexy stuff. It's usually like 1% of the runtime and very tame, on the level of an R rated movie. There are of course outliers, but I'm talking the narratively driven stuff.

I reread mangas, I read Kurumada's first ones and it's impressive how he created a lot of the Battle Shounen that Hokuto and Dragon Ball sing so much about, in fact the guy created the genre of sports with powers. Just going in depth to get huge information.

Wow, Judo Boy looks just perfect. Looks like a perfect Tarantino anime, it's possible he watched it as he's a huge Speed Racer fan. I have an interesting story about Manga Sekai Mukashi Banashi. I completely by accident stumbled upon the heavily edited English dub of the Alice in Wonderland, and immediately I noticed how much everything looked and felt like the original Pokemon series (one of my faves). I assumed probably the director Kunihiko Yuyama was the same, or at least one of the episode directors. But I looked it up and...no...it was TAKESHI SHUDO, the head writer for the first 2 seasons(also known for Time Etranger and Momo), who was far more influential on the style of Pokemon anyway. So yeah, I pinpointed his writing style from the overall direction from a 2 minute clip of an english dub of an anthology series with different writers and directors each episode that came out 20 years prior to Pokemon.

Early judo was the form a early jujitsu also they do have some strikes in traditional Japanese judo.

Miyazaki has been in the anime industry since 1963, ya dum dum. Miyazaki carried forward the tradition of Toei films from the 1960s, which saw themselves as competing with Disney. It's a different tradition, but it's all anime.
